Great way to end our summer!

The cabin was much bigger than we expected- plenty of room for my husband and I (plus our doggie). The location was great, close to a variety of activities. We had a great time!

Comfortable place and great birding

The place is situated with a lovely view of the lake and ample space inside and out. The bed was comfortable and kitchen well appointed for cooking dinners. There was no place to walk the dogs along the lakeshore from the house but the state park is a nice spot and we mostly visited the many amazing wildlife refuges and great walking trails off highway 20.

Mindy, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Heron's Nest! We now have a walking trail on 5 acres of our property next to the house which is great for walking dogs while enjoying beautiful views of Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. We also have a picnic table situated there for relaxing while enjoying the view. Regards, Dave and Christy

Not as nice as expected

The property is located in a poor area. Junky neighbors everywhere. The property itself was clean enough, The kitchen is stocked so you can cook several different kinds of things which is nice. But I’m not sure the carpeting was swept or maybe just needs replacing. The bedroom mattress old, soft and is terrible! We woke up with back aches every day. The living room furniture is decent, but one arm keeps falling off the couch and the chair has holes in the fabric. Everything mechanically worked and it was nice there is a washer and dryer downstairs. The lake is absolutely beautiful. But know the lake bugs swarm you! Bug spray! The neighborhoods are very poor all the way around the lake. I would say 20% of the homes are nice, the rest are very trashy. Which does take away from the experience. Overall I would give a two to three-star but I definatley expected more.

Thanks for your feedback Tracie. We must admit we are a bit perplexed by your review. Our many other guests love Heron's Nest and the surrounding area and find our home and furnishings to be very well maintained, clean and comfortable. The bed has a newer pillow top mattress so I can only presume you are used to sleeping on something very firm. We get a lot of feedback about how comfortable and cozy our homes is. We have since replaced our couches in the living room with comfy new ones! Clear Lake is definitely about country living. Most of our guests enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding area, open space around our home and the beautiful lake views which it appears you did appreciate. We have a beautiful home located in a nice area of Clearlake Oaks where most of the properties are several acres and there are few homes in sight. We encourage anyone interested in Heron's Nest to look at our other reviews which reflect a much different experience than this guest. Clear Lake is a place to get away from the busy city life and enjoy the country and lake. We can appreciate that is not for everyone, but our home is one of the nicer vacation homes in the area and one of the best values available in the county. Regards, Dave and Christy

Nice property, good location

We recently stayed at Heron's Nest in Clearlake because I had spent summers there as a child and was wanted to go back. I wanted a central location, close to Hwy 20 and with a view of Mt. Konocti and the place fit that perfectly. When we arrived we did have trouble finding the place because it was up such a steep hill which doesn't look like a road but we were able to find it. It was a little challenging in a smaller vehicle because the area surrounding the property is gravel and on a slope so be aware. We also had trouble with the lock box on the door, it seemed to be jammed but were able to get it. When we got in the place it was simple, but clean and perfect for what we needed. We brought our own food and were able to cook meals there. Most items we needed were there (most basics), but you will need to bring all food items you need to cook. We forgot oil and cooking spray and most of the pans are not non-stick. There is only salt and pepper on site. The internet, t.v., and heater worked great. I just wish there would have been some games or family materials for the evening, we flew up there so couldn't take those supplies and there is only the t.v. I saw in a previous review about the sheets seeming old like they had the little balls from too much washing. It was noted that they had been replaced but I noticed the same thing on our sheets and the comforter has been well used. Also, my husband used the bbq one of the nights but the bbq was unclean from previous users and was very flimsy (we were afraid it might break on us). There was propane and utensils so we were able to cook our meal. I would say the place is very simple with minimal amenities but overall a good, relaxing place. If you hike up the hill to a meadow by the property you get a great view of Mt. Konocti. We even saw two deer and wild turkeys and enjoyed our stay.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Heron's Nest We appreciate the feedback and have addressed the minor issues with the sheets, comforter and the BBQ. The sheets were replaced some time ago, but the old ones were put out inadvertently. We have now disposed of them and have all new sheets. We have also replaced the comforter. The BBQ has been cleaned up, t was and is still working properly. We have purchased an entire new set of non-stick cookware and changed out the lock-box to an easier to use design. The road to our house is only uphill for a couple blocks and much less steep than many of the roads in the Clear Lake area. The Lake is surrounded by hills and to get the fabulous lake views we offer, you need to get a little elevation. Most of our guests find the modest incline well worth it! We are always looking for ways to improve the experience of our guests so thanks again for the feedback. Our future guests will benefit from the upgrades and new amenities. Regards, Dave and Christy

Just the ticket

Cleanliness is wonderful every time we have stayed at this property. Although it’s is nothing fancy it has everything you need including a spot to pull in a boat. Our only complaint is a dishwasher that needs replacing as it has given us trouble on a couple stays. This time if we were not home when it malfunctioned, it would have created some water damage that I am sure the owner would not have been happy about. If it is there on our next visit I think we will just wash our dishes by hand. Thanks you for the accommodations!

Dave and Christy's house was a great place for our family of three to get away for the weekend. It sits up on a hill and has a nice view of the lake, so it is remote and scenic and very peaceful. The house was very clean and the check-in/check-out process was easy.

A wonderfully large and luxurious house!

A wonderfully large and luxurious house. Nicely decorated and a good bed (150 cm wide and 205 cm long) and good shower. We have rented this property for a week after an intensive tour. That was very relaxed. In the area are still a few beautiful routes to drive and a few parks. From the house there is not directly a trail to the lake, there are no hiking trails. A lot of mosquitoes in the area at the time we were there (April) but no problems inside. Right next to the house is another house of the owner but privacy is guaranteed. With the owner, a quick and pleasant contact via e-mail is guaranteed. if you want to relax; Recommended!

Another good stay

The cottage is very comfortable. We have enjoyed staying at this location for several years and would book this location again in the future. As I have mentioned in past reviews, a 4 wheel drive vehicle is suggested to make access a bit easier.

Thanks for your feedback. Our cleaners have replaced the pillow covers and cleaned the light fixtures. We have replaced the sofas with some very comfy new ones! We were a bit surprised by this review as you stayed here previously and rated it 4 stars. We work hard to keep the home well maintained for our guests and the issues you note in your review do not seem to warrant a one star rating. Nice Place to Stay again

I have stayed at this cottage several times, and each experience has been good. As I mentioned in the past, it is a bit difficult to get to with a boat. A 4 wheel drive is suggested if towing. The owners are very responsive. I would once again suggest this cottage for a trip to Clearlake.

It fit the bill.

Overall, better than the motels in Lakeport. Yes, the bed is propped up with blocks in the middle. The picture of the front of the house is dated 8 plus years. It was clean but could of been cleaner. The approach is best by a truck and the turn around a 4 wheel drive. Killed a few spiders but that's to be expected with a place in the country. Easy to communicate with the owners and they responded in a timely manner. If I had to stay again, I would.
Stayed 13 nights in Aug 2018
Response from VrboOwner on 5 March 2020
Terrance, glad you enjoyed your stay. Appreciate the feedback, we just had our cleaners do a deep clean, we usually get good feedback on how clean they keep the home. Not sure what you meant by your comment about the photo of the front of house being 8 years old. It looks exactly like it did in the photo! It was recently freshly painted and in excellent condition. Not sure why there were blocks under the bed, we removed them and the bed is comfortable and in good working order. As indicated in our listing, we do require four wheel drive for the driveway if you are towing a boat. It is not needed for vehicles not towing a boat. Again, thanks for the feedback, we incorporate all the feedback we receive to make our home a great experience for the benefit of all of our guests! Many of our guests return year after year. Uncomfortable

Everything from utensils in the kitchen to the furniture in the living room was very very cheap and uncomfortable. The washing machine and dryer did not function correctly, old towels, broken bed, and a feeling that everything came from a garage sale. Oh well, it was affordable so you get what you pay for.

We are a bit surprised by your review. All of our furniture was purchased new and we purchased quality furnishings We have addressed the issue with the washing machine and the bed which was not broken upon your arrival is in good working order. We have also replaced our towels which we do on a regular basis. You were quite rough on our home we found everything moved around and in disarray after your departure. Most of our guests find our home quite comfortable and cozy as evidenced by our many other reviews. We have now replaced the couches in the living room with some very comfy new and have upgraded our utensils! A nice place to stay

This is a great place to stay. Perfect for 2 people especially for a fishing trip. The property is a bit difficult to get to with a bass boat. Would suggest a 4 wheel drive if towing a boat. Property is clean, with plenty of parking space. Inside is clean, but I cannot give 5 stars because I found quite a large bugs in the bed. Once they cleared there were not further problems during the stay. A nice place to stay. I would recommend it.
Response from VrboOwner on 5 March 2020
Thanks for your feedback Robert and for being a repeat customer. We have notified our cleaners and pest control service to resolve that - all clear now! Suspect previous guest left doors open as we have never had that issue in the past. We are located in the country so there are bugs outdoors that can get in if the doors are left open. We do recommend four wheel drive if you are towing a boat as you know. If not towing a boat, four wheel drive is not required. Glad that you enjoyed your stay and for recommending Heron's Nest to others. Hope that the fishing went well and hope to see you back in the future!! Regards, Dave and Chrsty

Wonderful

This was our first stay at the smaller neighboring property and it was wonderful. Clean and well equipped. We unfortunately booked during the time all the fires started in the area. We were notified by the property owners of the fire close by before we even had time to worry about it. Although the fires did not effect the property, the owners offered to alter our reservations if we needed. We stuck with our reserved dates and besides a little smoke, had a wonderful stay. We had about a half an hours worth of a nearby either car or home alarm going off early in the AM and the dishwasher is a little stubborn and needs a special touch to get working but other than those things, I would most definitely recommend this property for your next visit. For the larger groups, they have a bigger house that is just a joy to stay in right next door.

Peaceful getaway

This home is modern, well-cared for and in a quiet location with beautiful views. An outdoor deck would have made it perfect - but since it's on a cleared hillside there were plenty of places to set up chairs outdoors and a well-placed picnic table. The owners responded quickly to my questions, and I plan to return here in the future.
