4-Season Sierra Retreat - Borders Tahoe Forest - South Yuba River - Sleeps 10
Step out your back door and you're already in Tahoe National Forest. This private 4-bedroom Soda Springs cabin sits at the forest edge of PlaVada Woodlands where the neighborhood ends and protected wilderness begins — no neighbors to the west, no future development, just towering pines and mountain quiet as far as you can see.
As PlaVada community guests you have private pedestrian access to the South Yuba River — one of Northern California's most beloved swimming and fishing rivers — just a quarter mile walk through the neighborhood. A private community lake is available seasonally. Donner Lake is 15 minutes by car. Hiking, snowmobile, cross-country ski, and snowshoe trails start directly from the front door. WHAT MAKES THIS CABIN SPECIAL • Tahoe National Forest borders the property — permanent wilderness, no future neighbors • Private South Yuba River access (PVCA guest privilege) — 10 min walk • Private community lake — seasonal access • Direct trail access for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing & snowshoeing • Private sledding slope on site — sleds provided (best with established snowpack) • Every bedroom has forest views — wake up in the trees no matter which room • Spacious deck for morning coffee, sunsets, and mountain air • Reliable deep snowpack — regularly 4-6+ feet mid-winter
WINTER Step outside and you're already there. Snowmobile trails, cross-country ski routes, and snowshoe paths begin steps from the front door — no driving, no shuttle, no gear shuffle. Soda Springs sits at elevation with some of the most reliable snowpack in the Sierra Nevada. A private sledding slope on the west side of the property has been a favorite with guests— sleds are provided. Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, and Royal Gorge Cross-Country are all minutes away.
SUMMER Trade the valley heat for cool mountain air — temperatures at elevation run 15-20 degrees cooler than Sacramento and the Bay Area. The South Yuba River, a 10-minute walk through the neighborhood, offers some of the best swimming holes in Northern California. Donner Lake is 15 minutes away for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Hike directly into Tahoe National Forest from the back of the property. The private community lake is open seasonally. In the evenings the deck catches the last of the Sierra light through the pines.
FALL & SPRING Fall brings golden aspens, quiet trails, and the South Yuba at its clearest — one of the most underrated times to visit the Sierra. Spring offers late season snow alongside opening fishing season and wildflowers along the Yuba River trail. Shoulder season rates make both ideal times to book.

Hi Justin,
It was a pleasure hosting you. Thank you for taking such great care of the cabin. Hosts dream of guests like you—please come back anytime!

The cabin was in great shape and host was readily available to answer questions during our stay. Close enough to ski areas to get there pretty quickly in the morning and plenty of snowy areas outside the cabin for kids to play in the snow. We had a great time!

About the host
Hosted by Gary Bennett
I’m a new VRBO host who grew up in Northern California and has always loved spending time around Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains. This area has been a special part of my life for years, and I’m excited to share it with guests. When I'm not working, you’ll usually find me out on the trails mountain biking or on the water with a stand‑up paddleboard. I love helping people experience all the beauty and adventure Tahoe has to offer, and my goal as a host is to make your stay comfortable, easy, and memorable. I look forward to welcoming you!
Why they chose this property
I chose this neighborhood because it offers the perfect balance of peace, natural beauty, and convenience. The home sits at the very end of the street, giving it a private, quiet feel, with the Tahoe National Forest literally in the side yard. Step outside and you’re surrounded by towering pines, trails, and the sounds of nature. At the same time, you’re just minutes away from everything there is to love about the Sierras — hiking, mountain biking, skiing, paddle boarding, and charming local spots. It’s the ideal base for both relaxation and adventure.
What makes this property unique
This home stands out for its bright, open‑concept layout that creates a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere the moment you walk in. The oversized kitchen offers plenty of counter space and is perfect for families or groups who enjoy cooking and spending time together. Every window looks out into the forest, providing peaceful, tree‑filled views with no close neighbors in sight. Whether you’re preparing meals, sharing stories at the dining table, or relaxing in the living area, there’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the privacy and beauty that surrounds the home.
