About this property

Peace In the Pines, a multi family, kid friendly cabin with fireplace

Relax with the whole family (or two families) at this peaceful mountain retreat

The space
Spacious home in the quiet and convenient Soda Springs neighborhood of Pla-Vada only 2 hours from the East Bay and conveniently located to Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Lake and Tahoe/Truckee. Relax by the fire with a glass of wine while the kids play in the upstairs playroom. A perfect place for your family adventure plus big enough for two families to enjoy together.

Guest access
We are a keyless Vacation Rental. You will receive a code from me prior to check-in that will unlock the front door. (Just enter the code and the “unlock” button). This code will last throughout your stay. Please lock the house whenever you leave - lock the back door & upstairs porch from the inside, and then just push the ‘lock” button on the front door keypad. (No need to enter the code to lock it).

Note for winter:
The driveway will be plowed in the morning any time more than 3” of snow falls, but it is possible for snow to pile up between snow plow visits. The perimeter of the driveway has long plastic poles that can be used to help find it in deep snow. If you need to clear snow from the driveway or the walkway you can find a snow shovel leaning against the railing of the front porch that borders the driveway.

Other things to note
Winter weather:
Please keep in mind that we are high in the Sierras and in Winter there will be snow on the ground and it may be actively snowing on your way here, during your stay and on your way back. It’s totally reasonable to be uncomfortable driving in the snow, but if that’s you, it may be better to book during the warmer months. There is tons to do in the Sierras in Summer, late Spring, and early Fall - it’s an amazing area! In our community the roads and our driveway are plowed but if the snow is freshly fallen there may be some light shoveling on the walk way (shovel provided).

Stairs:
Please note that the stairs leading to the third floor are fairly steep. Our 6 year old and my mother in law are both able to navigate them fine, but if you have concerns that any member of your group may not be able to use them safely, please reach out and we would be happy to give you more details and help you determine if everyone in your group will be comfortable using the stairs. The cabin also has a baby gate in the downstairs bedroom’s closet that can be used to deter unwanted access to the stairs if desired.

Trash:
Please be aware that the cabin is in bear country. Because of this the HOA requires that all homes dispose of their trash in the bear proof dumpsters that are at the entrance to the development. There are no outdoor trash cans that can be used on the property. The bear proof dumpsters are about 1/4 mile from the cabin.

About the host

We are a family of 5 living in the foothills of Northern Ca. We love making memories outside. We recently bought this cabin and absolutely love it year round. We love hearing guests stories about the memories they made and what they enjoyed about the local sites.

Why they chose this property

The Pla-Vada neighborhood is quiet and friendly and wonderfully located to nature. It is a great place to take a walk (or multiple walks throughout the day), fish along the Yuba River, ride snow mobiles in during the winter or ride bikes in during the warmer seasons. It is very close to most of the ski resorts in the area without all of the traffic of Truckee. With that said, it is close enough to Truckee for some shopping and dining out. There are many hikes near Donner Lake, the old train tunnels in Norden and of course the Donner Camp historic trail. We have also enjoyed making a day trip to Incline Village bowling just up the highway. Bring your family and friends and make memories outside to last a lifetime!

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is unique in a way that fits multiple families comfortably. There are 3 bedrooms with large beds and closed doors and an entire floor upstairs dedicated to kids and teenagers. It has a wood burning fireplace that when heated up correctly makes you want to cuddle up with a good book and watch the snow fall. We are located super close to all of the ski resorts so you can choose which one is right for you whether you are a novice or expert on the slopes. Or if you prefer cross country skiing, we are about 10 minutes from Royal Gorge. The cabin is also central to exploring California's rich and colorful history along with window shopping or splurging in downtown Truckee. Come see for yourself why this cabin is meant for family and friends.
