The unit has real strengths on paper: a well-designed layout, working appliances, a well-stocked kitchen, an easy walk to the beach, and a location directly across from VanDerMeer Tennis Academy. It is also pet-friendly. We wanted to like this booking.The actual stay did not deliver on the listing. We documented mold in the kitchen HVAC vent, mold colonies inside the coffee maker, contaminated refrigerator gaskets, and multiple cleaning failures throughout the unit. When we raised these concerns with the on-site property manager, she acknowledged the problems on multiple recorded calls and proactively relocated us to a second property, citing her own asthma and her concern about our son's reactive airway disorder.The second property had its own significant mold contamination — visible growth on the kitchen HVAC supply vent and structural moisture intrusion at the exterior walls. We left the booking early on health and safety grounds.After our departure, the property manager's communication reversed: her earlier acknowledgments became denials, and her tone became personal. We pursued the matter through Vrbo's Book with Confidence Guarantee and through our card issuers. We received full refunds for the entire booking.Future guests should ask specific written questions before booking about who manages the property day-to-day, what the cleaning protocol is between guests, whether duct cleaning is current, and how HVAC moisture issues are being addressed.
