The Mango Cottage
(Separate structure from our main house, "The Mango House".)

As you arrive at our well lit 3-car driveway (with the only video camera on the premises) you will open the gate to our winding, tropical garden walkway (evenings are lit by a vintage peace sign) with patches of sunshine beaming through the stately old mango trees. (We have 5 mango trees on the property.) The cottage entry has a patio area with 2 lounge chairs and a table for 4 shaded under an umbrella, overlooking a lush, green back yard, lone mango tree and yellow flowering tree (almost) always in bloom. At night, our 4' hanging star and a canopy of tiny lights will brighten your Florida evening.

Once you enter The Mango Cottage, you are immediately impressed with its vaulted ceilings, invigorating "whisper quiet" air conditioning, sparkling window views and fresh Floridian decor, featuring some of the artwork from watercolorist, photographer and property owner, John Coté.

The bedroom has an incredibly comfortable king size bed with (4 king pillows) soft linens, a seating area and large walk-in closet. There is also a large wooden luggage bench suitable for 2 carry-ons. NOTE: Feel free to move luggage bench into walk-in closet, if you prefer.

Make sure you utilize the Bluetooth (HOMEWERKS JC011) for your music pleasure, accessed in the bathroom! Music icon must be selected in bathroom light pad. Your selections can easily be enjoyed throughout cottage.

In the living area, there is a "Florida orange" chair near some of John's watercolors across from the roomy Bahamian-style futon (with a queen firm mattress, also with soft linens), overlooking John's newest panoramic photograph, "6 Storms" from Flamingo, Florida, at the cottage entry! Part of any conversation, will be relaxing at the modern bar-height dining table for 4, along side of the lit bar with its wine glasses for 4 and tropical beverage napkins. Perfect to watch a movie or concert in this, your cozy Mango Cottage!

The Mango Cottage includes WIFI, 2 tv's, a full kitchen with large and deep stainless steel sink with a mini 16" mini-dishwasher and tropical fine dinnerware. The view from the kitchen sink window and bedroom window is the lush green, impressive mango tree and an almost year-round, over 10' Yellow Elder flowering bush + a blossoming tree with lovely fragrance. The large mango tree offers a hammock (at your request). By the way, we offer our very own Mango Pureé from this seasons bountiful Mango crop, so you can create your own tropical smoothie (blender under cabinet by refrigerator). We would be happy to deliver the frozen packets upon your request while still available.

In addition, The Mango Cottage offers 2 beach chairs (stored by gate hose station), a sand umbrella with shoulder strap for easy carrying (stored on the hooks in the utility room), beach towels and huge beach tote to use during your stay. At the inside of the cottage gate and walkway, there is a hose for your personal use to wash off sand from feet, chairs, etc...

For our Canadian travelers, we have a cribbage board and cards.
John's fun-loving mother and family, showed him very young how to play and more importantly, how to WIN!
We have had travelers from Vancouver, British Columbia, Calgary, Alberta and Magog, Quebec so far...

There is also a spacious laundry room inside The Mango Cottage with Samsung washer and dryer. Fans in every room.

The Mango Cottage property is right on the quaint Kester Park, where a pavilion is available (for rent with the city or random availability) alongside the sand volley ball court, 2 manicured, newly constructed, state-of-the-art youth baseball fields and adjoining playground, in our "Pet Friendly" neighborhood where you will meet many who walk their dogs.

The Mango Cottage welcomes dogs! We have kennels (lg/small) available (upon request) but definitely required for non-housebroken furry friends. We also have a large fenced in backyard that will bring joy to your dog[s] as they romp around. However, we do require that your dogs be supervised at all times while outside. For as the old adage says, "Where there's a will, there's a way!"
Note: A 2 minute drive to Canine Corner Dog Park requires a Current Rabies "actual" certificate (not just a tag!), application and fee.
See Pompano Beach city website for information.

Be on the lookout for sightings of our neighborhood wildlife:
• fox (He walks down NE 9th Avenue in the wee hours and ends up at the sand volley ball courts. Look for the bushy tail!)
• hawks (& osprey)
• owls (several species) Note: We have a family of Great Horned Owls living just across our home (as of April 2024)!
• red-headed woodpeckers
• Brazilian green parrots
• white egrets
• land tortoises
• iguanas & cuban night anoles
• squirrels
• opossums
• raccoons
• Song birds in abundance, like cardinals, doves, mockingbirds, bluejays, and Baltimore Orioles.

ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE:
There is a 5 mile bike and jog/walk trail (just 4 blocks away) that winds around the Greg Norman Signature Pines Golf & Driving Range.

You can't miss where the locals congregate, at the expansive Galuppi's Restaurant & bar, located right on the golf course. Showcasing its new outdoor stage with front seating lounge and water views (Can be reserved for show). And then there is their outside (massive tv) and inside table cloth dining. Catering for weddings and special events available upon consultation.
Holidays and weekends they book very talented local bands and artists!
NOTE: On St. Patrick's Day they have a bagpiper!

A special treat, is the home of the iconic Good Year Blimp Base. Yes, every pro or college game or event, anywhere in South Florida, has the Good Year Blimp flying overhead!
If you're lucky, catch the blimp take off or land!
The Blimp flight pattern usually flies directly over The Mango Cottage - quite a sight!

This trail also offers the Pompano Beach Air Park.
Feel like taking off in your private jet or plane for a week of South Florida fun? Well, come stay at The Mango Cottage, just 2 minutes away!

In addition, we are 2 minutes from many athletic amenities:
• Aquatic Center & Community Pool
• Pompano Beach Tennis Center with 16 lighted clay courts
• 16 Pickle Ball lighted courts
• LA Fitness

SHORT DRIVE OR WALK:
Just a 3 minute drive east on Atlantic Boulevard will take you to family owned Gianni's - Italian dining at its finest.

Then continuing east of US 1 towards the Intra-coastal bridge, will bring you to Flanigan's, known for its ribs and fresh Mai Mai (dolphin, not porpoises). You can't miss the life-size saltwater fish mounts of every specie found in our tropical waters! Even my lifetime fisherman, husband John had been stumped "once" in naming a fish. Quite impressive, as is their large saltwater aquarium.

Directly across the street, there's famed Owner Darrel Broek's and Chef Oliver Saucy's 5-Star restaurant Café Maxx and his American creations.
Café Maxx now offers Cooking Classes!

As well as, our hometown favorite, Phil's Heavenly Pizza with breezy outside dining.

Crossing the bridge, just keep heading towards the newly designed Pompano Beach and Pier, where you will enjoy walking the beach with many restaurants to choose from.

So whether you stay at The Mango Cottage for a relaxing get-away or for a non-stop excitement of South Florida's many attractions, one thing will be sure, The Mango Cottage will offer exactly what you need - A spacious sanctuary of Pompano Beach tranquility and comfort, amidst a tropical paradise!

All year long, come feel a warm South Florida WELCOME at The Mango Cottage!

From late spring (April/May) to early July we will offer you a daily supply of our delicious crop of Mangos (3 Haydens, Kent and Springfel trees)!
Enjoy at your heart's content!
During mango season John provides a canopy of nets to catch our harvest and to protect The Mango Cottage walkway.

During the Summer, Come feel a refreshingly cool WELCOME in The Mango Cottage!
Our 5 huge mango tree canopy and fauna, plus the sea breeze and ESPECIALLY OUR OWN icy, incredibly flavorful, ORGANIC MANGO PUREE (while our supplies last) for your own SMOOTHIES that will make your stay here truly feel and "taste" like a tropical dream...no matter the season!

Excellent VRBO
We loved this place, decorated beautifully, and equipped with more than we needed. We like the area, as it offers biking opportunities as well as beach activity. We were offered tickets to the South Florida symphony, which was outstanding! High probability we will be using this VRBO again, as we have many grandchildren in the area.

Old Pompano Beach
The place was exactly as advertised. John and Michelle were there for the check in. During the stay, they were very helpful making suggestions and answering questions but otherwise we did not see them. The location worked well for us and we would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Thanks again!

About the host

Hosted by John & Michelle Coté

Host profile image
John was born in Maine and raised in Bedford, New Hampshire, where he became a young expert fisherman in all the many brooks and streams. That is until at the age of 12, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, where he was profoundly astonished on the size of the saltwater fish he was catching off the Sunrise & Las Olas Bridges, beaches, Hutchinson Island and Biscayne Bay. Sea trout 9 1/2 lbs, bonefish 10 lbs, snook 26 lbs, tarpon 120 lbs and numerous bass off Alligator Alley in the Everglades. Needless to say, through the years we have had many a fish feast for our family of 6. John's also a graphic designer, fine artist, professional photographer specializing in panoramics, writer and lifelong, competitive softball player.
Miss Michelle is a true native and weathered Hurricanes Betsy and Cleo from the '60s and all that followed, but is still amused to think of her father's memory of surviving the worst hurricane he ever experienced in 1938, not in Florida, but in the valley of SW New Hampshire where there were cows in the trees, ... "which made it easy to milk them" (John's humor)! So she was raised, not fearing the hurricanes, with her calming and meticulous mother from Wisconsin taking care of all the preparations and her father securing all the windows, property and keeping the tone more like an adventure that would unfold! But instead, watching the display of our Creator God's awesome power! Then after the storm, appreciating the spectacular sun appearing, the glistening green grass and the colorful flowers rejoicing! Yes, we do live in a tropical paradise! John insisted that I mention that I homeschooled 4 children (10 year age span) for 15 years - So, I guess you could say I was a pretty good manager.
God is good!

Why they chose this property

Not only does our property have the best view of Kester Park, but this house has been selling mangos from our 5 trees, right from our doorstep, for over 70 years! Our many faithful customers come as far as South Miami and WPB, plus we have shipped to California, Texas, Illinois, New England and all over the South! During mango season (May-July), John "The Mango Man" will strategically place many net canopies to harvest fresh mangos over the walkway to the cottage! Feel free to grab mangos to eat or make smoothies.

What makes this property unique

We live in the Old Pompano neighborhood. Many unique homes both large and small. There still remains many 1930's quaint "Kester Cottages" in our neighborhood. Our home is known as "The Mango House" since customers have been coming right here to our front porch "mango stand" for over 70 years, to get their personal picks of our famed mangos from May-July!
We are honored that you have chosen us for your South Florida destination! While you are here, John will be displaying some of his watercolor paintings and original photography in The Mango Cottage.
By the way, there is no home owners associations to worry about. We are a licensed and approved Florida short term vacation rental property.
