About this property
Historic 1780 Manchester Farm House With Mountain Views
One of the oldest homes in the county, nestled on a secluded lot with mountain views. A spacious retreat for family and friends.
All towels and bed linens are provided.
Bathrooms were fully or partially renovated in 2016.
The house is located in Sunderland, on the south side of Manchester, and sits on 3+ acres with an old barn* and arbor garden located on the property. (*Please note: The barn is not accessible to guests.) Extra wooded acerage abuts the rear and south sides of the house, with access to a novice wooded hiking trail. The house backs up to 10 wooded acres with Vermont wildlife, which you may encounter.
PLEASE NOTE - This is an old/rustic farmhouse, which contains antique fixtures, furnishings, and decorative items.
If you prefer modern homes with brand new appliances, fixtures, and/or suburban type settings, this may not be the best rental for you.
The House: the first floor has a large Living Room, with a Samsung Smart TV and informal library; the Living Room opens to the Tap Room - complete with a traditional colonial cage bar - and then on to the spacious formal Dining Room with a wood-burning Rumford fireplace. The first floor also houses a half-bath, and a cozy, quiet Den with an antique wood-burning stone fireplace.
Great cooking Kitchen with an antique large Wolf gas stove & griddle, an attached Breakfast Room with a free-standing gas/propane 'warming fireplace' (not an insert), large laundry room, and a mudroom - with ample space to store ski equipment. Finally, a private main floor in-law suite with a Queen size bed, full bathroom, couch, and the home's second Smart TV. This suite is away from the other upstairs bedrooms; ideal for those who prefer more privacy and/or are unable to climb stairs.
Upstairs boasts six bedrooms and two full baths. One of the bedrooms is a double suite, with 2 full-size beds; the other 5 guest rooms have 1 full bed each.
The house has 4 bathrooms total, one of which is a half bath, with 2 full bathrooms upstairs, and 1 full + 1 half bathroom downstairs.
We have 2 A/C units* in the house: one is a window unit in the upstairs two bed suite, and the other one is portable.
*Please note: We do NOT have Central Air Conditioning in the house.*
The house has 4 fireplaces: 2 working wood-burning fireplaces, 1 gas/propane 'warming fireplace', and 1 decorative-only/non-functional fireplace. We do not provide firewood or kindling.
Relax and enjoy the great view of Mt. Equinox from one of the Adirondack or rocking chairs located on our covered front porch - after a full day of shopping in Manchester, skiing at Bromley/Stratton, hiking the Green Mountains or fly fishing/tubing the Battenkill, of course!
*Sorry, but we do NOT allow parties, weddings/receptions, or events on the property (outside or inside) at any time - and we are a smoke-free, pet-free property. NO EXCEPTIONS.*
Notable Driving Distances:
8 minute drive to Manchester Village and Equinox, 6 to Arlington and Hildene, 3 to Skyline Drive. 1 minute drive to Hill Farm Inn. 10 minutes to West Mountain Inn
Approx. 20 minutes to the Horse Show and Dorset Center, 20 minutes to Bennington College and Bromley, 29 minutes to Stratton and Magic, 45 minutes to Okemo, 50 minutes to Mount Snow.
Insiders Tip: Avoid all Manchester traffic via Richville to East Manchester Road.
Below are things to do in the area -

Shopping at the many Designer Outlet Shops, sampling the confections at Mother Myricks or The Manchester Country Store, and many of the other fine locally owned specialty shops in town.
Visit The Vermont Country Store in Weston, an authentic country store with practical and hard to find goods.
Spend some time (or even compete!) at the Vermont Summer Horse Festival. A world-class horse show in the foothills of the Green Mountains.
Take a Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride through the fields and mountains with Mountain View Ranch, Taylor Farms, Pfister Farms or Horses For Hire.
Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding is fun for everyone. Whether you are a beginner or expert: Get information on lifts, lessons and rental equipment at Bromley. Stratton, Magic, Okemo, or Mt. Snow ski resorts.
Get a sled and go down Burr and Burton Hill (a local high school). Bring your own sled or get one at The Mountain Goat, RKMiles, Eastern Mountain Sports or Real Sports.
Go Cross Country Skiing at Robert Todd Lincoln’s Hildene, Wild Wings, Viking Ski Touring Center, or Merck Forest.
Ice Skating or catch a Hockey Game at Riley Rink.
Contact Equinox Snow Tours for a guided snowmobile tour through the Green Mountain National Forest. Led by trained guides, you will ride on a state of the art snowmobile on the extensive VAST trails.
