We had a great family cabin vacation, the cabin was very accommodating and all the supplies you need, close to the lake and the fishing was good! Owners were responsive and respond quickly
The place was perfect for us all! We enjoyed everyday there. The wine was a beautiful surprise along with the s’mores! We will keep you in mind for future visits!
A delightful cabin on a beautiful lake in northern Minnesota. Very comfortable and easy to get to the wedding venue, Alexandria shopping! Weather turned cold so we didn’t use the water toys that were available. Had a very busy schedule so this was very convenient. Comfortable beds, very quiet, enjoyed it and will come again if we’re in the area!!
Love this place! Great location, close enough to Alexandria in case you need something, but far enough out that it was nice and quiet. The lake was clear and warm. We were already planning our trip for next year

Paul and Family took good care of our lake home and left it in excellent condition. I would not hesitate to rent to them again.
We have been visiting Alexandria for many years and this was our first time renting a VRBO. It is difficult to find an affordable rental that clicks all of our boxes - 3 bedrooms, near the lake with a dock, and one that allows our dog to travel with us - and the Lake Carlos Cabin had everything we were looking for. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. We only wished it was a waterfront cabin.
Awesome place in a great location. Lake was crowded but it was a holiday weekend.
Nice yard and decks for an enjoyable time outside. Alot of activities in the area.
Would definitely return again.
We were impressed with the space and decor. Charming lake house in a very quiet neighborhood. We stayed for a combination of work and vacation and this was the perfect spot. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
This is the third year we have rented Paul’s cabin. It’s always clean and comfortable with added touches that make it a great week. Thanks for making it a home away from home! See you next year!
We enjoy the cabin so much. Paul is a great host. Everything is comfortable and tasteful. The little added bonuses they leave their guests are so nice and makes the stay even better. See you again next year! The Hafeles & Bentleys
Nice place and quiet neighborhood for the price for a week at the lake! Appreciated the wine/thank u note, fixings for s’mores and the freeze pops that left very thoughtful! Cabin was equipped with most everything you need. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.
Paul was extremely responsive and very helpful prior to check-in. Don't expect anything fancy, however this cabin was great for a couples relaxing getaway. We really enjoyed the backyard amenities and all of the indoor games. The cabin could use a deep clean but nothing unbearable.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Freeberg family cabin. We appreciate your feedback. Although the cabin may not be "Fancy" to us it is a place that our family comes together to build memories and have fun. Our hope is that opening our cabin to other families and friends gives you the opportunity to do the same. Thanks again The Freebergs
Beautiful week of relaxation and family. Only downfall was not knowing lake property was shared property, maybe I missed that in description. Was clean, welcoming and what I was looking for

Gets you to the lake
House was relatively clean and was well stocked, although kitchen could have been better organized. The hot tub was great and fire pit had plenty of wood. Property was located across the road from lake access as described. Our one disappointment was that in the pictures it looks like there is sand by the dock, but it was just dirt there. Overall we had a nice stay.

We appreciate the positive review. We work very hard to exceed our guests expectations especially when it comes to cleanliness and comfort. Glad you had a great time at our lake home.
Paul and his sister have a wonderful place and a genuinely easy process. Check in is a breeze and checkout is effortless. The back deck with a tent and bug screen is so nice late in the evening. We didn’t use the hot tub or the fire pit but I’m sure they would have been great. All of the beds were extremely comfortable and communication with Paul was a pleasure. I just can’t recommend this property or host high enough! You won’t be disappointed.

So-so place to stay near water
We weren't looking for perfect or spotless, especially with pets. However, we did spend the first hour cleaning the place before unpacking. Other guests clothes were left behind such as dirty socks under beds and in closets, and old food and unmentionables found in the pull out sofa. The cobwebs were unreal and covered everything. The firepit and supplied wood were great! No instructions were left for operating the hot tub, but was able to manage figuring it out. The lock does not work on the boat house and was left open when we arrived. The screened porch would have been a bonus if it wasn't ripped. The family members that share the adjacent property have dogs as well (not friendly) and our dog was chased around the property and escaped with only a bloody broken nail. I believe this could be an amazing VRBO with some better upkeep.

We have had over 80 families stay at our lake home in the past 10 years and we have never had a 2 star review. In the ast 12 months 5 out of the last 6 reviews were 5 star reviews. Before each guest arrives we hav 2 people spend 4 hours cleaning and preparing for each guest. As you read through our reviews you will see many compliments about how happy our guests are with the cleanliness of the home. You will not find any cobwebs on the inside of the home but we do get them on the deck rails. We try to eliminate them without the use of pesticides but because we are in wooded area is a constant battle. The screen porch was not ripped prior to the guest's arrival. I am guessing it was done by their dog. The tear was at that height of a dog.. Each season we start with a brand new gazebo screen but it is fragile. I was not there to witness the conflict between the loose dogs so I cannot comment on that incident. They asked special permission to bring an RV and park it on our property and we agreed without any additional cost.
Glad they enjoyed the hot tub and firepit even though we did not provide instructions. We are OK if the boat house was unlocked. Its just lifejackets, fishing gear and swimming accessories.
About the host

This cabin has been in my family since my grandfather and uncle purchased it 56 years ago. It has been owned for the last 40+ years by my father who passed a few years ago. In the past 15 years we have upgraded the place to a modern home with all the amenities. When my father passed my family had purchased the cabin. I have 5 kids between the age of 12-24 years old. 3 girls and 2 boys. I hope to create lots of memories for the future and someday pass the property on to my kids.
Why they chose this property
The reason that my family purchased land in this area was my uncle was a caretaker at the Lutheran bible camp up the road. Mount Carmel
What makes this property unique
The lake is large, weed free, and great for swimming.
