About this property
Tadpole ~ From Furniture Maker to Cozy-Hide-Away
Our Tadpole Cabin has the perfect blend of huge windows showcasing it's deep--in-the-heart-of-the-gorge-hollar location and the comfortable coziness of modern ammenities and a well-styled space.
Tadpole was designed over 15 years ago by a local chairmaker and timber framer. The bones of the cabin were hand-hewn and assembled on-site. Since then, we've finished the rest of the space and added a full kitchen, bathroom complete with a flush toilet, sink and shower and a romantic-rustic woodstove.
Tadpole is located at the end of a small gravel road here in the center of the gorge and the views from the main living room windows and elevated side porch are fantastic anytime of the year. Perched on the side of a hardwood hollar, there are a show of trillium in the summer, a vibrant green sea of leaves in summer, amazingly sunny reds and oranges come fall and the best, quiet and private, snowscape in January and February. We highly recommend this cabin anytime of year!
There are two ways to access Tadpole: By car on the gravel road, or by hiking in from our main office, located on Nada Tunnel Road. The drive up includes a steep hill, some bumps and is easiest in a 4WD or AWD car if there has been rain, ice or snow. The hike in is about 0.5 miles on a private trail and takes you past huge mossy bolders and a small babbling brook.

Staying in a Red River Gorgeous Cabin is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Because all of our hand-built cabins are unique, we wish to inform you of their individual features so you can come prepared to enjoy your stay to the fullest.
Kitchen: Full kitchen includes a gas stove and oven, 1/2 sized refrigerator with freezer, large sink, toaster and coffee pot. Cookware, dishware, soap and kitchen linens are also provided.
Living/Dining: The main room downstairs hosts a large kitchen table fit for six, plus stools for eating at the kitchen bar and two futons. There is also a woodstove at this cabin, which you are welcome to use with extreme caution. Firewood is available to purchase (with at least 24 hour advanced notice) for $25 for 17 pieces of wood.
Technology: While Tadpole has electricity, it does not have wifi, a television or other electronics. We've chosen to create a space up there for our guests to focus on peace and quiet, rest, relaxation, the wilderness and each other.
Bathroom: There is a full bathroom downstairs with a sink, toilet and shower.
Bedrooms: The downstairs bedroom has 1 queen sized bed and the 2 bedrooms upstairs have one full sized bed each. There are also 2 futons in the main living room space, which can be folded down and converted into full sized beds.
Additional Amenities: Small charcoal grill and private fire pit.
Please note that this cabin is at the end of a 3/4 mile, bumpy, sometimes muddy, gravel road. Small two-wheeled vehicles can make it to the cabin, but four wheel drives have an easier time. There is also a lovely 1/2 mile walking trail that connects from our main office parking lot to the cabin. Many guests enjoy leaving their car, and the modern world, behind them and choose to fully hike to the cabin.
