About this property
Private Tahitian Island. Sleeps six
This private Tahitian island sits 400 meters off the south coast of Tahiti in the district of Mataiea. It has a rustic, romantic simplicity with Tahitian-style bungalows.
There are white sand beaches, aquamarine waters, world-class snorkeling, exquisite sunsets, and night skies that will take your breath away.
The Island has 3 stand-alone sleeping bungalows, 2 bathrooms, a large main bungalow with Kitchen, Dining and Living space, and an outdoor waterfront Dining Area.
The experience comes with a small boat and captain, three paddle boards and a kayak
The district of Mataiea is a chance to see how real Polynesians live. It is about 50 minutes south of Papeete, filled with farms, fishing and small businesses. A popular spot with the locals is the fresh water pools of Vaima, as well as the gardens, waterfall and hiking of Vaipahi, which are minutes from the island. If you are a golfer, Tahiti's only golf course, the gorgeous Golf International Oliver Breaud, a 18 hole championship course is 10 minutes away.
You have a small boat and boat captain at your disposal for 8 hours a day. The boat captain can take you back and forth to the mainland and nearby snorkeling.
It is best to rent a car while in Tahiti, not only to get to and from the airport but also for exploring and shopping. Parking is available on our private mainland property, which is just across from the island.

Our Story…
In 1920 our Grandfather James Norman Hall came to Tahiti in search of paradise. It was here that he and his co-author Charles Nordoff began what was to become one of the most famous collaborations in modern literature writing such classics as Mutiny on the Bounty, The Hurricane and many others. In 1925 he married his true love, our Grandmother, Sarah Teheura Winchester (Mama Lala). They had 2 children our father, Conrad L. Hall and our Aunt, Nancy Hall Rutgers.
Conrad kept up the tradition of creative excellence going on to become one of the greatest cinematographers in Motion Picture History, garnering 3 Academy Awards for ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’, ‘American Beauty’ and ‘Road to Perdition’.
But the story of how he aquired Motu Mapeti began many years before, when Conrad was a small boy of 3. On a starry night in the district of Arue’ on Tahiti’s east coast, our Grandparents were entertaining their dear friends the Wilder’s, who at that time owned Motu Mapeti. It was said that on that night, a young Conrad was playing near the dinner table captivating his audience when the Wilders hatched a plan and bestowed Motu Mapeti upon the young Hall.
Dad fell in love with his island paradise. He spent nearly 30 years bringing his vision to life. Countless hours were spent with his friends and family designing, building and most of all dreaming. That brings you to us… his 3 children, Kate, Naia and Conrad. We have enjoyed the serenity and beauty of this paradise our entire lives and it dawned on us, “This is too great to not share with you!”

Why they chose this property
Mataiea is a rural neighborhood, mostly farmers and fisherman. It is a local’s paradise. No tourism here. We have many world class athletes that compete in outrigger canoe, and stand up paddle boarding. At sunset every day you will see a team of outrigger canoes racing up and down the lagoon. There are a couple of small grocery stores, a center with doctor, pharmacy and ATM. Not far is a wonderful fish market where you can buy fresh tuna, mahi-mahi, swordfish, and more. We also have a few restaurants nearby, which are listed in our guidebook. Our neighbors are all very friendly.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property so unique is that you have the island all to yourself. It is surrounded by beautiful, white sand beaches, and turquoise waters, live coral and beautiful snorkeling. Our bungalows are open air, authentic Tahitian style. It is rustic, but very comfortable. We have freshwater piped in from the mainland and hot water showers. Our electricity is solar generated and converted from 24 V DC to 220 V. AC. We have lighting and electrical outlets in all the bungalows. All your electronics can be plugged in. Our kitchen is fully equipped, including refrigeration and freezer. There’s an outdoor dining area and fire pit. It’s a perfect romantic getaway or a friends and family getaway.
