About the host

Hosted by Rick Anderson

Host profile image
Rick Anderson purchased Miner Cottage from the historic home’s first and only owners in the Fall of 2017. Rick’s parents were Vermonters and when his parents sold their Dorset house in 2015 Rick was determined his family continue the sensational Vermont experience that began for them 27 years ago. Miner Cottage was his family’s answer to their dream.

Rick spent 33 years as an advertising sales executive with TimeWarner, including a three-year tenure launching This Old House Magazine. While working for TimeWarner Rick began renovating old homes; Miner Cottage is his 6th restoration project and the house reflects the same, thoughtful design process he has applied to his other homes…. Maintain the classic beauty of an historic home while adding a few modest, necessary and contemporary amenities important to his family and their guests.

Why they chose this property

Rick and his family rented Miner Cottage from its original owner in the Summer of 2017. At the time they had no intention of buying a 2nd home. The house, while without heat and modern amenities, had a perfect "in town" Manchester location and a history that was incredible. Additionally Miner Cottage was the last remaining home on Manchester's "Main Street" that hadn't been renovated. During their visit they fell in love with the charm and character of Miner Cottage. The restoration was simple. Rick's goal was to restore the home without compromising its character. Miner Cottage remains, as Rick promised its original owner, "your family's Miner Cottage" with updates.

Rick and his wife, a prominent Ct. landscape designer, bought Miner Cottage because it contained the three elements which connect with their lifestyle. First and foremost they love the beauty of Southern, Vt.. Secondly, the in-town location of Miner Cottage basically eliminates the need for a car in Manchester for their weekend visits, and thirdly, you can "set your watch" to the "trafficless" 3 hour drive from Wilton to Manchester on any day and virtually at any time of year.

Manchester, Vt. and Miner Cottage offer the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the NY metropolitan suburbs and Rick is excited to share the Miner Cottage/Manchester experience with others.
