Host cancelled our reservation the day of check in via a message in the VRBO app. Even though our reservation was confirmed by the host at booking and communicated to us as confirmed. The host stated they had double booked the property and the other guests had already arrived and checked in.
Though I understand accidents happen and hosts may use multiple booking sites to list their property, I find it hard to understand that the mistake couldn’t have been caught sooner than the day of checkin. Especially considering myself, husband and three kids had flown from Louisiana to Chicago already and now were left without our lodging and waiting several days for a refund to be processed.
We were fortunate enough to have additional funds so we could obtain a hotel for our stay, but I know that may not be the case for all travelers.
The host was apologetic, however, as they stated this has happened to them before I would have expected them to be more diligent about their bookings and confirmations.
