Do not book a vacation rental through VRBO

The night before my stay was supposed to start, Houston was hit by a Derecho, knocking power out for most of the city and the vrbo property. We were unsure when power would be restored and many gas stations and grocery stores were even closed. Vrbo refused to initiate a refund without the owners approval, but the owner would not answer my calls/texts requesting a refund. It has been well over a month and I am still working to get a refund for a property that was uninhabitable during my stay.

The neighborhood is shady at best. Very bad smell throughout home during stay. Booked based on pet friendly however a hour prior was told wasn’t pet friendly. Host allowed us to stay anyway even though I had already spent on another place. There was no area for my dogs to be free nor safe. Not one of the games that was advertised in the posting was functional. Either the game was missing or broken.The pool/ping pong table was missing a part to the leg so it was lop sided and unable to play and all the sticks were broke. The reason I reserved was for the games and none worked at all. The “inflatable” hot tub we all chose not to get in due to the fact that every neighbors camera was mounted directly at the yard pointing right at the hot tub, giving absolutely no privacy. The house was very dirty, living room couch was so stained we wouldn’t sit on it. We left a day early. The only reason we stayed at all was because it was non refundable. Very poor experience. Myself, husband and daughter felt uncomfortable and unsafe the entire time. At one point during the night Saturday a gang of about 100 people on 4 wheelers took over the entire block, revving the engines and peeling out and blocking the streets off, making it impossible to even leave the property. Do not stay here!!!

Comfortable and fun property, definitely recommend

Cute little house, fun games, very clean, very quiet neighborhood, 10 mins from most of the things we did downtown, would definitely stay here again! Only a few things I noticed. The lock on the gate outside isn’t really functional. It’s just a bike lock, so it’s not really preventing anyone from entering the property even if you lock it, so I don’t really see the purpose other than to prevent vehicles from parking in the driveway. But the door locks just fine, so we never felt unsafe. And we had zero issues with the neighborhood. Even spoke to one of the neighbors and he was very nice and friendly. The other thing is that there are only 6 towels. Which for us was a bit annoying considering we were 6 adults and stayed 3 nights. There are no hand towels or dish towels. Only 6 bath towels and 6 washrags. Just be prepared or bring some extras, it was no biggie just a little annoying. The pool table does have a broken leg, but it’s not like we are trying to play professional level billiards. It was fine, we just put some folded cardboard under the leg and it played just fine. Few of the sticks are broken but there were still 2 we were able to play with. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Houston and looking for a comfortable place not far from downtown to hang out and sleep.

BE AWARE!! Please Read BEFORE Booking.. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.

Not being very familiar with Houston,I realized shortly after booking while looking on maps that it DID NOT look safe for my family I reached out to cancel and was told it was an URBAN area with ups and downs that others have NOT had issues plus it was gated etc if I had any more concerns to let him know & no one answered my question if I could cancel since it was so soon after booking.I didn’t want to lose my money so I took advice of the host since I couldn’t get a reply to cancel.I’ve stayed all over the world & NEVER had an issue to date! First when we pull into area police are everywhere and it looks like abandoned homes besides the four townhomes at this residence and four more down the street.The gate has a take off lock that you have to physically get out of the car to remove in this neighborhood and relock bc gate doesn’t work. The pool table has a broken leg & pool sticks are also broken.The hot tub (we did not use) does not look sanitary.Coffee machine stagnant water inside/used pod left in it.The dishwasher moldy from not being ran,looks like it has not been cleaned in a very long time.There were thong underwear under the bed where my oldest daughter slept & that bed is falling apart.I went to eat cereal out of a bowl,there was a hair in the bowl,all of the bowls were stained and nasty. There was hair on my pillow.My car was robbed bc side gate no lock So MUCH dust all my kids are sick now.NOREPLY to concerns after belongings stolen.AREA pics NOT listed. NOT SAFE
