We had a wonderful time at the Battenkill Valley Mansion. The house is well equipped with everything needed for a fun family weekend with multiple generations. Melissa was super helpful with planning and check-in. The area is beautiful and we look forward to another trip.
Wonderful stay at this spacious, well-equipped and clean large house. The place has everything thing you might need for an extended stay. Communication with the owner was clear and accurate. This is a terrific spot for a large group getaway.

Fantastic Stay!
For the last 3 years we have spent MLK weekend at the Wilburton Inn for a ski trip with six other families. I can't say enough good things about this place. There was plenty of space for 14 adults and 18 children to relax and enjoy. The huge dining room and living room made for great meals and hanging around time. With only a short drive to Bromley/Stratton - the Wilburton Inn is a true home run.

We are so delighted you and your group had a great reunion at our Battenkill Valley Mansion. You were so organized figuring out who should sleep where -- and you definitely deserved kudos from your family for putting the whole big reunion together!
Can't wait to see you next Fall.

This home is located in a beautiful area. We had more than enough room for multiple families. Plenty of gathering areas and large kitchen and dining area that we shared huge family dinners. In addition to lovely home, the support team for questions and maintenance were amazing! Immediately responded to each inquiry!
We were very happy with the house. My family was very happy that most rooms had their own bathroom attached. This was helpful when mixing young people and seniors. The house was clean and comfortable. Perfect for our family gathering. We played games on the front lawn and board games in the diningroom, took long walks and even went skiing. We had a great time.

Family Gathering July 4 weekend
The Mansion was terrific for our family gathering of 29 on July 4 weekend. The place was clean and the common rooms provided great space for smaller groups to play cards, ping pong, board games, etc. Also, the outdoor space was an added plus for whiffleball, babies in small pools and just sitting in a circle and enjoying the outdoors.
The only (slight) drawback was that the kitchen is dated. All in all the place easily handled our large group and I would definitely recommend this rental house.

Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
Is the kitchen dated?
yes and no. I will give you a description:
we do have three kitchens, one for cooking, one for drinks and sitting down for a group, and a third on the top floor apartment for convenience.
The first kitchen has two gas driven stoves with 8 top burners and two bottom stoves, two huge refrigerators and a triple sink and dishwasher. There is a cuisinart and many appliances around.
Dishes and silver are available for more than 30 people.
There is an antique woodburning stove in one corner and many cabinets with glasses and dishes that remind you of the old times. There is a pantry with more cabinets..
There is adequate countertop space which can be expanded as needed with the addition of table.
I recently painted the kitchen.
Overhead ventilation is good and many recessed lights,
All the same, I will continue my effort to improve the unit.

We had a very large (30+) family reunion group looking for a shared house in Vermont. The Battenkill Valley Mansion was the perfect fit. The grounds and shared spaces were a great for spending time together with family members from ages 3 to 70+. Melissa and the Wilburton team were incredibly helpful - not just with the rental process but also with great tips for hosting in the space and help with the general Manchester area. The rooms are spacious with plenty of bathrooms. And the kitchen/dining room were perfect for catered meals. We loved having access to the Wilburton’s pool and grounds too. I really don’t think we could have found a better spot for our group in the whole state!

Christmas in Vermont !
My family and I spent seven days this past Christmas at this wonderful mansion. There were 26 adults and children and we could not have picked a better place. The bedrooms were charming and enough for every couple, single and child. The house had enough rooms for the children to play and run and the adults to talk and play games or read. Several nights we all sat at the large dinning room table and had cozy, fire-lit dinners. The beautiful, private surroundings made this the perfect place. I should also mention that the owners are wonderful and do everything you need to make your stay enjoyable! I can't say enough good things about this house and recommend it highly!
Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
Dearest Hansell,
The best Christmas gift this winter is that you became our dear family friend. I have so enjoyed staying in touch with you through the past 6 months. The hospitality industry is so wonderful because as we say in our Wilburton Inn theme song, guests magically do feel like kin at the end of their visit.
We loved seeing your children and grandchildren and friends enjoying the festive holidays at the Battenkill Valley mansion. You decorated the home to truly capture the christmas spirit. Thank you for sharing your Southern Hospitality with us Yankees.
We can't WAIT to host you and welcome you all back once more on your next Visit to Vermont.

New Year Eve Weekend
I was just there over the 4 day weekend with my kids and friends..
We had a total of 28 people in the house. It was a beautiful house and great surroundings. The adults as well as the kids had a blast...
I would definitely recommend this house to people with kids..
Albert, Sorry for the mess we made....... this house is not for the lazy ones....we really needed a maid to clean up after us EVERY DAY..
The house is also close to everything.. especially the outlet... a lot of good sales going on there.
I don't mind going back again next year.
Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
I appreciate the honesty of this guest and reviewer. Indeed her group of friends left the place messy and I had a bigger job in cleaning the house up after they left.
I will accept her recommendation of making house keeping available for guests that are "lazy" and also for big groups and in the future I will ask for a security deposit to cover excessive cleaning after a stay.
I am delighted in welcoming groups to this huge house but I am learning the limits of hospitality and the conditions for good long term relationships. For instance I will never have a group of high school graduates party in this house again; that was the worst experience ever. I recoil remembering the liberties they took in this place like a beer pong drinking competition across the ping pong table. The mess of this last group is minor compared to the mess the school graduates left behind.

Another Family Reunion
All 34 of us returned to the Battenkill Valley Mansion for our family reunion this summer, having had our first reunion there four years ago. We lived it then, but Melissa has made many improvements that make the mansion even more comfortable. Among the changes:
-Central air conditioning
-A lovely outdoor gazebo, and lots of additional outdoor tables/seating
-Addition of two ground floor bedrooms
-Kitchen and grill area are brightened up and fully equipped with cookware, glassware, and place settings.
-All 15 bedrooms are furnished attractively, including lovely linens and well-appointed bathrooms.
The location can't be beat! On a hot summer days, various members of our group went:
-tubing on the Battenkill
-exploring the Bromley Slide
-swimming at the Dorset Quarry
-lounging poolside at the main hotel
Really highly recommend the Battenkill mansion for your group too!

40th Birthday Party Extravaganza
If you are looking for a place to host a low-key outdoorsy weekend for a large group of people look no further! Hosted a 40th birthday party at this mansion and it worked out great! Enough rooms (with private baths) that each family could stay comfortably. The area is nice and secluded and safe so kids could play outside without worry. Grilled all weekend, played all sorts of lawn games, went for a hike on the property (really pretty) then had campfires at night--with baby monitors everyone was able to come out at night. There are more outdoor recreational activities available in the area (rafting, canoeing, biking) as well. The ballroom was perfect for hosting the catered dinner we had--table for 30 adults and it was great. We did not get a band but there is room for one. All in all, the property is as billed and I would recommend it for anyone hosting a large weekend getaway.

Andrew,
it was such a pleasure to host your family for your 40th birthday celebration. You worked so thoughtfully to hire a caterer and make sure all the details were perfect for your weekend and I am so thrilled that the house and setting was everything you were hoping you. You have such a beautiful family. It was truly a pleasure to welcome you and we hope to see you all back again!
Best wishes,

Great Place for Large Family Reunion
This enormous old mansion was great for our big 4-day family Thanksgiving reunion. We had 14 adults and 9 kids (2-9 yrs) to fill up the 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms on the upper two floors. The large main kitchen and two smaller ones with a total of 3 ovens were all used in preparing the Thanksgiving Day feast, and, surprisingly, we all fit around the two tables in the dining room. The huge Game Room was well used for all kind of activities during the day, and well into the night by the adults. The kids would disappear for hours at a time on the upper two floors with their own made-up games. There were plenty of outside activities in good weather in the nearby athletic field, playground behind the Equinox Inn, hikes on the numerous trails, visits to the artwork at the Wilburton Inn, and shopping outlets. Albert, our host, was wonderful to us and was always ready to help with anything we needed. We all left with a feeling that it would be good to return here for another reunion.
Wendell R.
Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
Both reviews of the site have come from Thanksgiving family reunions. Is it because the groups were particularly versed in giving thanks or because the house could accomodate the many challenges of providing for the variety of age groups and interests of a very large family reunion upon the most demanding culinary holiday?
There is one correction for the review: the count of bedrooms is 12. All together the house has 12 bathrooms, two are on the first floor.
I welcome the challenges of big groups and I am relieved that the place has met the guests' expectations and that they sincerely would like to return.
Incidentally I welcome I also complaints as they help to improve the experience for the next guests; and this place has undergone and will continue to be improved as it is very popular by demanding big groups. The extra kitchen was added to decongest the first as the place to store drinks and coffee gear, as well as for those who like to sit, chat and sip drinks while others are preparing food. It is also a good place for the kids to snack other than the large formal dining room. The third kitchen is on the third floor; it is useful for those who live up there and do not wish to go downstairs for every little thing.
I hope I get some reviews for other times of the year as we are equally good for Christmas reunions, winter and summer vacations. It remains to be seen.

Great location for an amazing weekend ski getaway
What do you do when 25 good friends all want to get away for an epic ski weekend? You rent this amazing mansion!
We were struggling to find a place that would accomodate us all, until we found Teleion Holon. Beautiful and spacious, this house served us perfectly. There is plenty of common space for relaxing and playing games and the fireplaces were great for keeping it cozy and warm. The bedrooms are all beautiful and each had its own feel to it - most even have attached sitting areas and private bathrooms! Also, The commercial size kitchen was well stocked, and great for cooking for so many people. We used the other downstairs kitchen for drinks and we didnt even need to use the third kitchen upstairs!
Best of all, the owner Albert was a pleasure to work with. He went above and beyond by giving us a short tour of the house and the artwork inside which he has curated and calls the Museum of the Creative Process. Very interesting, and gave us much more appreciation for the art in the house.
All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend this house to anyone with a large group.

Response from VrboOwner on 15 May 2020
The house has generated me many friends. Here is another group that upon leaving would like to book the place for next year.
There are two discrete features making hospitality special in this large house. These guests discovered both of them.
I acquired this house as a base for my son's organic farming and food production project, but also to utilize the building for educational retreats on the creative process. Although my son's farm has been moved to another location where it is thriving and expanding beyond a local CSA to a regional manufacturer of a range of culinary delights, from outstanding breads and popular vegiburgers, to garlicly spiced humus and pesto, I am interested in preserving the building as a bastion for agritourism so young people can discover farm life and occasional guests experience VT as a real countryside destination. As far as the educational mission, I am publishing a book on the exhibits of the Museum of the Creative Process, one of which is the Gorski Retrospective, housed at the Teleion Holon mansion.
I thank you for enjoying the visit and look forward to your return.
Regards,
Albert

A bathroom to fit every personality.
Arriving at the Battenkill mansion the first thought is that the side of the building doesn't quite reflect the image I'd conjured up in my head. Walking around front and through the front door into the foyer, past the baby grand piano and two incredibly comfortable chairs, the images and experience blend together.
The space is magnificent - the online photos evoke more of a real estate transaction and in my opinion fail to capture the character that the space holds. A splendid character, to be clear. For a retreat centered on leadership development and environmentally focused participants, the dynamic space invites engagement - internally and with others - and creativity. That said, while I was personally comfortable with the space's intensity, particularly with regard to the art, there were some in our group who experienced the art as distracting. This particular person also came to some exciting revelations, which to me speaks to the power of experiencing discomfort.
Logistically, the space was very clean, spacious and welcoming. Our group had 23 people during the days and we may have experienced a TP shortage towards the end. We couldn't find extra and have passed that info on to the inviting hosts who will ensure that it's addressed for future guests.
Access to the commercial kitchen space, the freedom to explore and get comfortable was a big part of our group's enjoyment and productivity in the space. We're grateful for the level of trust and responsibility that's placed on guests and I hope the hosts would agree that it was respected.
The posts's title reflects the diversity and number of bathrooms available. We MAY have fit upwards of 20 people in one of the tubs for both a photo and a mini-presentation. It's like having a popup meeting space available throughout the house... if only we'd held one in the third stairwell where Gorski prints are collecting dust (yes, it's that filled with art).
Visitors have trails to explore as well as nearby attractions like the Lincoln home, farms, and the town of Manchester. The other buildings and amenities of the property are also available so our response to the VT summer weather was a dip in the pool at the Wilburton Inn, a short walk from Battenkill.
If it hasn't been made clear in my description, yes I would encourage friends, relatives and certainly other retreat groups to stay in this space. I absolutely hope I have the opportunity to do so again.
Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
Dear Adam,
Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful (and glowing!) review. We loved having your leadership group come stay with us for your retreat. It was wonderful to see you enjoy the kitchen and meeting space and grounds together and really fully appreciating all this great home offers. We would love to see the bathtub photo if you can email it!
Very much looking forward to welcoming you and your group back once again,
Melissa Levis & Family
This big house worked extremely well for our family reunion. We had 27 people total. There was enough room for us to cook together, eat together, gather as a big group or in smaller conversation groups. We found a good place to work jigsaw puzzles, too. Wifi worked great. Lots of activities in the area. Nice to be able to use the pool and tennis courts at the Wilburton. The only drawbacks were that the house is a bit tired around the edges in a few places and it was too buggy in the evenings to enjoy the outdoor tables, fire ring, and gazebo. But overall, we had a fabulous stay. Thank you, Melissa!
The space is great for large groups with lots of space of extra activities. 10/10 recommend.
Melissa was great at accommodating us and letting us know everything we needed to prior to our stay. I highly recommend to anyone planning a trip with large groups.
Wow! Our stay this past weekend at the Battenkill Valley Mansion was beyond my expectations. From the moment we entered the house (all lit up and warm for us) until we left every single on of my friends and family could not get over how spacious , clean and perfect it was for this “party”. We sang and laughed and ate and drank in the large, comfy living room. We danced and played games in the banquet room. We sat down for dinner together (all 25 of us at one time) in the cozy dining room prepared in the kitchen. All of my guests commented on how comfortable the beds and bedding was. The house has everything we needed. We all want to find a reason to come back.
This Manse was ideal for our group of friends and family. Felt safe for kids and had great privacy for couples and families. The kitchen could use a wee bit of attention; dishwashers were wonky and ovens were uneven.
The property managers are fabulous; very attentive, available at all times, and we were gifted some amazing loafs of bread from the farm.

Why they chose this property
Our parents had dinner at The Wilburton to celebrate my dad’s 50th birthday — and he decided to spontaneously buy the inn that night!
We moved from New Haven CT to Manchester VT in 1972 and have been 3 generation of Levis Family Innkeepers since 1987.
After 25 years living in Manhattan as an adult, I understand why our parents moved to Vermont and all our guests love to visit.
What makes this property unique
The Wilburton is simply magical.
This is an enormous historic mansion that is lovingly maintained where you can gather with your whole family and group of friends and colleagues.
Safe, quiet, exclusive grounds far away from the road yet nearby so many things to do in Manchester.
