*SPECIAL WINTER RATE!* Contact us to request a special rate from January through April 2024. We offer 15% off for stays of 7 days or longer. And 30% off for stays of 28 days or longer! Just ask!

Our guest apartment is located in the charming west village of Charlotte, Vermont. You’ll find stunning views of the Adirondacks, sunsets, and Lake Champlain. 1,100 sq ft and a fully outfitted kitchen! Located in the center of our farming community, we’re across the street from the Old Brick (general) Store; down the street from the Old Lantern, the ferry to NY, Lake Champlain, and Mt. Philo; and within an easy drive to Burlington and ski areas. Our year-round guest house is perfect for a Vermont getaway! *Professional photos to come fall 2023.*

Originally a summer kitchen for our c1805 Federal village home, the Wheeler House Guest Apartment is a comfortable space for anyone to enjoy. Original timber beams throughout bring a cozy vibe to the open space. You’ll find western views of the Adirondack Mountains, sunsets, and Lake Champlain just out the back windows—especially visible from the second floor!

The first-floor open living space boasts a kitchen with butcher-block countertops, an induction cooktop range, and a quiet Bosch dishwasher. It’s stocked with all the dishes, cookware, bakeware, knives, and utensils you would need. Need a unique tool for cooking? We probably have it in our main house—just ask! A dining table and comfortable seating area with TV complete the first floor. Enjoy a small deck with a bistro table for two just outside French doors.

The second floor is a large open space with both a king bed and a twin day bed with trundle. A raised queen air mattress is available for you to use. Located off the room is a bathroom with shower stall, washer, and dryer. We have plenty of towels and linens.

In the warm months, there is a window air conditioning unit for the first floor and one for the second floor. A ceiling fan on the second floor will keep the air moving any time of year.

Our backyard is a series of pastures and hills. Down the hill a bit is a flat area for picnics. No pesticides are used on the property! You’ll find a massive blackberry patch ready to pick in late July or early August. From August until the first freeze, there are plenty of dahlias to pick. Enjoy sage, mint, and whatever other herbs might be growing out your backdoor for cooking.

Guests will have full access to the guest apartment. You'll also have full access to the three acres of grounds.

Additional details….
The guest apartment has its own entrance, but that entrance shares a small, covered entry-porch with the main house. We provide a kitchen fully stocked with all the kitchen tools you will likely need, as well as salt and pepper; we don’t provide cooking or baking ingredients at this time (unless previous guests leave behind shelf-stable, unopened jars or cans).

The hills and pasture behind our house are stunning but the gardens are always a work in progress—they are not perfect! The house is located along a ridge so some locations of our back yard are a steep pitch, but there is a nice flat space for picnics.

Since we are located in the center of a thriving farming community, farm vehicles of all sizes will drive by our house at any hour—day or night (especially during hay harvesting!). In addition, we are located on a fairly busy corner—traffic to and from a ferry will increase the noise level in the backyard. We have our pasture mowed weekly—the landscape crew comes early to mid morning. And at any given time on the weekends, you might find my husband JD on his tractor out back, our children selling lemonade, or any one of us working in the gardens.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in hustle and bustle of our little community, our guest apartment is perfect for you!

We are a busy family of five. And we just brought home a new puppy! Our children and the puppy are all very friendly. We are often coming and going but we strive to minimize any disruption to your stay. As a host, my husband JD and I will make ourselves as available as possible to you should you need us. If we will be away during any part of your stay, we will let you know in advance. A detailed house book will be made available to you.

We are at the center of our rural farming community, just across from the famous Old Brick Store (under new management as of august 2023 but currently closed for renovations; will update here when open). Our neighborhood is full of historic homes. The town library, senior center, town hall, post office, and Stones Throw Pizza are less than a block away.

We have plenty of parking in our driveway. It’s a short walk to a few amenities, but a vehicle will be necessary to explore beyond our small village.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a wife, mother, and publisher. We moved to Vermont in 2018 to be closer to my sister and her family. We bought our historic home in 2021 and are slowly renovating and restoring it. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do! … We owned and self-managed an Airbnb property on the coast of Massachusetts for two years. As a host, we were proud to maintain a perfect 5-star rating and super host status for the entire two years.

Why they chose this property

We love living at the very center of our rural farming community.

What makes this property unique

Our location is in the center of our little historic village.
