About the host
Hosted by Lauren Weatherly
We are Lauren and Bryan, and we’re so happy to share our special place in Summit County with others. Bryan, a software engineer, was born in the Denver area. Lauren, a teacher, moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado in the late 1990’s, and never left.
The mountains are our happy place. Lauren is a skier, and Bryan is a snowboarder, and you know what they say about opposites attracting! When off the slopes, you can find us out on the hiking trail with our two pups Bonnie and Ada.
We pride ourselves on being “lazy hikers”. We’re not after summiting peaks or pushing our bodies past the limit. We like to take our time, really connect with the surroundings, and enjoy every moment in the wilderness. No hate for folks after extreme experiences, but over the years we’ve been disappointed by the presence of exclusionary practices in mountain sports, forwarding a dominant message that you have to be fit, experienced, or honestly…white, to belong in the outdoors. But we reject that outright. Push yourself if that’s what you’re into, but also welcome those different from you. We firmly believe that everyone belongs in nature, and so we’ll do anything in our power to welcome folks of all backgrounds, skill levels, or experience levels.
After enjoying Owl Nest Retreat for a couple years to ourselves, we are now ready to share its magic with others. It’s a perfect cozy nest to melt into when you need some mountain air and gorgeous scenery.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this property from the moment we walked into it. It's modestly sized, but so versatile and well laid out. It has the vintage features we love, like original wood walled dining area, cool vintage countertops, private sauna, and mid-mod fireplace. But it also has modern appliances and bathroom, the things you want to be newer. It's across the street from National Forest trails accessing tons of amazing hikes, and across the street from the Summit Stage bus stop, a free local bus system. It's warm, inviting, and perfect for a cozy mountain stay.
What makes this property unique
The care we’ve put into styling and setting up our place is what guests tell us makes us stand out. You’ll have everything you need, and maybe a little extra.
