Excellent Vacation Stay!
While Mother Nature did not provide the weather we had hoped for, our overall visit and accommodations were outstanding! Host was very communicative and provided a lot of little amenities in the house, which was very much appreciated! I traveled with my 3 girls and the accommodations were very spacious and having access to the washer/dryer was a huge plus! We enjoyed the snacks that the host provided as well as enjoyed playing the board games that were at the house. Location is a short walk to the beach in a pedestrian friendly area. Would book again!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi! My name is Christi Kunkle and my husband Eddie and I have lived here full-time since 2010. My sweet mother-in-law Nina purchased this beach duplex in 1987. We are blessed to live here and really want to share it with people. My husband was born in Newberry, SC and his ties to this area began when he was little and vacationed here. He later went on to The Citadel in downtown Charleston and graduated in 1981. He is now employed with The Citadel. I was born and raised in Hickory, NC. I began coming to the area with Eddie when we started dating in 2007. We married in 2013 and will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year. I work from home as an international proposal consultant for Sirva. We have 3 adult children in their 30's combined and the most amazing granddaughter. We enjoy boating, fishing, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and our 3 precious dogs. We have a 16 year old Shih Tzu named Zoe. She is very sweet but cannot hear or see very well anymore. In June of 2022 we adopted Poppy. She is a 4 -5 year old cattle dog mix. She is about 35lbs and super sweet. She came to us from Berkeley Animal Center and was rescued from an abuse/neglect situation. In November of 2022 we had an unplanned adoption of our 6lb Chihuahua Coco. When I say unplanned, we were not looking for another dog but seeing her face and hearing her story we could not help ourselves. Coco is about a year old and loves cuddles. She was rescued by Berkeley Animal Center from an extreme abuse/neglect situation. She has a couple of pellets of bird shot in her tiny body. Both Poppy and Coco are good girls but still shy with new people but building trust in the world daily. We have the backyard separated by a wooden fence so they will never be on your side of the property and they are never outside alone.

Why they chose this property

This property is so special to us. We call it Nina's Place in honor of my late mother-in-law Nina who passed away in June of 2021(she did not pass in the home!). She loved this home and so do we. She purchased the property in 1987 just two years before Hurricane Hugo. The house had some minor damage for a storm of that size but was quickly repaired and we renovated the downstairs and outside starting in late 2021 through 2022. The duplex was built in 1950 and one of the few remaining on the island. It is one of the "JC Long" properties. Here is a wonderful link to learn about the history of the island and the two story duplexes. http://www.sipmagazinesc.com/creating-a-community-how-jc-long-built-isle-of-palms. The duplex is 3 houses from the beach so in a less than a 5 minute walk (unless you have toddlers in tow) you will have your toes in the sand. We are two blocks and within walking distance to the rec center where you will find tennis courts, basketball courts, new pickle ball courts, and a wonderful playground. We are a half mile walk from the Harris Teeter shopping center and Ocean Park Plaza across the street. Both locations have everything from groceries, pharmaceuticals, restaurants, and the local ABC store. We are about a 1 mile walk from downtown Isle of Palms where you will find casual and upscale dining and fun nightlife.

What makes this property unique

The unique benefit to this property is that it is a family home. There has been a lot of love shared here as a family and for this island with many fond memories created. We hope that you will consider choosing Nina's Place to create your memories here!
