About this property

'Palace' Oceanfront, Picturesque Cove & Semiprivate Beach

A sweet cottage at the best location ever!!!
Waterfront cottage on sheltered cove--rocks, sand, sea glass! Wonderful views of rocky coast from open deck and sitting room with huge windows! Watch Lobster Boats come into cove to tend their traps! Best of both worlds: beside Short Beach plus short walk to Long Public Beach for surfing or running with the sea at your feet and wind in your hair! Water in every direction.

Character: delightful diamond-pane old windows and antiques.

House on the same property also has incredible ocean views, in case other family members or friends want to be nearby. See HomeAway #961056.

Internet (wifi), Cable TV, Books.

Size: 660 sq ft + deck 10x12 + screened porch 8x12.

The beautiful white sand beaches of Biddeford offer a getaway vacation that you will want to return to every summer--and this cottage offers the perfect spot. Enjoy watching sparkling water and waves breaking on the rocks, from the comfort of your living room or deck. Wade in the sheltered waters on the small beach just a few steps away, or stroll down to jump in the waves on the 3-mile-long beach just over the hill--Fortunes Rocks is known for its beaches, and surfers visit all year!

The quiet small beach and the splashing public beach are as different as night and day, and this house is one of the very few giving you the best of both.

Stroll out into the yard and enjoy the flowers, then step onto the beach to explore rock pools at the edge of the sea. Sit on the beach with the light breeze and the sand between your toes--the kids can make sand castles in the fresh salty air.

Town is only a few minutes away, where you can discover that the historic districts of Biddeford and Saco provide delightful walks. New development has brought cafes (including Panera Bread!) and ethnic restaurants. The mills have been transformed by artisans, woodworkers and many small businesses in the new loft spaces on the island in the Saco River. History and architecture buffs will enjoy the “Museum on the Streets” self-guided walking tour. Scenic river views may be enjoyed from trails, a gazebo and benches.

Funtown, Aquaboggin, & shopping malls are nearby: To the north, there is Old Orchard (15 minutes), Portland (a half hour), and Freeport's LL Bean store just beyond. To the south, Boston is an hour and a half, Kennebunkport just 15 minutes, and the shopping at Kittery Outlet Malls in between.

Boater's paradise: there is a boat launch on the Saco River; kayak rentals for the river/salt marshes to the north/the ocean! There are lobster boats, fishing boats, boats to whale-watch!

Artists paint islands and lighthouses at Biddeford Pool, and visit galleries from Perkins Cove to Kennebunkport.

Naturalists can walk the beach, the salt marshes, woods, and fields, watching for birds, chipmunk, woodchuck, beaver, fox, wild turkey, deer, moose, ... Bigfoot?!!? Well, what's a summer without a little adventure? Maine is Vacationland, and the 'Palace' at Fortunes Rocks has the best location of all.

Near shopping, arts, theatre, antiques, book sales, whale watch, fishing, kayaking, lobster!

Perfect for just resting and rejuvenating in the salty air!

Getting there: Apart from driving, or flying to Boston (BOS) or Porland (PWM), you could even come by train! The new Amtrak station, opened in 2009, is notable for being the first green design train station in the U.S., featuring a wind turbine for electricity, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and a roof made from recycled soda bottles.

N.B. Not available in winter, since the pipes cannot be winterized.

Such a sweet little cottage. The giant door to the deck was our favorite part. Being able to have it open to listen to the crashing waves was bliss.

Beautiful Location

We had a very relaxing few days in this vintage cottage where we spent most of the time on the deck overlooking the ocean. Ocean air and the sound of the waves as the tide comes onto the neighboring beach… what could be better?

Half marathon stay

So much potential in this Diamond in the rough. As a lover of old homes, the bones are great, but needs a lot of TLC. Furniture stained/ worn and outdoor furniture rusted and dysfunctional / towels smell like washer needs to be cleaned but location , Suzanne, the screened porches all divine:-) Kitchen is well stocked with pans/ pots and appointed with odds and ends like a college dorm thrift store. For 830 for three nights, maybe splurge on a really nice couch cover and nice chairs:-)

Short stay by the sea

Restful seaside location far enough away from the hustle of the resorts, yet only minutes away to those attractions. Cozy and comfortable, killer oceanview.

The Palace is Great

Just right for us and our son & daughter-in-law. The small private cove beach was great. The larger Biddeford Pool beach was very nice, but a bit of a walk.

Small, clean, and comfortable

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this small, comfortable cottage close to Fortunes Rocks Beach, beautiful walking trails, and charming coastal towns. The cottage was clean and well-equipped and the owner very responsive when we had a question. Would highly recommend!

Suzanne is a wonderful host! Her cottage is perfectly located for people like us who's looking for tranquility and the proximity of everything. The living room is incredible because of the ocean view and the little private beach is so cute. Hope to meet you next year!

Cute 'n Cozy!

Cute little cottage, perfect size for two adults without children. It was quiet and felt private yet not remote (people walked by, etc.). Bedrooms are very small so we slept in one and kept our clothes/got dressed in the other. Loved the screened in porch with the garden view as an option to the open deck on the ocean side, it was a nice place to eat meals and play games. Great view of the water, rocks with the birds, tide coming and going on the small beach ... all 'right there'!

Beautiful location, you can hear the surf and see a a rocky section of the cove from the living room. The accommodations are basic and the cottage is small - it was perfect for two adults and two small dogs. The owner is very responsive and concerns are dealt with promptly. Would definitely return.

Please keep in mind my review is based on my standards and expectations. I did see photos before hand and knew the cottage was dated. The cottage had a bad smell. Opened windows to air out but could not remove odor. Sat on side and back porch in the evening to get some fresh air. Unfortunately the main house on the property has a 2-head security light that was very bright and was very unpleasant while trying to enjoy the evening air and scenery. The kitchen was in fine. The living room same as photo, but with dust on floor. The bedrooms were small. Poor mattress. Not a traditional mattress and was lumpy. Did not care for the sheets. Fabric was similar to a tee shirt material. Smelled clean but held previous hairs and debris. Bathroom towels mismatched with no continuity in folding. The bathtub had a few leftover dark hairs. The cottage has fun rustic windows, but whoever painted the window frames white did a messy job. They did not paper or tape off the window panes so paint is all over the glass which takes away from their charm and drives me crazy but maybe doesn't bother most people. The main house on the property causes an obstructed view. You can see a small view of the ocean, side view of the beach, and you can hear the surf. The owner Suzanne was great at communication, providing quite a bit of local information. I also had a possibility of cancelling and she was willing to work with me on that. Suzanne does love her property.

The Palace

I love the location of this house and property. It's got it's own private beach and a great view of the ocean. It's close to town and it's very easy to get to. It's charming with old windows and doors. Bedroom are small but quaint with great huge windows that open in. It's a true beach house with funky furniture that's comfortable . It's a 5 minute walk to Fortunes Rocks Beach and under 10 minutes to Goose Rocks Beach. Cape Porpoise has all of the amenities that you need and it's quiet enough here to spend the whole day reading. I'm already booked for next year!

Palace review

The property itself was fine. I think I expected a bit more. The owner was wonderful and did a great job communicating. Overall it was clean, just dusty floors under the furniture and television. My biggest concern were the window coverings. The blinds in the living room were not able to be lowered which allowed for the neighbors to see inside. It was awkward and did scare my daughter a bit. The first night we didn't have any blankets but they were delivered the next day. We did enjoy our stay in Maine but will probably stay closer to Portland if we return.

Rustic Cottage

We had a few cleanliness issues when we arrived. We found mouse droppings throughout the cottage. We found many dirty dishes, glasses, and utensils dirty. Coffee area had dried coffee on counter. We had to remove the couch cover due to dog hair all over it. Suzanne was extremely good about communicating with us and addressed our issue regarding the mice. A property manager came over and fixed a screen door and put mice traps out. Prior to our visit, Suzanne provided us with lots of information regarding Biddeford and attractions. This cottage is very rustic and could use a few upgrades/TLC. Beds/mattress are very old. It may be time for new ones. The cottage is cute, and in a great location.
