Hidden gem with breathtaking views

Great long weekend for our family at The Highwall! The place was beautiful inside & out. Everyone caught so many fish, watched the wildlife throughout the property & enjoyed the hot tub. It was clean, large enough for all of us and the pond was ideal! Owner Ron & property manager Jackie made our stay and reservations so easy. Can’t wait to go back!

Family time

We wanted a quiet place to relax and spend quality family time together. The Highwall was 100% the best choice. Very clean and welcoming the grounds were beautiful and wildlife was amazing to watch. Little touches in the house made our stay very enjoyable.

Beautiful Property

This house was well laid out and had great personal touches. We loved the s’mores box! Also used the grill and found all the tools inside the grill, so no hunting around for tools. We did some cooking and baking and the house has everything we needed. We loved looking out the windows and seeing the lake and wild life. Overall, great stay.

Perfection!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The scenery from the deck is unmatched- beautiful green hills and pond. We saw all sorts of wildlife and enjoyed many cups of coffee from the deck chairs. This was the perfect place for our parents as well as our children to enjoy. From canoe on the pond to watching the storm and rainbow from the hot tub- we checked all of the boxes :) The host and manager were amazing, responding immediately when we had inquiries. The cabin is spacious with plenty of rooms and beds and full bathrooms. Will definitely be rebooking this gem next opportunity we have!

Beautiful Property

Our family was looking for a location halfway between Bristow, VA and Columbus, OH. We wanted a variety of activities to be accessible. This was a perfect location. It had a lake you could fish and canoe, plus you could walk the gorgeous property. Every day we'd sit on the deck and watch the wildlife - several hummingbirds came right up to the feeder attached to the deck. The location was close to Moraine State Park and about an hour from Pittsburgh. The house was the perfect size for all 7 of us. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. I love an outdoor shower - and this property has one of the best. Our granddaughter loved the firepit (maybe because a smores kit was provided). We met the owner who was extremely helpful. We had no issues during the week. I would highly recommend this property.

There was mold all throughout the entire lower layer, (we had to empty dehumidifier basin every few hours) the correspondence with owners were hostile, three of the four bedrooms had the closets where you can hang stuff locked with padlocks. Thus there was no where for most guests to hang there cloths. There was a huge sign stating you are under surveillance sign stuck to the fridge, which made no one ever feel at home. After reporting on the chains, locks and secured areas the next day a strange man started to loudly knock on our door. It terrified my son and when we tried to find out why he was thier he walked without response. We later found out that it was the owner, but it was still very stressful.Yes the rental agreement stated this was a very restrictive place to rent, but none of us were prepared for this extreme.

Response from VrboOwner on 5 August 2026
This renter complained from the moment he stepped foot inside the house. When asked for him to explain what exactly was the issue and he refused to elaborate. He said there were padlocks and locked closets. The padlocks lock the wood burning stove which are prohibited for use for safety reasons. There are locked closets for the owners personal items, as most rentals have. The video surveillance is outside only pointing at the lake and driveway areas. All of this was mentioned in the description and rental agreements that were given to the tenant. As far as the mold, this is the first I’m hearing of that complaint and it is 100% false. The majority of homes in Pennsylvania have dehumidifiers that run in the basements to keep moisture out. This is common and not a sign that mold is in the home. We have never had any other complaints about our property and this is disheartening.

Our family had an absolutely wonderful stay at this lake home! The property was beautiful, exceptionally clean, and offered plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. The owners were fantastic to work with—communication was excellent, and they always responded promptly to any questions we had.The views from the property were truly breathtaking and provided the perfect backdrop for a peaceful getaway. We especially enjoyed spending evenings around the bonfire area and taking full advantage of the private lake. It was the ideal place to unwind, reconnect, and make lasting family memories. We highly recommend this property to anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxing retreat in a beautiful setting. We can’t wait to come back!
