My family had a wonderful time at the Chalet at the lake. The lakefront area was great and the house was spacious and accommodating for all 8 of us, but there are a few issues we thought should be public for future guests:
-The pots and pans provided are scratched and have Teflon peeling off - bring your own!
-There are no hand towels in the bathroom, no dish towels in the kitchen, and no soap in the showers.
-The supply of paper towels and toilet paper was insufficient.
-Some of the pictures show a ladder on the dock, but there wasn’t one. This prevented some of us from enjoying the lake because we weren’t able to jump in or hoist ourselves out.
-There are 2 kayaks but not the blue ones pictured and one of them is missing a seat back which made it difficult to use.
All in all, we felt we didn’t fully get what we paid for. If these issues were fixed we would definitely come back! Sleepy Hollow lake is just beautiful !
This was the second time we stayed at this property. The pros of this property include space and location on the lake. The host let us check in an hour early and they allowed us to have guests over for dinner. The cons of this property were greater the second time and we unfortunately will not rent this property again. The property has areas that are not well kept (Mold in the shower, dock stairs that are unsafe although the host said they were fixed from our last visit, outside areas that are not kept up (I spent some time sweeping the areas) garbage left in house and outside (which was taken care of the next day), old coffee grounds left in coffee pot, broken seat on kayak, kayaks were very moldy. ) The host did not leave the bracelets or fob to use the community pool and tennis courts so we were not able to access them. We rented specifically for use of these. We reached out to the host multiple times, but they did not follow through and even just stopped responding altogether even when VRBO tried to reach them. The host stated they were travelling in Asia, but nonetheless, if I paid on time and in full for a property with listed amenities, I feel it is their responsibility to provide support and all amenities listed. They sent a young person to the house the first morning we were there who said they would be back in 30 minutes with bracelets. This left me feeling optimistic, but we did not see or hear from them for the remaining 3 days we were there.
We walked into the house and were greeted by a bowl of discarded cigarette butts and a charcoal barbecue filled to the brim with used charcoal and cigar butts. The outdoor furniture was filthy as was the deck. When we entered the house - we found cobwebs everywhere and dead bugs which had been squished on the walls. Food was under the seat cushions in the living room. The toaster oven was filthy inside. The garbage cans in the kitchen were left with old garbage in them. The furniture in the bedroom was filthy inside the drawers so no one unpacked. One of the group was so grossed out she left and spent a lot of extra money on a clean hotel room. There were no top sheets on the beds, so we slept directly under the comforters not sure they had ever been washed. There were no extra blankets, no extra pillows, no soap for the showers and there was exactly 1 washcloth for the 8 of us. To say we did not get what we paid for is an understatement. We have all rented many VRBO's and never had this experience. We reached out to the property manager, and he said he would contact the cleaning service. We did hear back from him and we sent pictures of all the dirt. We expected the cleaning crew to come back, but they didn't.
Today, the property manager said the cleaning fee would be refunded. We don't feel that is enough.
