Relax with the whole family (or two families) at this peaceful mountain retreat
The space
Spacious home in the quiet and convenient Soda Springs neighborhood of Pla-Vada only 2 hours from the East Bay and conveniently located to Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Lake and Tahoe/Truckee. Relax by the fire with a glass of wine while the kids play in the upstairs playroom. A perfect place for your family adventure plus big enough for two families to enjoy together.
Guest access
We are a keyless Vacation Rental. You will receive a code from me prior to check-in that will unlock the front door. (Just enter the code and the “unlock” button). This code will last throughout your stay. Please lock the house whenever you leave - lock the back door & upstairs porch from the inside, and then just push the ‘lock” button on the front door keypad. (No need to enter the code to lock it).
Note for winter:
The driveway will be plowed in the morning any time more than 3” of snow falls, but it is possible for snow to pile up between snow plow visits. The perimeter of the driveway has long plastic poles that can be used to help find it in deep snow. If you need to clear snow from the driveway or the walkway you can find a snow shovel leaning against the railing of the front porch that borders the driveway.
Other things to note
Winter weather:
Please keep in mind that we are high in the Sierras and in Winter there will be snow on the ground and it may be actively snowing on your way here, during your stay and on your way back. It’s totally reasonable to be uncomfortable driving in the snow, but if that’s you, it may be better to book during the warmer months. There is tons to do in the Sierras in Summer, late Spring, and early Fall - it’s an amazing area! In our community the roads and our driveway are plowed but if the snow is freshly fallen there may be some light shoveling on the walk way (shovel provided).
Stairs:
Please note that the stairs leading to the third floor are fairly steep. Our 6 year old and my mother in law are both able to navigate them fine, but if you have concerns that any member of your group may not be able to use them safely, please reach out and we would be happy to give you more details and help you determine if everyone in your group will be comfortable using the stairs. The cabin also has a baby gate in the downstairs bedroom’s closet that can be used to deter unwanted access to the stairs if desired.
Trash:
Please be aware that the cabin is in bear country. Because of this the HOA requires that all homes dispose of their trash in the bear proof dumpsters that are at the entrance to the development. There are no outdoor trash cans that can be used on the property. The bear proof dumpsters are about 1/4 mile from the cabin.
