About this property

Birds’ Nest Bungalow

Looking for a cozy winter getaway? Escape to Birds’ Nest Bungalow! This charming vintage 3-bedroom cottage is nestled along a creek with a series of low waterfalls behind it. You will feel transported the moment you hear the hush of the falls. The storybook setting is private and lush. Ideal for couples who enjoy their space, small families or group of friends seeking a city escape. Located 2 hrs north of NYC - between Hudson and Great Barrington - it’s the perfect perch to discover all that the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires have to offer.

The main living area is open and inviting. The living room seating is centered around an original river stone fireplace. There is a new Samsung Serif smart TV as well as a sound system to connect to through your phone. The long wood dining table seats 6 quite comfortably.

The kitchen is equipped with a Viking gas stovetop and electric Dacor oven. It is stocked with herbs, spices, baking basics, and appliances galore - with everything from a stand mixer to a soda stream. There is counter top dining for two and everything you need to rustle up a delicious dinner. Additionally, there is a charming breakfast nook with seating for two where you can enjoy your coffee and croissants.

The downstairs bathroom has lovely bluestone floors and a vintage cast iron roll-top tub. Full laundry facilities are behind the yellow gingham curtain.

Upstairs are 3 cozy bedrooms and a bathroom. The primary bedroom with a queen bed faces the creek. Listen to the hush of the falls as you fall asleep with the windows open. The second bedroom has a full size bed and the third is a sleeping nook with a twin bed and views of the surrounding woods.

There’s a dedicated work from home setting on the landing with a long desk and high speed wifi.

Downstairs, there are two porches on opposite sides of the house. The charming little screened porch at the front of the house gets lovely afternoon light - perfect for relaxing with a book and a cup of tea. The covered back deck faces the creek and is an absolutely magical setting for summer dinners. There is a new Weber gas grill and the dining area comfortably seats six. Enjoy the woodland views by the creek on the Adirondack chairs or hang by the fire pit and immerse yourselves in the birdsong and tranquillity.

*please note the air conditioning are window units. There is a unit in the living room that does a moderate job of cooling the downstairs and a unit in the smallest bedroom that cools the second floor. However, one of the greatest pleasures of your stay will surely be falling asleep with the windows open and waking to the hush of the falls and birds singing.

The village of Chatham, NY is 10 minutes down the road and has a wonderful old style movie theater, book shop, knitting shop, cheese shop, liquor store, and more. With restaurants like the People’s Pub and the newly opened Bimi’s Canteen and Bar you may never leave Chatham. For the the best croissant and baguette outside of Paris, Bartlett House in Ghent is only 10 minutes away - don’t leave without a donut!

We are located 25 minutes from the fab towns of Hudson, NY and Great Barrington, MA both of which have wonderful main streets for strolling, shopping, and dining.

The Berkshire arts scene comes alive in the summer with Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, Williamstown Theater Festival, MassMoca, the Clark Museum.

For book lovers there is Rodger’s Book Barn in Hillsdale, NY (an experience not to be missed), Spotty Dog Books & Ale in Hudson, and Familiar Trees in Great Barrington.

Oh, you like to hike? For an easy jaunt take the pond loop at Schor Conservation Area 2 miles up the road. For a slightly grander hike, head to Ooms Conservation Area. This little jewel of Columbia County, is a 10 minute drive from the cottage. High Falls, Bash Bish Falls… the list goes on.

Enjoy your stay!!

So quaint, great for nature adventures!
The property is so quaint. Located on a small waterfall and stream, the location is serene and peaceful. While the house is small, it is more than large enough for a group of 4-5. We spent more time on hikes than on the property but had we chosen to just ‘chill’, we would’ve enjoyed it just as much. Great (small) kitchen where we made meals as restaurants etc a bit of a drive away. Slept great w no noise, perfectly dark nights uninterrupted by lights and comfy beds!

Cozy Winter Stay
Cozy, charming house with beautiful artwork, furnishings, decor but not overly fussy. Our family of 4 had a delightful time sitting by the fire and cooking in the well-appointed kitchen. Plenty of skiing and hiking nearby along with groceries, drugstore, etc. in Chatham 15 mins away. Hudson and Great Barrington also not far. Caarin was an amazing host, providing all the info we needed about the house and the area. Loved the bungalow so much we’ve already booked our next stay!

Wonderfully charming house!
Our stay was everything we wanted — relaxing, trouble-free, and fabulous! Caarin is very helpful and responsive to any questions, and the property is so peaceful and charming. We loved sitting out back overlooking the stream with the waterfalls. The sound of the running water is very zen-like. The house really felt like home once we settled in; very comfortable and rustic. Loved, loved, LOVED our stay! Thank you, Caarin, for giving us this opportunity. Jim and Sue
