About this property

The house of id; a disability-friendly space

The house of id is a place to stay, shop, and take part.

Stay. Id's design is informed by our firsthand experience of living with a chronic/invisible illness. To us, accessibility means joy at your fingertips; and participation without overexertion. Unmask.

Shop. We did the legwork, filling the house with buyable treasures. Live with the pieces you love. Then take them home.

Take Part. Some of the house is experiential. Change hardware. Move art. Bake for the community. Get involved.

Whether you walk or wheel into id, the first thing you will notice is the happy, retro color palette. Our space is designed to evoke joy and to be an ever-changing canvas filled with treasures. *Some of the artwork in our space contains female nudity.
The grow room is where most of our resident plants live. It is a place to read, chat, relax and soak in the sun through the skylights.

Moving into the main area, everything you need to be comfortable is on this level. There is a kitchen equipped with baking and cooking appliances, a guest wall art installation, and an extendable vintage table for activities.

The two bedrooms on this level each have their own ductless mini splits so you have complete control over the temperature in your sleep space. Our queen bed room has an adjustable bed and room to pull in your transport wheelchair if you need one.

The main floor full bath can go from a step free shower to a tub. Just let us know if you need this amenity.

Close the saloon doors in the vestibule for some extra privacy from the living area when it's time for bed.

Before you wander upstairs, head out front for the best 3 season porch ever created. Lie in our hammock, eat at the outdoor dining table, or sit around eating pastries on the couch.

If you are able to walk upstairs, you will find a flex space for yoga, meditation, or book reading. There is a small refrigerator up there for snacks, drinks, and medication storage.
If you walk through our peony pink hallway, you will arrive at the upstairs bedroom. This has a cozy, log cabin feel and a four-poster bed. There is an attached full bathroom with a huge, sunny shower complete with a seat.

Did we mention we have a pool? It is open from June-August and is level with the driveway so it affords our guests step free access.

The whole house is yours to explore. There are a couple of closets that we have clearly marked as just for owners. So unless you want old tiles and empty paint cans, no need to go in.

We don't allow use of our garage, except under special circumstances. You can reach out to us if this is a need you have.

*If you need any of our accessibility amenities, like ramps, transport wheelchair, rollator, or use of our chairlift, please message us or head over to thehouseofid dot com to fill out our accessibility form.

We are building a community with the house of id. We want to offer the space to guests who will honor our mission to give people who might not otherwise have access to this kind of creative energy a chance to experience some real joy. To learn more about us and the house of id, you can visit our site at thehouseofid dot com.

About the host

Hosted by Dara and Paige Adams

Host profile image
We are a Mom (Dara) and Daughter (Paige) duo who took our life experiences of being disabled (Paige) and being a caregiver to a person with a disability (Dara) and created a place where people like us could grab joy by the balls. Happily, the house of id is a place where joy’s balls are accessible to folks like us, sort of on a lower shelf next to a grab bar. You get the idea. We love hosting folks who might otherwise not have access to this kind of experience. We are also super responsive to our guests because that is what we would want!

Why they chose this property

In all honesty, Norwood chose us. We found the house before we knew about the town, and what an amazing town it is. The location puts our guests squarely at the corner of fun and accessibility. There are vintage shops within 2 miles, all of which have free, up close and personal parking. There is great medical care right down the road at Beth Israel (and soon our own hospital) and transportation into the city is as easy as it gets.

What makes this property unique

Our mission involves greater accessibility within the disability community. Accessibility means many different things to many different people. To the house of id, it means easier access to joy and fulfillment.
- Participating in group activities without overexertion
- Freedom to create and explore in an exciting and ever-changing environment
- Visiting a space carefully and considerately designed by someone with firsthand experience of an invisible / chronic illness
- Joining a larger community of passionate creatives
- Feeling included and celebrated without being singled out
- Engaging in a space for humor, togetherness, and acceptance. And design!

AND SHOPPING!! The treasures in the house are for sale!!
