Why choose West Iceland:
West Iceland is the mecca of the Icelandic sagas, such as Egils saga Skallagrímssonar, Eiríkssaga and Laxdæla. It has many historical sites and there is a possibility of guided tours around such sites. Birdlife in the area is rich. The nature in the area is spectacular, with its mountains, craters, waterfalls, lakes, valleys and magical lava. Furthermore, it is one of the best areas in Iceland to view Northern Lights, during the fall and wintertime.
Historical locations in the area:
Reykholt (30 min driving distance): The heritage of Iceland's greatest medieval writer, poet, scholar and statesman, Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241), is rooted in Reykholt in the west of Iceland. Eiríksstaðir (30 min driving distance): Most evidence suggest that Eirik the Red´s son Leif Ericsson 'Leif the Lucky' was born at Eirkisstadir. Leifur became the first Europian to set foot in North America, which he named Vinland, in the year 1000

We had a fantastic stay. It was a bit of a squeeze for our family of 6 but the host made us aware in advance. Good value for money excellent communication and simple check in. Our children particularly enjoyed visiting the animals at the farm and the opportunity to go horse riding.
Wonderful apartment, very large one bedroom, laundry, kitchen well equipped, good quality for the price. Farm atmosphere and good central location for all the nearby sites.
We had a wonderful stay in this apartment to start our Iceland trip! The host was super responsive and the apartment had everything we needed for a great stay.
Beautiful farm with amazing views. We had everything we needed, the kitchen had plenty of items to cook with, towels and bedding. The hot tub did not work and the shower pressure wasn’t great, however the sheep, horses and lovely owners made up for it.
The setting and location will blow you away. Arny and her daughter are great. An issue with the water could have been handled better. Otherwise, a dream.

We loved staying at the Farmhouse! Arny was super responsive and self check in fast and easy. Waking up among the sheeps (litterlly passing in front of the window) was great for our daughters aged 8 and 9. We truly recommend for family stay!

Thank you for sharing your experience so nicely of staying at Hvassafell 2.
It is our pleasure in our life to share the experience of our animals with our visitors.
We hope we will see you very soon again
This property was a great spot out in the beautiful countryside. It has spectacular views and was comfortable for my wife and I and our 3 older kids. Arny is quick to respond to any questions and keeps the place in great shape. We really enjoyed our stay.
I really enjoyed staying at this property (farm with horses and sheep). Especially good for families. Very nice location. Close to many sights. Arny (the hostess) is amazing! Best place during my 1 week vacation.

Thank you for staying with us, I hope I see you very soon again
The apartment is on the ground floor overlooking the beautiful Iceland landscape. Arny and the family are great people, they had plenty of suggestions about what to do. Be prepared to walk out the front door to lambs, sheep, and horses! It was a great place to stay and would recommend it to everyone who wants to experience the quiet side of Iceland.
The apartment is about 100 yards from Rte 1 which has light traffic including trucks that you hear, but that wasn’t an issue for us. We did an all day drive around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. For that, Borgarnes would be a better base just to save extra driving.
I stayed here with my two daughters the first week of September. It's a great base location for exploring West Iceland. Borgarnes is about 20-30 minutes away, where you can stock up on groceries. Wonderful farm to table restaurant near by, pricey but highly recommend.

Thank you for staying with us, we hope we see you very soon again🥰
Great location to expore snaefellsnes peninsula from for our family. The apartment is well equipped and spacious. We loved the farm setting. It would have been nice though to have been informed of the need to boil water for drinking ahead of time. We arrived late with no water and boiling then cooling water to drink was tedious when arriving tired. Had we known we could have picked up water at a store on our drive in. Otherwise, great stay.

We stayed here in winter and loved it.
Glacier tour is close by in Hustafel and had a wonderful horse back ride in nearby Budardalur. This house has great views and big windows. It was super comfortable for our family of four.

About the host
Hosted by Arny Helgadottir
Mrs. Árný Helgadóttir, Mr. Magnús Leópoldsson and our family welcome you to our farm on Hvassafell II. I am a MSc nurse and a certified guide and my husband is a realtor. For the past 10 years we have been establishing farming and tourism, which is our interest, as we are both born and raised on a farm. Our three daughters and grandchildren are also interested in countryside living and as a family we enjoy spending time together on the farm.
Why they chose this property
We both grew up on a farm, and it has been our lifelong dream to establish our own farm. We were interested in merging farming with tourism, to give our visitors the opportunity to experience the Icelandic farming tradition, as well as the possibility to “refill their batteries” in the peaceful nature of Borgarfjörður. The location is perfect, as it is not too far from Reykjavík city, and yet the area is quiet, so it is an ideal place to experience the calming influences of nature.
What makes this property unique
First and foremost, we purchased this property because of its beautiful mountain view. Furthermore, the land is optimal for raising sheep and horses. Nearby, there are a variety of hiking and horseback riding paths, which is preferable for our interests, for we enjoy hiking and horseback riding in the beautiful Icelandic nature. Especially enjoyable are the Northern Lights, for this area turned out to be a unique site for viewing them, during the fall and wintertime.
