About this property

Vintage home near Rose Bowl & JPL/NASA. So many trails great for active folks

Altadena is a fabulous place to stay while visiting Los Angeles and Pasadena, Our place is walking distance to JPL/ NASA and only a 1.5 miles to the Rose Bowl. The house is built in 1951 and still has all original tiles and pine cabinets in the kitchen. It has a lovely gas stove and convection oven, microwave, toaster, pots and pans ect. The pine paneled, main bedroom (The Captain's Room) is surrounded on three side by windows with a queen bed and a glass writing desk which evokes Jules Verne. All the wood work is original and the furniture is vintage. The front bedroom is an ode to Frida Kahlo. It features a comfortable double spindle bed, a desk and a large closet with a dresser. The walls are decorated with an embroidered velvet Huipil. Every effort has been made to create an artistic, color-filled, sustainable environment that will charm you and inspire your creativity. A vintage sewing machine is even available for your use. There is an updated bathroom with a large walk in shower and a large living room with a beautiful fireplace, a comfortable sunny dining area the seats six and an extra room (the map room) which could be made up for an extra kiddo. There are front and back yards with orange trees and views of the nearby foothills. If you enjoy vintage charm, handmade artwork, unique decor that is still close to everything, has parking and lightening fast internet as well as a caring host please consider staying at our humble home. Remember to bring your hiking boots or mountain bike because miles of trails are only a 1/4 away.

Long weekend stay
The house was perfect for us! We were visiting our son & daughter-in-law who live within walking distance. Plenty of room for just the two of us! We didn't spend much time int the house, but the bed was comfy and the coffee maker worked! Which are two necessities for me. One little tiny glitch... I think the listing had a hair dryer as an amenity, and I did not see one.

The house is located in a good place and quiet neighborhood. It is roomy, quirky, & delightfully decorated. The beds are very comfortable. There is access to a sizable, private backyard, with yard furniture available. The house was clean on the surface, but is in need of a deep clean process. Kristina was very responsive to my questions and offered some good ideas of places to explore. With that said, there are also repairs that are badly in need. One of the doors does not have a working lock and the window to the door is literally taped in place. Propped against the bottom of the door are 2 10# free weights which it appears is intended to deter any attempt to enter the house. There is a hole in one of the panes of glass in the front room picture window (it is a double pane window) and some windows are lacking curtains. There is very low (trickle like) pressure in one of the bathroom sinks. Despite this property being “no pets allowed” there appears to be a significant amount of pet hair on some of the furniture.

Quiet, lovely visit in optimal location for activities
House was charming. Host was amazing - she went above and beyond, even stocking some breakfast foods when she learned we were coming in late at night so we wouldn't have to shop between the airport and the house. Perfect house to relax and enjoy sunny California!

I am a high school art teacher who loves to travel, find art - make art and repurpose things. My husband and two kids moved to Altadena 10 years ago and love it. The weather, the people, the orange trees are lovely. We are lucky enough to also have a condo in Mammoth, and we are restoring a barn in Oregon so as we are not in Altadena year round, I decided to make it available to people visiting during the holidays or on weekends.

Why they chose this property

We moved to Altadena for the schools and stayed for the neighbors. From the house you can easily walk around the corner to JPL and miles of trails. You can ride bikes or hike or ride a horse if you have one. You will see all sorts of people and modes of transportation. It is one of the most diverse, international and eclectic neighborhoods with grand historic homes and smaller homes all mixed together.

What makes this property unique

The proximity to every thing is great and inside the house a guest can see the effort to use sustainable materials and vintage pieces that match the age of the house. The house is very original. Many pieces of my decor have been gifted to me thru our local BuyNothing which makes my house feel more special to me. Knowing how many neighbors contributed to my house and helped fill it with love has been an important to me. I hope the guest feel the positive energy, and it helps them enjoy their visit to Altadena
