About this property
Covered Bridge house plus cabin (Big Walnut Creek)
About this space
Retreat to this charming creekside house plus one-room cabin where historic Bakers Camp Covered Bridge spans Big Walnut Creek. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath house has all the amenities, like a deck overlooking the creek, outfitted kitchen, and smart TVs. The cabin is cozy and private, with a microwave, mini-fridge, electric kettle, and water dispenser in the kitchenette, and port-a-potty (FAIR WEATHER ONLY), fire pit, and porch outside. (See Bakers Camp Covered Bridge Creekside Retreat for house only.)
The space
Special features of the MAIN HOUSE include a master bedroom with wooden vaulted ceiling and small deck; another bedroom with a writer's desk against a picture window; a relaxing claw-foot tub in one bathroom; a rustic den with decorative stone fireplace and PS4, opening into a small screened-in porch on one wall and the deck overlooking the creek on another. (This is our home, so please accept a few family photos and personal items here and there.)
You'll find lush surroundings on all sides, towering sycamores, a two-level deck with dining table, umbrellas, and lounge chairs, a basketball hoop over the concrete driveway and a fire pit in the back yard--all fronting Big Walnut Creek. The wide creek is great for fishing, swimming, and exploring, with an area to load kayaks in or out just over the bridge. Blue heron, hawks, bald eagles, barred owls, and more bird species than you can name frequent the property.
The one-room CABIN is a couple of minutes' walk from (and out of view of) the house. Its raw poplar walls make it smell sweet, and trees on three sides (along with ceiling, box, and window fans) help keep it cool in summer. In winter, it's snug and warm. This quiet, secluded cabin is located up a little hill on a larger property that has a main house further down the driveway. But cabin guests give up nothing in privacy. The cabin, closer to where the covered bridge spans the creek, is tucked securely in the woods.
The cabin contains a single bed by a picture window, as well as an inflatable mattress (along with pillows, sheets, blankets and towels); a large desk, a small tv with a collection of dvd's, a writing electric typewriter, and shelves of books and games. There's a toilet hidden by a screen and a sink with hot/cold water. The kitchenette area offers a mini-fridge, microwave, and water dispenser, along with glasses, mugs, disposable eating utensils and tableware, tea and instant coffee, etc. Outside, there's a little front porch with two chairs and small table, an outdoor shower, a grill, and a fire pit. (There is no wi-fi in the cabin, and you must walk up a rise to access it.)
Guest access
Guests have full access to the creek and five-acre, mostly wooded property, as well as to the wide open mowed area across the bridge, from which you can either fish, kayak, swim in the deeper water under the bridge, or access a pebbly beach, perfect for playing, skipping rocks, wading, and exploring. The parking area will accommodate three or four cars for the house and one for the cabin.
Other things to note
Please note: the majority of the Air Bnb amenities listed are in the main house. The cabin amenities are discussed in other areas of the listing, including "The Space" section.
