We were greeted right away by our hosts and made to feel right at home. The property is beautiful and well cared for. Our accommodations were perfect and located in a quiet area. We had everything we needed for our week away!
A very comfortable and cozy stay. Great location for day adventures. Hiked the Tenant Creek Falls trail on perfect fall day with great waterfall. Quick trip to Saratoga Springs for dinner one night and to Tupper Lake the next day for a train ride on the Adirondack Railroad. Perfect Adirondack location for exploring and Studio C is great to return to after a full day. Great comfortable, relaxing space. On rainy day, stayed in and completed one of many Liberty puzzles. John and Caroline were great hosts with everything in place for an enjoyable visit.

Once again John and Caroline provided us with a great and comfortable stay at Studio C. Perfect location in the ADK, so on days when weather was nice we had great adventures in the area and when the weather was not great then Studio C provided a great option for staying out for the day.
Had a wonderful experience at this beautiful property. Caroline and John were gracious hosts, and the serene setting made for a relaxing week in the Adirondacks.

Hi Brenda, hope you get this… We just saw your very favorable review on VRBO… But perhaps there was a mistake on the number of stars you gave us. Only one star doesn't jive with your review and hopefully your experience. If there's anyway to correct that it's really important to us.
Thank you
Studio C was a great place to relax and enjoy the Adirondacks from reading while sitting by the river, enjoying the deck while grilling dinner, and visiting some wonderful natural areas and small villages a short drive away. Was exactly what we were looking for to enjoy the great end-of-summer weather. We have stayed at Studio C before and will certainly be back again.
My husband and I had a lovely time staying at Studio C! The setting is beautiful and so was the property. Meeting John and exploring the sculpture garden made it a truly unique experience. I highly recommend.
We had a delightful stay. Studio C was very comfortable and attractive. John and Caroline were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. We enjoyed the beautiful setting and sculpture park along the river. We especially enjoyed touring the studios and talking with Caroline and John. The area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities. We would definitely stay again.
A lovely quiet location, surrounded by trees. Well furnished and attractive. Our only concern was the platform, elevated bed, not the greatest for people of advancing age.Hosts are welcoming and helpful. Went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant.
Property was as advertised. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the property and the hospitality of John and Caroline.
The Studio was very private from the rest of the property.
The Studio was well equipped for everything needed, was extremely comfortable and the sculpture grounds were spectacular.
Highly recommended from our perspective.
This beautiful and inviting place matches the grandeur hospitality of John and Caroline. Was the best peaceful getaway we have had at any VRBO. Truly worth the trip to Wells, NY. And the talent and artistry of both John and Caroline was icing on top of it all. Take the trip, you won't have any regrets, only great memories. Thank you John and Caroline.
John and Carolines property was wonderful! It was a perfect place to get away for a few days! The lake is a mile down the road and John let us borrow his bikes. We biked around the lake and it was beautiful!!! My husband and I went to a couple restaurants right on the water for dinner, which were about a 20 minute drive! Its such a beautiful area! Lots of hiking options as well. A perfect place for a weekend getaway!!!
This is our third time at John and Caroline's sculpture garden. Living in a sculpture garden on a beautiful river, if only for a short time, is an amazing experience. The studio apartment is very large, has a very well equipped apartment sized kitchen, is extremely clean and the bed is comfortable. The apartment is also well designed and filled with original art. We love it here and are coming back later in the summer.
Our experience staying at "Studio C" exceeded our expectations. The property is beautiful (peacefully sited near the burbling river), exquisitely maintained (the host even ironed the bed linens), and fully outfitted. Such an aesthetically pleasing and deeply comfortable space! The hosts are engaging, talented sculptors, willing to take the time to provide tours of their working studios. We hope to return!
Peaceful beautiful setting located in an old mill. Interior itself was nicely furnished and very clean. Not only dishes & appliances needed to cook but also had several spices, etc. Listing indicated sculpture garden but we also met John & Caroline along with tour of their studios, unexpected plus. Convenient location for hiking, kayaking & historical attractions. Highly recommend Adirondack experience museum.

Art and the River
Studio C exceeded our expectations. The studio sits in the midst of a beautiful and inspiring sculpture garden created by John and Caroline, the owners, from their own work. The room itself is spacious, modern, and elegant. John and Caroline were quite helpful. We hiked, kayaked and swam. This is a perfect getaway for a couple.

Thank you, we hope you will return. All four seasons are wonderful here..
A beautiful piece of peace and quiet with a riverside view.
We were both so pleased to have discovered this treasure spot for our 40th wedding anniversary. Meeting John and Caroline was an unexpected anniversary gift.
It truly is a lovely treasure hidden in the rural Adirondacks. The hosts were so gracious and welcoming even sharing their time, sculpture and beautiful working studios upon request.
At the same time, the actual living space is set aside, private, spacious and wonderful. Everything was clean, modern, nicely appointed, and well designed with some of owners' own art gracing the room. The river is only steps away and a delightful way to spend a few hours enjoying the cool shade. The closest town had nice shops and a good coffee spot (Uncle Carl's).
We are looking forward to another visit next summer.

Fantastic unique hideaway in the Adirondacks
My wife and I stayed in this unbelievably beautiful apartment located in a converted mill building on idyllic riverside property - the perfect August getaway from NYC. John and Caroline were gracious and friendly hosts, and one of the highlights of our stay was a personal tour John gave of his studio and workspaces. The apartment itself is exactly as pictured in the photos, if not even a little more grand in person. We made constant use of the gas grill, located right by the front door on a new wooden patio. Note that there aren't many restaurants nearby, but the kitchen is well equipped for cooking; just be sure to stock up on groceries before you arrive if you can. Make sure to take a walk through the sculpture garden and visit the river where you can sit in chairs on a little rock island and watch the Sacandaga slowly bubble by. Wells itself is a quiet town, but Lake Algonquin is beautiful and we found great hikes (Crane Mountain, ~35 min) and sightseeing (Adirondack Museum, ~60 min) nearby. Cell service is spotty at best, nothing via ATT, but there is wifi in the apartment. Overall, a fantastic one-of-a-kind place to stay and a extremely pleasant experience all around.

Charming space, unfortunate circumstance.
The studio itself and rest of property do match the description and reviews quite well. It’s evident much thought and effort has gone into restoring the original structure and creating a unique space within. There are some minor touches needed which could further enhance the living space, but overall it is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.
Unfortunately, we experienced some repeated noise disturbance during our stay. It appears Caroline was under a deadline, as conveyed by John, and stone work needed to be completed. Consequently, on more than one occasion, and for extended periods of time, we had to contend with machine noise (cutting stone/marble). We did express concern to John who assured us work would resume at a later time. Frankly, it was both surprising and disappointing that we’d have to ask. From my standpoint, it should be mentioned and perhaps even emphasized that the studio is located directly across from what is a rather large working space. Surely, being nestled in a sculpture garden is neat but the two scenarios are vastly different. The work resumed on more than one occasion and so I would advise future guests to inquire if their dates fall during “work days.”
While the setting was perfect for an idyllic getaway from city life, the circumstances were not. John and Caroline appeared understanding at first and left us with the impression they would respect our peace during the stay.
However, I am unfortunately left with the impression they consider this to be normal. I have communicated my sentiments to John after our stay, but have not received any comments/feedback.

Rasha,
We appreciate your honest review. Sorry we did not get back to you after your initial final comments, it was not because of lack of interest or concern. We do apologize again for the studio noise and would like to explain that this is not the norm or a common occurrence. It was a unique situation. Over the years and with the scores of guests we have hosted it has not happen before. We have never had any similar complaints.
We respectfully ask that you to consider re-submitting your review to reflect this.
Again we apologize and would happy to extend a reduced rate if you were willing to give "Studio C" another visit.
Respectfully,
John

Unfortunately Rasha did not choose to respond to my above request. I would like to share with other hosts the very unpleasant conduct of this couple, they definitely were having personal issues and we believe let out their frustrations on us. We are very sorry about the situation and hope we can still resolve this in a better way.
Beautiful accomodations and grounds. Perfect for a quiet, relaxing get-away!

About the host
Hosted by John and Caroline
I live and work here with my partner sculptor Caroline who is originally from Austria and speaks English, German, French and Italian. We are both international recognized sculptors (please Google our names: John Van Alstine, Caroline Ramersdorfer). We would be delighted to share our garden, studios and large indoor gallery and all that the wonderful Adirondacks have to offer with our guests.
Why they chose this property
This historic property, with its 6 independent buildings, nestled on the banks of a mountain river is an artist's dream. To live, create and exhibit our work in such a beautiful part of the world is an extraordinary and wonderful privilege and something we would love to share it with our guests!
What makes this property unique
Beyond all the wonderful things the Adirondacks offer - our unique space affords our guests a chance to live within our 9 acre sculpture garden, and if they wish, stroll in our huge indoor galleries, visit our studios, see us at work and come away with memorable insights into how our enchanted location has a strong and positive effect on our creative process.
