About this property
Beautifully appointed home in the heart of Nantucket.
9 Gay Street is located on a cozy street in the historic district of Nantucket and only minutes to Main Street. The house is designed by an interior decorator with comfortable furniture and lovely accents to display its elegance. There is off- street parking . A tasteful blue stone patio with outdoor furniture and gas grill is pleasant and private. An outdoor shower is around the corner on the patio. The first floor has an undated kitchen, breakfast nook, and open living room with large screen TV. Off the kitchen/living area is a formal dining room with a long farm table that seats 12. A half bath and inviting den are near by.
The second floor has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Updated sheets and towels are plentiful. A small office nook is around the corner.
"The house has historical significance not from the whale-ship captain who built it, Obed Swain, but from his wife, Harriet Swain. Harriet was a Petticoat Whaler, one of the few woman who accompanied their husbands on the ship during whaling voyages".
