The Shire of Montana... a luxury Vacation Rental

Trout Creek, MT- In a remote valley in Northwest Montana stay in a cabin patterned after the houses described in the Hobbit. More than a bed to sleep in and a stove to cook on, the Shire offers visitors a luxury lodging experience full of imagination, magic and yes, a truly unique retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Surrounding the home is a village that comes to life at night with the magical display of lights from the cavalcade of mushrooms that line Hobbit Lane to the lighted mural of a whole Elven Village. The excitement is heightened when these fairy structures begin to light up one after the other at dusk. If you are really lucky...and quiet, you may see the shadows of Fairy creatures or catch a glimpse of them at home as they like to gather in a special pine tree near the creek and chat the night away...

The owners have made it a point to share a special treat with each guest upon their arrival- a very large and distinctive Trollhouse cookie made with special fairy dust! They also made sure that the kitchen is well equipped including a barbeque grill located on the deck outside. The entire Shire overlooks their scenic Whitepine Ranch which boasts an old fashioned, red barn built in 1918 and a pond that brings in a myriad of waterfowl including Baldwin the resident Bald Eagle, blue herons and many diving osprey who dine on the Cutthroat trout living in the pond. Guests might also see deer, elk, and moose swimming in the pond, coyotes, and mountain lions along with the occasional bear or wolf.

The 1,000 square foot guest cottage comes complete with one king bedroom and a very small, guest bedroom. It has XM Radio, HD-Satellite flat screen TV with a Blu-Ray CD player with a library of books and CDs. There’s even a wood burning stove for those rare chilly nights; however the cottage stays a constant 55 degrees because it’s entirely underground. Phone service is available as there is Spotty cell service in and among Whitepine Shire.

The Shire of Montana is available for rental for $595 per night with a two night minimum and must be guaranteed with a major credit card. Because of the intimate details and hand crafted displays, no pets nor children are allowed. Advance reservations are required.

Enjoy the unique features of this magical dwelling, with an added twist of imagery and sophistication. The enchantment is almost spiritual and unlike anything you have ever seen before because it is such an uplifting experience... makes you feel like a kid again!

This was the most wonderful stay! It was so comfortable and relaxing to be here. The little fairy/hobbit village on the grounds was delightful and we had the best time exploring and finding all the hidden doors. If you ever need a break from real life, this is the place to go!

Charming, special, and very relaxing!

The Shire is a very special guesthouse for those looking for a unique and relaxing getaway. The Hobbit/LOR theme is wonderfully imaginative and splendidly well done. Even if you are not a hard-core Tolkien fan, the Shire's accommodations and hospitality are fantastic and perfect for a very private and relaxing stay.

Spotless and high-end. Would recommend this hobbit house highly. We stayed for two of the most wonderful days, coming home very relaxed. Complimentary gift basket, wine, beer and s’mores. I think I found heaven. The king bed was ultra comfortable. The grass was meticulously mowed, BBQ, fire pit, Go now!!

Chris and Steve have perfected every detail. From the minute I arrived the lighting, music and refreshments were perfect. The place is magical and takes you on a adventure. Absolutely Amazing!

My wife is a huge LotR fan. She reads everything to do with fey and faeries, so I surprised her with a trip here for the weekend without the kids. She loved it so much!!!! Being quiet people, the solitude and peacefulness was amazing. The Shire is meticulously constructed and maintained, every detail and I mean every detail is attended to. It is the perfect getaway. Thank you soooo much for sharing this wonderful property with us! We would love to return! I recommend this to anyone looking for some peace and quiet in a far away land filled with all the lore of fairy tale land!

Magical

From the moment you ascend the drive, open the front door, and step aside, this place will astonish you. It's all the things a vacation rental should be -- clean, beautifully furnished, well-equipped, and comfortable -- but it's also so much more! During our three-day stay, we watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy (both the theatrical and extended versions are thoughtfully supplied on blu-ray), and the story that we love so much came alive for us in a new way. There are so many small details, both indoors and out, to delight and enchant. The owners even supplied us with snacks and beverages, because hobbits, after all, eat six times a day. :-) We were also greeted on arrival with a lovely bottle of wine and a card congratulating us on our anniversary, which was the reason for our visit, a detail that I had disclosed when making the reservation six months prior. We will treasure our memories of staying in this incredible place, and we hope to return someday!

We cannot say enough about our stay! Steve & Chris have done an amazing job in making us feeling like kids again! The Hobbit House is top quality with lots of wonderful treats! And as soon as you walk thru the door you are transformed into a kid. The Hobbit houses, the wee folks who live in the woods, the trolls and goblins are truly outstanding!! I love the sound affects at night! 20 acres of fantastic fun and as they say "the adventure begins here"! We are so excited about returning we are already planning our next "adventure". Thank you Steve and Chris for creating sure a beautiful and exciting place to "become a kid" again. One last note...at sundown the real adventure begins, it is absolutely stunning!! There are also a bazillion different colored fairies that are fluttering all over the twenty acres. It's so enchanting you'll never want to leave!!

Pure Magic

I surprised my husband with a secret road trip to Trout Creek. When we pulled up to The Shire house, he said, "What?! NO WAY!" He was blown away by the accuracy and beauty of the house, as well as all the detail inside the house and the forest. It brought him to tears. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay, and completed 5/6ths of the extended edition of LOTR. We would recommend this to any Tolkien fan!

Birthday weekend getaway

I surprised my boyfriend with a getaway to the hobbit house for his birthday. The Michaels hospitality was above and beyond….to the snack filled welcome basket with wine, the beverage stocked refrigerator, and all the amenities you could need! They have an immaculate property with such imagination and attention to detail to bring this house straight out of the storybook. This was exactly the relaxing, peaceful escape we needed! We can’t wait to go back!

Anniversary Vacation

We so much enjoyed The Shire. Steve let us check in 3 hrs. early. The quietness, the secluded area, the house (so gorgeous), the stocked fridge, the goodies, the wine, the bed, everything was so wonderful. When we checked out we went to Steve & Chris house & met Chris, she is such a beautiful person. I got a photo with her. We couldn't have found a better most beautiful place to spend our Anniversary. I will probably never see Montana again in my lifetime but if I ever do The Shire is my number one place to be. I have always dreamed of going to Montana & I finally made it & I am so I did. Thank you Steve & Chris you were so kind, generous to us. Even called to check if we needed anything & if we were ok. God bless you two.

Whitepine Valley has always been a special place visited by American Indians, Ravens and Wizards so the idea of a Shire was only natural.

What makes this property unique

While visiting the Shire you are able to take some wildlife photo right out your front door due to the Michaels 2 acre pond which attracts bald eagles, herons and osprey who come in to dine on the many cutthroat trout. You are also able to sit along the River Shire and listen to the babbling brook, visit with Bilbo at his home or visit the many occupants of the Shire to share this magical experience like nothing else in the world.
