About this property

Loghouse Lodge with Glacier View and Private Natural Swimming Pond

If you want privacy, serenity, a private natural swimming pond, and an awe-inspiring view of a glacier, then you will feel right at home at this log house in the picturesque Squamish River valley. The Squamish River valley is off the beaten path between Vancouver and Whistler, with approx. one hour to Vancouver and 45 minutes to Whistler. The valley is a broad, sunny oasis of lush cottonwood and alders in the flat valley bottom surrounded by steep slopes covered by ancient cedar, hemlock and fir. The mountains precipitously rise over 8000 feet to culminate in snow and ice-clad peaks of the Tantalus Range.

The cabin is nestled on a high terrace on five private tree covered acres. Depending on the season you arrive at the log house you will encounter a plethora of colorful ornamental trees, flowering magnolias, roses, lavenders, Japanese maples in beautiful oranges and reds, Persian perogias, beeches and many other tree species. The large surround deck has a new railing (2026) and new deck furniture on which one can relax and enjoy the view

In 2013 we built a natural swimming pond and regeneration pond. This technology that has been developed in Europe uses natural filtration in which water is circulated through a volcanic filter substrate and then pumped back into the swimming pond via a 2 m high waterfall. Both ponds are surrounded by some 200 water plants which provide further water quality improvements. There are no chemicals in the water and it thus feels like swimming in a mountain lake. It will naturally have organics on the bottom of the pond and will be home to dragonflies, and salamanders.

The log house has 3 bedrooms total, an upstairs loft and two bedrooms downstairs with 1.5 bathrooms. Unlike many log homes, this one has been designed to let a maximum of light filter into the cozy wood interior with 4 skylights, large picture windows and oversized tilt and turn windows in all four directions.

The cabin is child-friendly though children will have to be supervised when playing outside because of bears (black bears), and cougars (never seen one but they're there), plus there are large boulders that have about a two story drop.

As of March 2013 there is a 12 m x 5 m unheated natural swimming pool (no chemicals). A small play cabin is located in front of the house for 1-5 year olds. The tree house in the images has been converted into a Bee House and houses our bee hives. The treehouse has become unsafe, and the bees needed a warm and dry place to live. The smaller playhouse is still available for small kids to play in.

Besides simply relaxing you have the entire spectrum outdoor activities at your feet. You can hike to a beautiful waterfall, some 8 km up valley, swim in Alice Lake while gazing at the Mount Garibaldi volcano. A 20 minute drive will bring you to the Squamish Chief, Canada's foremost rock climbing Mecca, or you can kite surf in Howe Sound known for its never ending winds. You can ride your mountain bike on the vast trail system that Squamish has to offer from beginner to extreme. A 40 minute drive will bring you to Callaghan valley, the cross-country and biathlon centre for Whistler. Another 10 minutes will bring you to the foot of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, where you can enjoy skiing from November until June. If you prefer canoeing, you can start right in Pillchuck Creek which borders the property and paddle a romantic creek to the broad meandering Squamish River that winds its way through untouched wilderness towards the ocean. Or go wild water rafting or kayaking on the wild Ashlu and Elaho Rivers. For anglers, the Squamish and Mamquam Rivers are famous for their salmon runs, with hundreds of bald eagles amassing in the fall to get their share of the protein.

A fifteen minute drive will get you to Brackendale where you can buy groceries or enjoy a hearty meal in a restaurant.

There are two security cameras on the property one that overlooks the driveway and one on the upper balcony that oversees the pond area. The resolution is poor, one cannot identify individuals but can see if any wild or domestic animals jump or fall into the pond.

Very clean and spacious. A little more remote than we were planning. Get your groceries while in town- too far out to be going back and forth!

The house was well equipped with cooking tools, spices, etc. Monica, our host, went above and beyond to ensure we were warm (due to insurance reasons we could not use the wood stove which was very unfortunate) and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay.

Rustic cabin in a beautiful location. The natural swimming pond was a lovely place to cool off on a hot day. Childen (10 and 8) loved the variety of toys to play with and barely missed the fact there was no TV. Property owners were responsive and helpful whenever we had any questions.

A beautiful getaway

Monica, our host, was so lovely and communicative. She was always responsive and organized. The house is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The beds are comfortable and all towels etc were plentiful and in good shape. The property is very beautiful and serene- it is clear that many things that were once used and loved are no longer in working order but we didn't mind- it is a special place anyway. The swimming pond was very unique and we loved our little swims. The trees and foliage on the property are truly beautiful. Check in was clear and easy and the wifi was adequate for general needs.

Fantastic stay off the beaten path

We had such an amazing stay at Monica’s cabin! My husband, mother and two young boys, ages 4 and 1 1/2 stayed for the week. The cabin was clearly used to having children with so many fabulous toys and games tucked away to discover. Our 4 year old had a blast hiking through the woods around the cabin, picking huckleberries and swimming in the pond. We enjoyed the views and remote location. Monica was amazing at communicating beforehand and went above and beyond to make sure our stay went well.

beautiful, cozy cabin

Beautifully maintained cabin. It is clearly a well loved family cabin with very thoughtful design. Kids enjoyed splashing their feet in the pond and the well-stocked toy chest. Adults enjoyed the views, comfy lounging furniture, and nice kitchen with really high quality cookware and basics like spices, tea, oil, etc. May was definitely shoulder season (too cold and rainy to swim, but it's fire season so a burn ban prevented us from using the sauna) but we would love to come back in summer and enjoy more of what the property and region have to offer!

The cabin itself is comfortable but sadly the listing is a disappointment. The pictures are very outdated. The place is very over grown, the railing and deck are failing, the pool is full of some sort of black growth, and the view of the Glacier was taken about ten years ago. The house is solar powered which is not mentioned in the description but means very basic electrical access. One needs to lock and unlock a gate to get in and this property is about 30 minutes beyond Squamish. We felt it was not worth the high price.

Response from VrboOwner on 8 September 2025
Hello Betsy and Dan, In relation to your review, I'll address your concerns for the information of future guests. I will update photos as the vegetation has grown since the photos were taken. The foliage canopy over the drive is intentional. The deck railing is handmade and has sentimental value therefore I'm maintaining it rather than replacing it. The deck is definitely not failing, It's simply not varnished, we like the look of cedar when it ages to a natural silver. The pond is not a sterile swimming pool, it will always have some organic sediment at the bottom, particularly in the summer months, in the winter months the water is crystal clear. The entire pond liner is made of black rubber. The house is not solar powered, the electricity comes from BC Hydro as does everyone's, our solar panels feed back into the grid. Electricity is not limited whatsoever. The gate is to stop just anyone from driving in, I don't think any guest would enjoy strangers driving in during their vacation because they wanted to "see where this road went" which is exactly what happens. The approximate address is on the listing, this should not be a surprise, even within the listing it says 15 mins to Brackendale and 20 mins to Squamish. Most people who book the log house are looking to get away with their families and spend some time together. That is what the cabin is designed for. I understand the images didn't match your expectations and I will be updating the photos as soon as possible.

Cozy accommodations with spectacular views

We were two semi-retired couples visiting the Squamish/Whistler area for the first time. We found the Loghouse Lodge to be a great base of operations. The house itself is very cute and cozy for 4 adults. We cooked there every morning and most nights. There were a variety of spices and condiments already available which was a nice touch. My husband and I stayed in the loft and had a beautiful view to wake up to each morning. (Pictured.) It is a beautiful area and there are a lot of great walking trails and sights. As city people having no tv was shocking at first (LOL) but, when we weren't out exploring, we entertained ourselves listening to music and telling stories. (The Wifi allows for internet access and streaming music but we couldn't really load videos.) We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you Monica opening up your home!

Together with my wife and daughter we live in Vancouver. Over the course of 5 years we mostly built the log house ourselves, starting with clearing the lot, then built the wood shed, then the sauna. I work as a geoscientist for a Vancouver consulting firm. My wife is a financial planner.

Why they chose this property

This property I stumbled across when doing a rock fall hazard assessment for the original owner of the quarter section. Despite it having been densely forested, I knew that I wanted this place. The scenery is divine and the tranquility is amazing. Glacierized mountains rising steeply almost 9000 foot (2700 m) from the valley bottom, bald eagles, salmon, black bears, hiking, rafting on the local rivers make this a very special place only an hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver.

What makes this property unique

The five acres allow one to roam freely and to hang out on the porch without been seen by neighbors. There is a creek on the western perimeter of the lot that leads into Squamish River. Salmon can be observed in the fall as well as abundant bald eagles during salmon season. Turkey vultures circle during the summer. You can back country ski right from the property up Mount Cloudburst, come back and enjoy the wood-burning sauna. Jumping in the snow and nobody but the odd bird will watch you. There are plum trees, apple trees, and cherry trees on the property, help yourself if you feel like it. Hiking trails are nearby and you can test your strength biking up a steep gravel road right behind the house. As of April 2013, an eco swimming pond, roughly 20 m long and 12 m wide awaits those of you who like to swim in water without addition of any chemicals. This pond has been constructed by a German pond-maker. It is naturally cleaned by an intricate filtration system and through the bacterial action of a large variety of water plants in the regeneration pond that borders the swimming pond.
