I thought paradise meant white sand beaches, but now it’s been redefined. The attention to detail inside and out was absolutely outstanding. Such a lovely home and gorgeous property. The hosts were amazing and attentive—so generous with how they stocked the home, including eggs, bread, snacks, and more as well as advice and quickly answering questions. This was our first stop on our first trip to Costa Rica, and the high bar was quickly set. Lovely home base for exploring the region. My kids have proclaimed this property to be their favorite rental ever, and we can’t wait to visit again.

Great communication! Great recommendations! The property is immaculate and thoughtfully designed for the guest. I was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds and the trail to the river. The jungle was accessible and wildlife was literally at your door with morning Tucans greeting you at breakfast. The home was fully stocked our hosts thoughtfully provided breakfast items, snacks, and drinks. This saved us time and energy for our quick stopover in Katira. We wish we could have stayed longer. Exceeded all our expectations including our local tour guide Jhonny.

We loved our stay at casa Rio Familia. The house was equipped with more than we needed. Great snacks and wine and beer plus sodas. The property is quiet and private yet close to everything. Many amazing birds and the gardens in the front are gorgeous. Definitely stay more than one night. Johnny the guide Rick and Ashley recommended was great and reasonably priced.

Thank you for the great review Kristi! We reaslly appreciate your kind words and you for staying with us. Pura Vida!
Rick and Ashley were great hosts. Since we were arriving at Casa Familia on Christmas Eve after sundown, I was concerned that we might not have food available for that night and Christmas Day. Rick was nice enough to buy us some food we requested to make Costa Rican dishes in advance, and it turned out to be enough food for our entire three-day stay, save for some drinks and snacks at Soda El Parque. We loved the environs and feeding and watching the birds, especially the Yellow-Throated Toucans, Collared Aracaris, and Montezuma Orependolas. We highly recommend staying at Casa Familia for anyone, but especially birders, who would be better equipped to identify the numerous other species we saw. We also greatly enjoyed our sloth watch and coffee tour with Johnny based on Rick and Ashley's recommendation. I wish we had booked a longer stay.

Thank you for the awesome review D! I'm not sure where my original reply went but better late than never!
Rick and Ashley were wonderful hosts and the house was every bit as nice as the pictures lead you to believe. Good drinking water from the tap, excellent big showers, nicely decorated, and seriously in the heart of the rain forest. On the porch you see nothing but trees and birds. Birds and more birds. Daily regulars included Toucans, Amazons, Alacari and Hummingbirds. We witnessed a fascinating conversation about the food in the feeder between the Toucans and a Montezuma Oropendola. It's in a perfect location for good local restaurants and activities in Tenorio Volcano Park and Rio Celeste. Absolutely get their recommended tour guide - Jhonny. Great guy. Kitchen was stocked with staples like coffee, milk, eggs, bread, and very nicely equipped. They checked in on us daily, and offered to pick up whatever we may need when they went to town. We were there for a big birthday and they brought us a Birthday Cake that day!

What a great way to start our journey through Costa Rica! Rick was incredibly responsive and made things easy and enjoyable for us throughout our stay. We didn’t see any real grocery stores so we especially appreciated the eggs, tasty fruit, and other items he provided. (If you want wine at home in the evening, buy some before you arrive - closest store doesn’t carry it). The home is lovely and is surrounded by a lush garden and jungle forest. The location couldn’t be better, as it is moments away from the hiking trail to Rio Celeste. Our favorite restaurant was Tapirus Paradise at the end of the street. Amazing food and friendly, attentive service at reasonable prices! We highly recommend staying at Rick’s place. You won’t be disappointed!

Amazing paradise! Do yourself a favor and book it!
Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids)visited Costa Rica for 9 days. We stayed in 3 different Vrbos but this one was our favorite. Absolutely amazing, paradise on earth! The hosts are very responsive and kind, you will arrive to some eggs, milk, snacks and fruit waiting for you. The location is perfect and safe. We were able to walk to the national park, maze, restaurants and the trail behind the house. We saw the most amount of different birds on our first morning out of our whole stay in Costa Rica. The hosts were restocking the fruits in the feeder to attract more birds. My teenage daughter said it was the best morning of her life waking up to all the birds just flying above us and then watching them eat the fruit just a few feet away from us. This place will stay in our hearts forever. Thank you for sharing it with us!

About the host
Hosted by Rick Graham
¡Pura Vida! Welcome to our slice of paradise.
We’re Rick and Ashley, and we’re so glad you’ve chosen Pura Vidaville for your adventure. Originally from Canada, we came seeking the magic of the Costa Rican jungle and ended up calling it home. In a wonderful twist of fate, we even found each other here!
We built this property to share the "authentic" Costa Rica we fell in love with—but with the modern comforts we know travelers value. We live just down the road, so we’re always nearby if you need a local tip or a helping hand, but we truly honor your privacy. Consider this your private rainforest retreat. Enjoy every moment!
Why they chose this property
"Nature First" We chose this specific neighborhood for its incredible biodiversity. Being tucked away in a rural, forested corridor means we share our backyard with toucans, sloths, and several species of monkeys. It’s a place where 'Pura Vida' isn’t just a slogan—it’s the daily pace of life. We wanted a location that felt deeply connected to the wild heart of Costa Rica, but was still accessible enough to serve as a convenient home base for exploring the northern highlands.
What makes this property unique
"Where the Jungle Stays Outside: A Quiet, Modern Escape Just Minutes from the Action"
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 “Casa Familia is located in a beautiful and tranquil setting. Surrounded by well groomed natural gardens with flowering plants and a feeding station to attract the local birds.” Janet
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟"We stayed at Casa Familia near Río Celeste and absolutely loved it. The home felt brand new, extremely clean, and full of thoughtful touches. The fridge was stocked with water, almond milk, fruit, beer, and even a bottle of wine. They also provided dry bags, ponchos, and even makeup towels—things you don’t expect but really appreciate." Sheldon
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟"This is by far our favorite Airbnb ever. A beautiful peaceful location. Our only regret is having to leave so soon. The house had all those little details that make your stay special." Harold
We had a specific dream for Pura Vidaville: to create a true sanctuary that feels deeply immersed in the Costa Rican rainforest while remaining incredibly accessible.
What sets us apart is the intentionality of our build. We’ve created a space where you can wake up to the sound of monkeys and still be at the gates of Rio Celeste in minutes. Unlike many jungle stays, we don't think "authentic" should mean "uncomfortable." With professional-grade construction, full A/C, and high-speed internet, we provide a clean, modern, and bug-free environment. You get the raw beauty of the jungle during the day and a refreshing, secure retreat at night.
