Perfect family home with beautiful views and charm!

We wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us. It was the perfect place for our family to celebrate our oldest daughter's graduation. Every detail of your home added something special to the occasion—from the stunning garden to the lovely piano, which made a wonderful backdrop for entertainment and photos. Our children, ranging from ages 3 to 18, kept saying how much they wanted to stay longer. Our youngest even said, “Mommy, I just love our new home.” That says it all! Your effort in preserving the original charm of the home is so evident and deeply appreciated. We truly loved every moment and hope to return again someday. Thank you for making this milestone so memorable for our family. With gratitude,The DeClue CrewChatGPT can mak

Another Amazing Experience

We are third time guests at the Davis House and the home grows even better with each stay. From the well-appointed kitchen, walking distance to Glen Ellyn's charming town center, proximity to the trains into Chicago, the Davis House is a delightful home away from home. William's hospitality is an added gift!

Beautiful house!

This is a beautiful, spacious house! Spent most of our time in the kitchen area which was a nice space. William was also very responsive and helpful during the whole process. If you are goIng during the winter, the front steps get VERY slippery when it snows.

Glen Ellyn Gem

This lovely historic home was perfect for my husband and I and our 2 dogs. The house was beautiful but very comfortable and very well equipped for people and pets! The neighborhood was fantastic for walking and we were within walking distance of downtown Glen Ellyn. As previous Glen Ellyn residents (for 20 years) it fit our needs perfectly. The month flew by and we hated to leave!

Perfect for a birthday weekend

Five of us stayed overnight at the house, and 5 additional joined us one evening for a birthday dinner which we catered in. The house, as per the description, is vintage with vintage furnishings and ornamentation. Appliances and heating/cooling are updated and work well. We returned to Glen Ellyn for this weekend (after living there for 23 years and moving away 2 years ago. It was great to be back. William was a very good host—helpful without being intrusive. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely, comfortable house

We had a great time. There is an outlet in the smallest bedroom that doesn't work. (the one on the outside wall) It would be helpful to mark this, since it is the one most likely to be used for charging a cellphone.

Wonderful Stay

William was a class act host from start to finish. My wife and I booked this as a place to stay after our wedding since it was close to the venue and William surprised us with a gift basket, a bottle of wine and a hand written note congratulating us. From start to finish William was communicative and made sure that all of our needs were met and went beyond to provide us such exceptional service. We will definitely stay here again when we need a place to stay in Glen Ellyn. I couldn’t imagine a better experience. Such a clean and beautiful house in a great and safe neighborhood! Pictures don’t do justice for how great this house/property is!

Amazing!

I have rented houses, apartments, condos and townhomes all over the world through Airbnb, VRBO and Homeway. This house was by far the *very* best. It is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. It has lovely gardens, a homey front porch, lovely rear deck with a gas grill, 3 beautifully appointed bedrooms and a spacious first floor with music room, library, TV room, sitting room and huge well-equipped kitchen. William was very responsive and easy to work with. If you need a house in the western suburbs, look no further - this is the place!

Perfect charming home

This is a warm and comfortable home with a kitchen that is truly the heart of the house. We had 8 people and the table accommodated us all. The owner decorated it beautifully for Christmas. The piano filled the house with music for great evenings and the fireplace was perfect. Our family created many great memories here for Christmas. Beds were comfortable. Sleeping our group of 8 required using a pull-out couch, which was fine. The location is quiet and not far from lovely Glen Ellyn town. William was thoughtful and made sure we were comfortable during a particularly bad winter storm. Great stay! Beautiful home!

Fireplace Glory

Dreary rainy weather did not impact our stay one bit. A lovely stay-cation outside of the city with a beautiful clean large kitchen, warm cozy family room, TV/movies, WOOD-BURNING fires, adorable friendly town with great restaurants and shops. My dog was in heaven with the quiet neighborhood, nearby parks and lake and warm fires. One of the bathroom sinks had a minor leak and within minutes of my arrival, the owner informed me of the issue and coordinated a time for the plumber to come. This owner cares and is very considerate!! Easy check in and check out. Already rebooked another trip....seriously. If you work hard, long days in the city this is a perfect retreat for you, friends and your dog, without having to travel very far.

Spectacular house in gorgeous neighborhood

We loved this house so much, from the porch to every room and outdoor space is so beautiful! I never wanted to leave the upstairs parlor, what a stunning room! We were lucky enough to experience the first snow of the year, and with the fall colors was amazing. The upstairs bath is a dream, wow what a tub and shower. Beds and linens are super. The light fixtures and antiques all around the house are so nice to look at. So unique. I loved the Bose speakers in the front sitting room, the radio station was already set to a classical station and that was a bonus. The kitchen and amenities, dimmable lighting and comfort are top notch. We loved all the fall decorations, gardens, nice treats and welcoming card from the owner was so thoughtful. Thank you for sharing this house we had an incredible time!

Cannot Pass This Place Up!

The Davis House is absolutely amazing! We booked this house for our recent trip up to Illinois from Arizona, and we wanted something that was amazing. To say The Davis House is amazing is like saying the sun is bright. Actually, it’s not just amazing, it’s a must-see! We were expecting a comfortable place to live for a week while visiting family. What we got was so much more. It is a traditional historic house, built a long time ago and renovated and decorated with serious skill. It is warm and friendly, and I need to tell you this… you will need time to explore, observe, and enjoy all that is available with this amazing home! The deco is amazing! Everywhere you look, you have to take a minute to enjoy it. The back patio is PERFECT! Allowing you to be a great distance from the quiet street and to enjoy your own special space away from it all. Inside, you get treated with amazing wall art that literally takes you around the world. There are so many places to sit, enjoy your morning coffee, and enjoy the ambience of the room. A library room, rooms with windows everywhere, both upstairs and downstairs. There are so many places to enjoy in this wonderful house. Again, you cannot book this place for a few days. You need AT LEAST a week, probably two to fully enjoy it. Our favorite places were the upstairs room off of the master bedroom, CERTAINLY the magnificent front porch, and the kitchen! OH MY GOD that kitchen!! I am a tech guy that works on technology 24/7, and I did not hardly have an urge to setup my gear and go to work. I just couldn’t! The place was so welcoming and comfortable! I just spent my time wandering around and taking it all in! The kitchen has an incredible stove, an amazing in-wall cabinet for dinnerware and other items, LIGHTED! And so well done! The kitchen sink and stove has plumbing features you will wish you had at home. All with a room with an array of windows that blast the room with sunlight. It was a blessing of experience! The bathroom off of the upstairs bedroom. The shower is incredible, with multiple shower head options and a lot of room to just be happy getting clean. The separate tub and the plumbing fixtures supporting it are something out of Better Homes and Garden. And the sink? And the skylight pane in the room? WOW! The front yard is like a court yard, and you could spend all day exploring it.. And if you get a chance, DEFINITELY check out the neighborhood! Enjoy! We sure did. And we will again. Thanks!

Perfect VRBO - We wanted to move it!

This is truly a gem of a property. The old home is fantastic and well-equipped. The kitchen is one of my dreams. There are many spaces so no one is tripping over each other. Beds are very comfortable and the master bath is something of my dreams. Home has lovely outdoor space and we enjoyed watching the birds bathe in the birdbath. Home is surrounded by bushes so is quite secluded while still being in a bustling suburb of Chicago. Already planning another visit with some friends!

A Tribute to the Victorian Era

We were attending a graduation in Chicago and decided that while not in town, this big, beautiful place would be a welcomed escape. Boy, were we right. The level of detail and warmth of the home surpassed our expectations. The gardens were enchanting and the location, although separated from the City, provided a converse to our city time that was great.

Great House!

The Davis House is wonderful—large, spacious—and just as described in the listing. It really is fully equipped with just about anything one would need. Beds are comfortable, water pressure is great and the laundry room on the second floor is terrific. William is a gracious owner and answered all our questions promptly. One of our other passions is music. I was involved with the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps for 26 years, as a marching member for 10 years and 16 as a choreographer and director. My whole family was involved in one way or another. My sister Celeste and Paul were members while sisters Claudia and Regina, followed and helped with management. My father was very active as director and my mother sewed flags and followed us every where. In 2015 I had the honor to be inducted in to the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame.

My son has followed in music and was a member of the Green Thunder Percussion Ensemble and has been taking piano lessons for 15 years.

I am currently president of Ray's Hvac, a heating and air conditioning company that my father Ray started in 1956. My mother and brother Paul work for the company as well.

My son and I have 4 dogs: Kelsey, a Terrier mix, rescued from Texas. Mr. Murphy another terrier mix was rescued from Ireland. He was running down the farm road in Cordal, Castleisland, Ireland where Cottage Mary Rose, our cottage is. Layla, is our little Pomsky and finally Sir Archer our Border Collie.

We are involved along with my sister Claudia with Young at Hearts, a senior pet rescue and adoption organization. My son also volunteers at the Animal Care League of Oak Park.

My son and I are parishioners at St. John the Baptist in Winfield, and I am also a member of the Human Rights Campaign.
We starting doing vacation rentals in 2001 with our thatched cottage in County Kerry, Ireland. Cottage Mary Rose is named after my mother. She went with me on my first trip there and has been back many times.

- William Harty,

The Davis House,

Why they chose this property

Our last old treasure is the Davis House in Glen Ellyn, Il. It is a 1892 historical land mark. I fell in love with Glen Ellyn as a young man working for the family business. I would come down Main Street to make pick ups from some of our vendors.

When I first saw the Davis House, I knew this home was a diamond in the rough. The house built in 1892 originally owned all of the surrounding land...consisting of around 8 acres. Originally built by a German family, it is considered a Gambrel style home. We found German Chicago newspapers in a wall in the basement.

The Davis family from England were the 3rd owners. In 1929 they began to sell off the land and put a short road in behind the existing home. They built 3 Sears bungalows for their children and named their new street Davis Terrace.

The house originally faced Western Ave. so when we moved here there was no real front and the old garage was in what was now the front yard. The original clapboard siding had been covered over with aluminum siding. We had all of this removed and duplicated the original cedar. We added the front porch an turret to give this wonderful landmark home the grand look that it deserved.

Winner of renovation of the year 2002. Granted Landmark the same year!

USA Today Travel named Glen Ellyn as one of America's Most Picturesque Small Towns as their selection for the state of Illinois. It is a charming, picturesque welcoming community that offers a big city amenities with a small town feel.

What makes Glen Ellyn picturesque? Its historic downtown filled with locally-owned shops, unique restaurants, a restored 1920's movie theater and seasonal events are just some of the many attributes that draw visitors to our award-winning community. Glen Ellyn has a quality of life that is unique for a Village including its cultural, entertainment and recreation opportunities unique to the area.

What makes this property unique

The house is nestled in a great historical neighborhood off of a quiet street on a cul de sac. Walking distance to parks, town and the train which will get you to the heart of Chicago in under 30 minutes. Woodfield Mall, one of the largest in the states is a 20 minute drive away.
The house is embracing and has the spa like feel with the whirlpool tub and rain shower. Beautiful private gardens and gracious indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.
The large wood burning, gas starting fireplace is an amazing feature for colder months.
There are 2 heating and air conditioning systems for perfect temperature control. Each floor has it's own control and system.
