About this property

Large stone house with hot tub pond, secluded acerage, up to three families

This is a rare find is as secluded (though conveniently located) as it is full of rustic charm. Orignally built in 1865 from regional limestone, it was expanded by my grandparents in the 70s, for the very intention of housing large family gatherings.

There are six bedrooms across two floors (8 beds in all), three full washrooms, two huge living rooms, a large dining room (the table sits 12 comfortably), a stocked country kitchen, and a granite fireplace.

It's very spacious, easily accomodating two or even three families together (sleeps 13 people comfortably), with plenty of activities for everyone, indoors and out. We have loads of boardgames, a 70" TV with lots of seating options, great WIFI throughout the house, as well as several great places to get a bit of work done (both shared and private).

The hot tub is nested in cedar trees and is tastefully lit, but not so much as to hide the view of the stars. The stone patio that surrounds the house is also well-lit with a warm glow at night, allowing for cozy evenings on the covered patio with a fire table and standing heater.

You would have one hundred acres to yourselves. It’s private and full of natural beauty, directly at the base of the Niagra Escarpment. There are ponds (two), fields and forests to explore, whether on foot or snowshoes (we have eight pairs on-hand of various sizes). There’s a snowmobile trail that cuts through the far end of the property.

The town of Meaford is 12 minutes by car, so stocking up on on groceries and other supplies is easy - there's also a really great selection of pubs and restaurants. For the skiiers, Blue Mountain is 22 minutes by car.

Bedding and towels (all new, warm, and lovely) are included.

I'm a visual artist with one foot in the countryside of Meaford, Ontario, the other in the city of Toronto. I grew up exploring the fields and streams, and today I care for them, renting out this house and property so that I may continue to invest in the dream my grandparents had originally invisioned for it when they bought it in 1972.

Why they chose this property

Whether as a large group of families, friends, or both, or even in as one or two couples seeking ample spacce, everyone who stays here falls in love with this house and surrounding land. There are so many areas to explore, both inside and out, as well as so many spaces to be together or to spend time alone.

And for remote workers....
It's a great place for work-life balance.

While no one room exists solely as a workspace, a variety of workstations have been situated throughout the house. All but one of the bedrooms (the one designed with small kids in mind) has a desk and chair with ample natural light. A strong WIFI signal throughout the house means its possible to have lengthy Zoom meetings from any of these locations with extra privacy from the rest of the house.
There is a Murphy-style pull-out desk in the old living room, great for quiet focus in beautiful surroundings, as well a round table next to floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The largest bedroom has a long desk with a laser-jet printer and a 28" monitor. The variety of work spaces makes it possible for any combination of activity to be happening in the house at the same time, with some of the group working while others are cooking a large meal, watching a movie, playing games.

What makes this property unique

This property is made for friends and families. Whether they're just learning to walk or well into their teens, kids love it. Your parents and grandparents will love it too, even more so, if it's possible.
My grandma designed the wallpaper and printed it out by hand, one pinapple at a time. Everyone in my family, from my grandparents, to parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and siblings helped to plant the trees from a wide variety of species.

It is a rare place: a beautiful house, an incredible natural setting, all infused with150 years of family and love.
