Lovely family retreat
We enjoyed a week escape to this property before Christmas. The neighbourhood is quiet with all amenities close by. A car is essential and in the winter months we believe snow chains are too.
The property is well equipped and as a sanity of 12, it met all of our needs.
The village of Les Houches is lovely. Has a supermarket, museum, bars, outdoor shops, hairdresser and a pizza takeaway(which is awesome!). There’s a ski lift at the bottom of the village and one about 3/4 min drive at le Prarion. Ski was good for early season. Chamonix isn’t far away and never fails to disappoint with its lovely streets and spectacular views up to the Aguile Du Midi. We went skiing at La Flégère which is a great site with spectacular views of Mont Blanc.
We were 7adults and a child and stayed here for hiking in the sureounding area for a week during summer. The chalet is beautiful and cosy, and had everything we needed. There was plenty of space for everyone. The chalet is quirky, but suited us just fine. There are 4 bedrooms in the basement, which are a bit more private and sound proof than the rooms on the first floor. None of the rooms close fully, and the chalet itself doesnt lock properly(or at least we couldnt figure out how to) but that didn’t bother us. The 3 bedrooms rooms upstairs are not completely closed off, so if you’re a light sleeper, this might be a problem. The chalet is lovely though, and lots of outdoor space for BBQs, the hot tub is a bonus after a hard day’s walking, even in the summer, and it is a 10 minute walk down a steep slope to a good grocery store. The chalet is great for groups, and we would visit again.
Thanks for the lovely revue Priti. The chalet was originally designed as a family home and we have tried in the most part to keep that relaxed feel to it. However, we have had a few comments about the bedroom doors not fully closing - they push shut and have thick rope handles in keeping with the chalet. So we have now brought a load of authentic 'gate' style lever latches, which will allow the doors to be closed more securely.
The chalet has three external doors and one of the door handles and locking mechanism got broken by a previous guest and we have booked a lock smith to come and repair / replace it. Unfortunately things do get broken during holidays, but we respond as quickly as we can. The chalet is situated in a very quiet, safe area and we never lock it when we stay there with our family, but we fully understand some guests do prefer to lock it.

Fantastic, relaxing holiday in this beautiful chalet that has a unique character and atmosphere.
Another great holiday for us in this magical 'tree house' chalet! The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and the living room had lots of comfy sofas for reading, relaxing and playing games - we had many fun evenings in there! We had plenty of hot water and we love the new shower room Steve. Thank you to Valentin, nothing was too much trouble for him. The kids loved playing in the garden and hot tub and made a cool den in the woods! The scenery is magnificent and there is so much to do in the Chamonix Valley and surrounding area. We will definitely see you again next year!
1 hour from Geneva, 20 mins from St Gervais Railway Station and 5 mins drive from Chamonix, Les Houches is the first ski resort that you come to as you enter the Chamonix Valley. It is in a spectacular mountain setting dominated by Mont Blanc, which at 4805m is the highest mountain in Europe.
Other Activities: rock climbing, ice climbing
Ski: Les Houches and Chamonix Valley
