About this property
Secluded cottage! Amazing Views Whiteface Mtn & High Peaks! Great all 4 seasons!
Affordable Relaxing Getaway! Beautiful 3 bedroom cottage on 18 acres!
Now with high-speed internet thanks to our newly installed satellite (June 2020 and upgraded 2023).
Super CLEAN. Cleaning lady is amazing and long time family friend. We still leave 24 hours between guests.
Come enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains!
Whiteface Mountain and Santa's Workshop are just 10 miles from house.
Jay covered bridge and swim holes are within walking distance.
OUR HOME: Our renovated grandfather's home is located on 18 acres on a peaceful back road in Jay, NY. Relax on the deck overlooking the 180 degree views of the Adirondack High Peaks. Walk our trails in the woods behind our house or play in the yard (i.e., baseball and frisbee or sledding down the hill in the winter). Roast marshmallows over the fire in our fire pit in the woods (strict fire safety rules apply & no fires in drought seasons).
PRICE DETAILS (see more descriptions of costs/fees below):
$195 - 199 per night - varies slightly per VRBO automated system.
Cleaning fee shown as $100, but $50 is a refundable trash deposit, making sure that guests remove trash and recycling. Sorry there is no curb-side trash pick-up in this beautiful country location.
*Holiday weekends have three night minimum.
Additional VRBO service fee and taxes apply.
Note: If you have a dog, ask us if you can bring the dog. We charge an extra $100 pet fee for the extra deep cleaning required after your stay. We like to keep a low allergen home and don't often accept pets. We like to discourage it, but talk with the owner to see if your one well-behaved dog will be okay. We have rules: no dogs on beds or fleece blankets, no dogs left alone in house unless in a crate, wipe down dogs after being outside (bring old towels or use our older towels), and no dogs on furniture. Clean up after dogs when they are going to the bathroom outside. We have carpet, so please be super careful.
Longer rentals:
Ask about discounts for rentals over 7 days. Or for my repeat customers!
MORE HOUSE DETAILS:
Come relax and recharge with the views, that Adirondack smell, and the peace/quiet.
Front porch and back deck with plenty of outdoor furniture, small & large charcoal grills, lounge chairs. Front log porch is great for a cup of coffee as the sun is rising over the mountain.
INTERNET:
Yes, we have it! Finally, after years of looking for a rural solution. We installed a Satellite June 24, 2020. Then, we super charged it in 2023 with changing to HughesNet. Satellite can be affected by bad weather, though. You will have high-speed internet connection throughout the house. Password will be at the house.
BEDS:
Master bedroom with plush-deep queen mattress,
two twins in 2nd bedroom,
double/full size bed in 3rd bedroom.
COMFORTS
include new log porch facing morning sun, with a rain chain that will soothe even if it is a rainy day. Full kitchen with all the amenities, new sofa and power recliner, realistic electric fireplace, powerful Toyotomi heater (new in 11/2019), DVD/VCR player, lots of movies and games, CD/radio doc, dishwasher and Electrolux front loading washer and dryer (new in 8/2019).
Open floor plan between kitchen, dining room, and living room. Dining room table fits at least 6 people.
BABY-PROOFED
house with supplies: plug covers, cabinet locks, Graco travel crib (with bassinet attachment for babies and fits toddlers up to 35 inches tall), high chair, and toddler life-jacket. Kid-friendly house with kids movies, games, toys, sled, beach toys, baseball bats, balls, frisbees and more.
TRAILS & ACTIVITIES
Hike, snow shoe or cross-country ski on our trails behind house.
Jay Mountain wilderness trails are close-by (<5 minute drive).
Walking distance to: world-renowned Ausable River for fly-fishing, historic Jay covered bridge, park/playground, swim hole by waterfalls at covered bridge, Jay gazebo where they hold concerts in the park in the summer, and JEMS Theater. (Note: East Branch of the Ausable River is within walking distance, and the West Branch of the Ausable River is a very short drive. Lots of fishing info under TV at house or ask owner).
Only 10 minutes to Wilmington for more swimming at the public beach (town beach at Lake Everest), Whiteface Memorial Highway, Santa's Workshop, and world-class skiing at Whiteface - featuring the largest vertical drop in the Northeast.
Cross-country ski centers (Cascade/ADK and Mount Van Hoevenberg Complex) are a 20 minute drive away, and on our own property. Snow shoeing too.
Lake Placid (home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics) is less than 25 minutes away.
Drive in the other direction to see the Ausable Chasm (10 minutes). Check out Ferries.com for area ferries across Lake Champlain.
Foodies will be satisfied: there are lots of new family-run farms in area with cheese, milk, eggs, chicken, beef, sausage, bacon, etc. Keene farmer's market is on Sundays, starting mid-June. I will send you a list of farms and farmer's markets.
WHAT OUR PREVIOUS VACATIONERS HAVE SAID:
'This place is so easy to live in.'
'Splendid home! Wonderful views and tranquility. House is well- equipped and we appreciate all your efforts in providing useful information.'
'Thank you for the wonderful secluded cottage!!!'
'It is so good to be back at your home in the ADKs, and to find so many new amenities, especially the couch.'
'We were in such desperate need of R&R and this house gave us so much peace.'
'The breeze on the porch and lawn is absolutely pacifying and replenishing.'
FINALLY, I want to be transparent with costs/fees. Here they are again:
-$195-199 per night (VRBO automated variability).
-$50 refundable trash fee, which will be returned to you when we see that you have removed all trash and recycling at the end of your stay. Sorry for no curbside pickup in the wilderness!
-$50 cleaning fee: for use of our linens and for the extra time the cleaning lady needs to do your laundry. I can wave that fee if you are bringing all your own linens, as that is a lot less time for my cleaning lady. But please make sure to leave the house in good-clean condition, as that cleaning fee goes towards her cleaning time too.
-Sorry for the VRBO service fee, as I cannot remove that.
-If you are thinking about bringing a dog, then send me an inquiry and talk with me first. We have to be very careful with allowing dogs to help keep our home low allergen and low scent. (We like to use a scent-free and environmental products to clean.)
There is a $100 pet fee if your pet is allowed to come for the extra deep cleaning that the cleaning lady will have to do.
-Damage Protection:
Homeaway offers a great low cost property damage protection. You pay only $59 dollars for $1500 worth of protection.
I also like to give discounts on additional nights added to a rental last minute (like when you realize you just can't leave). Of course these are per availability.
Discounts for repeat renters and longer renters too (discount for 7+ days and bigger discount for 28+ days)!
When you book, I provide so much info on house and tourist info of area. I am here to help make your trip safe and enjoyable.
Thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Karen & David
This house was built by my grandparents in the 60's to retire in the peace and serenity of the Adirondacks. My grandfather loved to fish and hunt. My grandmother loved how the mountains looked different every time she looked out the window. The house was passed down to my parents and now to me. I named the 2 maple trees out front Grandma and Grandpa!
We are dedicated to making this house a comfortable and affordable gettaway.
We want to keep the prices affordable so that people can experience nature from their doorstep, looking out and seeing no other house around. What I love about the Adirondacks is the smell! So fresh. And the stars at night - what a Milky Way!

Why they chose this property
We have lots of windows to enjoy the 180 degree views of the mountains, including Jay Mountain wilderness and Whiteface Mountain. There are minimal visible neighbors. Quiet gettaway.
