Porto da Cruz Holiday Cottage

A holiday cottage for 2 People for rent in a village, 1 km from the Atlantic Ocean, on the north coast of Madeira.
An ideal place for surfers and those who want to do mountain hiking, levada (mini-canals) walks, fishing, rural tourism... It's on the slope of a 590m high mountain called Penha d'Aguia. From the house, you can see the sea and green mountains, and you can hear the brook at night...
This cottage has 1 bedroom (one double), a living room, an equipped kitchen/dining room, a shower and WC downstairs and another WC upstairs. Washing machine available. There's Wi-Fi internet. In the garden there is parking space for a car, and a typical Madeiran sitting area with stone benches or plastic chairs that you can take outside.
I cannot accept booking requests when the day of your arrival is on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Porto da Cruz Cottage

Clean and tidy with everything which we needed for our stay. Plenty of information on hand for visitors not familiar with the island. The village is pleasant with a choice of places to eat, and in practice nowhere is too far away on Madeira. The property is characterful, nicely situated, and well maintained

The property and hosted were outstanding. My only issue is the Vrbo IT - was there was a scammer operating WITHIN the APP. Almost lost most of my payment for cottage

Truly delightful.

The hosts?extremely courteous, friendly, helpful and informative, even coming back to rescue us after we had managed to get lost. The house? Everything any couple would need to spend relaxing week or more, truly a 'home from home' the view from the terrace is delightful, and the sound of Church bells and Cockrels is especially relaxing and watching the surfers is a hoot. The location? Porto Da Cruz is a charming seaside village with a local shop and plenty of places to eat out at very reasonable rates ( even for vegetarians) As our first visit to Maderia, things couldn't have been better. An easy five star rating.

Good house but complicated host

The house has a historic charme and is still functional but not in a perfect manner - the oven is not easy to use and the equipment is not abundant. The view to the sea is really stunning and we enjoyed dining on the terrace with this view. Due to the age, the house is a little complicated so that a self check-in is not possible. And this caused a big problem for us, since the host required that we be at the house at noon already which would have made us loosing a full day of vacation according to our plans doing sightseeing on the way from the first to the second accomodation. While we were still negotiating how to come to a good solution, the host canceled the first day without our consent, and we did only not get into trouble because the host of the previous accomodation let us stay one day longer. Finally, we found a good check-in time for both parties, but one day later. There was no person in the neighborhood who could help. The host appeared rather suspicious and bureaucratic. The location is nice, but you must be a very experienced driver to get to this house: The road is very narrow and steep, and also parking at the house is not easy. The site is perfect to visit Eastern and Northern Madeira, since you can reach everything within half an hour by car. It is also very quiet (except for nature sounds). We enjoyed our stay in the house but would not book it again due to the trouble with the host who was not a reliable contracting partner to us.

Sir, you knew there was no self check in at my property! Why did you insist on what you know that it was not possible? This not an hotel with a 24 hour reception, it's a private property owned by a owner (not a garçon) who needs to make time to receive his guests! I told you several times when I could meet you for check-in during the day but you only wanted to meet me at night.

Charmantes Häuschen mit Blick aufs Meer

In Blickweite zum Meer haben wir für eine Woche im Elternhaus von Aurelio gewohnt. Im Erdgeschoß Küche, Wohnzimmer und Bad, im 1. Stock das geräumige Schlafzimmer. Für uns zu zweit jede menge Platz um auch mal einen regnierischen Tag zu verbringen. Wie auf Madeira üblich wird mit Gas gekocht und geheizt. Nicht ganz trivial ist die Anfahrt per Navi de Google mit den engen Straßen seine Probleme hat. Dank Aurelio dem Host hat dann aber doch alles wunderbar geklappt. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Une petite maison de vacances très sympathique, dans un quartier calme et reposant. Tout ce dont on a besoin après une journée de balade, rando ou visite. Les propriétaires sont d'une gentillesse incroyable. Ils n'hésitent pas à vous conseiller. Tout est mis à votre disposition dès votre arrivée. Nous avons passé un séjour super agréable.

Gunstig gelegen vakantiehuisje voor wandelingen

Eenvoudig maar knus vakantiehuisje met gezellige woonkeuken en uitzicht op zee. Het huisje ligt aan een oude verbindingsweg naar Porta da Cruz. Een kronkelig weggetje, sfeervol omringd door bloemrijke huisjes met kleine 'moestuintjes' en bananenbomen. Vanuit het huisje kun je hele mooie levada - maar ook- bergwandelingen maken, m.n. vanuit Santana. Het zijn echte' high lights'. In Santana kun je meteen je boodschappen halen bij de Continenten, een grote supermarkt. Porta da Cruz is een klein kustdorpje waar je kunt zwemmen, verse broodjes halen en kunt eten met uitzicht op zee. Onze verhuurder (Sietske en Aurelio) zijn zeer gastvrij en willen je graag informeren over Madeira en alle bezienswaardigheden.

Wir hatten eine tolle Woche in diesem Haus! Sietske und Aurelio haben uns alles rund ums Haus und im Haus ausführlich erklärt und waren auch während unseren Aufenthalts um unser Wohlbefinden besorgt. Das Haus und die Küche sind gut ausgestattet, wir konnten jeden Abend kochen wonach wir Lust hatten und haben uns immer sehr wohl gefühlt.

Comfortable hill-side cottage

Warm welcome from the hosts, who were very helpful with suggestions and even drove in front of us to show us where the local supermarket was. The walking from the village was very good indeed, and we enjoyed exploring Madeira from our base.

Great location

We really enjoyed our stay here, the location was fabulous just a short walk from the village with plenty of places to eat and drink. As Maderia is a relatively small island we found that we get everywhere very quickly from Porto da Cruz. Fabulous views from the cottage, dramatic landscape all around and the sea too, would recommend for a stay.

Ein angenehmes kleines Ferienhaus mit sehr netten Vermietern

Um zum Haus zu gelangen, muss man einen recht steilen Berg hochlaufen, dafür wird man dann aber auch mit einem wirklich tollen Ausblick auf das Meer von der Terrasse aus belohnt. Zum Frühstücken sehr zu empfehlen! Es ist ein Ort der Ruhe und Erholung, hält alles bereit, was man für den Alltag so benötigt, und viele schöne Wanderwege sind von Porto da Cruz aus sehr gut zu erreichen. Die freundlichen Vermieter Aurelio und Sietske haben uns sehr nett empfangen und haben uns schon vor der Reise sehr geholfen und uns viele gute Tipps gegeben, sodass wir uns gut zurecht gefunden haben. Wir haben unseren Urlaub zu zweit sehr genossen.

Maison fonctionnelle et agréable

En bordure de Porto da cruz , cette maison fonctionnelle propose un lieu calme , accueillant et proche (en voiture) des randonnées ( pico ruivo , levadas le chaudron vert...) . Aurais je oublié de vous parler des propriétaires toujours souriant et prompt à vous prodiguer conseils et propositions de visites. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié ces quelques jours apportant encore une nouvelle facette à Madere.

We are a Portuguese/ Dutch couple. Year after year this cottage has been the main holiday destination for us as a family. We love this island, the pleasant climate, the beautiful nature and the friendly people.

Why they chose this property

The property was remodeled in 1993 by my father-in-law. It became ours in 2000 and in 2012 some friends who visited us gave us the idea to start renting it out to travelers, who love the countryside of Madeira, rather than staying in tourist resorts.
We hope that you will enjoy this place as much as we do!

What makes this property unique

What makes this house special to us is the unique location, close to the mountains and to the Ocean. The walls of this cottage are very thick and made out of rocks, as houses were made in the old days. They don't make these kind of houses anymore in Portugal. Inside the cottage there's a lot of pine wood: floors, ceilings, window sills, shutters, stairs, furniture etc.
