We loved the charm and character of this property. The spaciousness of the common areas, including an expansive family room/dining area, terrace and yard, suited our large group. Plenty of room to gather together, but also quiet spaces to read, puzzle, etc. Close to beaches and restaurants, and other places of interest to explore, we had a wonderful visit - it was difficult to leave.
This is a beautiful historic home filled with character . The yard is perfect for children to play and adults to relax. The location is perfect , being in the historic part of Sandwich and close to several beautiful beaches just a few miles away. There are several extras to the home which made the stay so much easier- beach chairs, toys, yard games… the list goes on . We loved it
Lovely home and perfect place for a family reunion
Lovely home with enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate our group of 16 (13 adults and 3 children ages 8, 15, and 16) and two dogs. We really enjoyed the sunroom with the large dining table, where we were able to all sit down for several family meals during our stay. The kitchen was well-equipped (really like having the sharping stone for the knives). Having both the single-serving Keurig and the 10-cup coffee maker worked well for our large group.
The location made for easy walking to the boardwalk and beach as well as for some souvenir shopping and visits to the bakery. It was the perfect spot for exploring other parts of the Cape.
Candace was such a wonderful host. We enjoyed the welcome bag with all sorts of goodies and a personal note. The "smores" kit was enjoyed around the fire pit and the bottle of wine did not last very long.
Beautiful and classic multifamily summer home stay
Four families plus two dogs stayed at this little compound, and it was a perfect little haven for us all. Enough rooms and sleeping arrangements for all the adults to have real beds and even teenagers have their own escapes. In our party is a severely allergic child and the kitchen was clean and organized enough to handle that, and having the separate kitchenette and fridge in a completely separate cottage for "outside" foods was perfect. Slightly mazelike rooms actually very charming and made us feel like we were exploring the kind of house with a doorway to Narnia (we are from boring West Coast suburbia so this kind of house is super novel to us). Both covered and open outdoor space so prepared for all weather (it rained a bit). A dining table big enough for 15! Very well-stocked kitchen (enough stuff to use while half of it in dishwasher). The neighborhood is absolutely lovely, very walkable, the historic section of Sandwich. Nothing like reading a book on the history of the area and realizing they refer to the intersection right outside your door or the library some feet away. The place is very well run, obviously by detail oriented people. Highly recommend, even if we suspect we won't be able to come here later due to popularity!
This house was amazing! Located in the heart of downtown Sandwich, our group of 12 were able to come and go as we pleased without having to drive everywhere! Lots of cute restaurants, shops, and museums in Sandwich plus a short walk to the boardwalk and beach. The house was clean and there was plenty of space for everyone. Host was responsive when we needed them (which wasn’t often as they thought of most everything), and there were lots of bedding, towels, beach chairs and towels, and even robes for when you exited the hot tub. Our family loved this place and would definitely stay here again!
This house and property is lovely in every way.
Care and thought have been put into all the details
making staying here seamless from beginning to end. The hosts are communicative, available, and helpful.
Sandwich is a wonderful location from which to visit the Cape. From the house itself there are endless explorations to enjoy for all ages and interests.
All thirteen of our family members (ages 3-78) highly recommend August House !

About the host
Hosted by Candace Sjogren
Hello and welcome to our home! We are a small family of 5, with a toddler and two amazing doodles. We spend a lot of time outdoors, and like to spend time in California (mom's favorite spot outside the Cape), so we open our home up to a small number of families so that you can experience the magic of our little town.
Why they chose this property
We think that there is a little bit of magic in this home. We came to the Cape for a winter weekend away, and found this amazing space. It has all of the modern amenities of a newer build, but has historic charm as well.
What makes this property unique
We think you will love the cedar hot tub and sauna (we just added them last fall), as they offer the perfect place to wind down after a day at the beach or touring.
