About this property
Private cottage, elegance & amazing view
Charming cottage in the highland over-viewing the town of Akureyri, only 5 km from the town center. Offers amazing view over the town and fjord. Decorated as a comfortable and elegant second home. Surrounded by wild nature and mountains.
The cottage is comfortable and elegant and ideal for families or friends. Three bedrooms, one bedroom with twin bed and two bedrooms with two single beds (can be put together). All beds are of good quality and come with warm covers and soft sheets. Open kitchen, dining room and living room area, elegantly furnished and fully equipped. Two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other also a laundry room with washer and dryer. Hot tub inside with a large door to the balcony. Garden furniture and barbeque on the balcony. The view over Akureyri and Eyjafjörð is amazing and can be enjoyed from the living room area and balcony.
The kitchen is well equipped with all the necessaries to make delicious meals. You will also find a lot of little “extras” that will be nice to have, such as tee, spices, soy-sauce, candles, napkins and more. I always leave vine bottles in the rack and a beer and vine in the fridge. You are free to use all these extras, but if you enjoy some of our vines and beer I ask you to leave behind a similar kind. In the bathroom there is shampoo and shower gel that you may use. You can contact me anytime during your stay and I will gladly answer questions about the cottage and surroundings. Iam also willing to share with you my knowledge of the area and Iceland.
The cottage is in a popular area of vacation homes in the highlands of Hlíðarfjall. Our cottage is perfectly located and offers view over the town of Akureyri and the fjord Eyjafjörður. Surrounded with wild nature and close to the beautiful mountains súlur and Hlíðarfjall where the best skiing area in the country is located. Close to outdoor activities such as horse-riding area, shooting range, motorcycle tracks and 18-hole golf course. The area is also ideal for quiet walks or hikes. Located only a few minutes drive from the center of Akureyri, which offers a wide range of activities and interesting places such as notable museums, the world's most northerly botanic garden and one of Iceland's most popular swimming pools. Also varied accommodation and excellent range of restaurants and coffees, some of which specialize in local food.
Akureyri is situated in the longest fjord in the country and surrounded by mountains reaching 1500 m. Even though the arctic circle is only 60 km north of Akureyri the climate is mild, with summer temperatures up to 25°c. Akureyri is close to many of Iceland's most beautiful natural wonders such as the Goðafoss and Dettifoss waterfalls, the volcanic area Mývatn and Dimmuborgir, and the grand canyon Jökulsárgljúfur. The area also offers exciting activities such as river rafting, hiking, fishing, whale watching and horse riding. It is possible to take an organized day trip from Akureyri to the island of Grímsey, which straddles the arctic circle.

About the host
Hosted by Brynhildur

My name is Brynhildur and some friends call me Binna. I was born 1968 and grew up in Westman Islands. I am a lawyer and have an MBA degree with emphasis on business finance and operation. I work for Business Iceland that has the role of promoting Iceland as a destination and an export and investmenst option. I am the Director of business development and operation. I really love my work there.
I am the mother of Astridur born 2001 and Hallgrimur born 2003. Astridur studies operational engineering in Reykjavik University and Hallgrimur just finished high school. We live in Mosfellsbær (close to Reykjavik).
Why they chose this property
We all love the outdoors, both in summer and winter. In the summer we hike and bike around the country. In the winter we ski. and for many years my children competed in alpine skiing! We bought this beautiful house to be our second home, especially in the winter. We love to spend time in the lovely town of Akureyri and enjoy the great skiing area of Hlíðarfjall.
What makes this property unique
The property is in an area of vacation houses but I believe my house has the best view of them all. We overlook the city of Akureyri and on winter nights the city lights are breath taking. We also have a beautiful view over the fjord and to the mountain Kaldbakur that touches the northern ski. Always when we walk into the house it's like you leave all worries and stress behind. It's so peaceful and calming!
