About this property

Humble Cabin in Sequoia Park with crazy stars

At the gate of wilderness, the cabin affords a nice view of Sequoia's hallmark Moro Rock, and is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and small families with young children. Simple and convenient accommodations do not spoil the spirit of Nature, yet provide all the necessities for a comfortable and pleasant stay.
The cabin is located inside the park, just a couple minutes' drive from the South entrance. It is part of a small subdivision of about less than a dozen houses, mostly private vacation properties and family residences. The feel is more local than touristy; buildings are well spaced apart along the mountainside so as not to spoil the view. The cabin living/dining room windows offer stunning views of the surrounding mountain range.
The best swimming spot on Kaweah River is just a few minutes' walk away. A 30 minute drive brings you to the high mountain sierra Sequoia Grove. Crystal Cave and Mineral King are also within driving distance.

The cabin features a full kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, cooking utensils and dining ware, and an outdoor barbecue area with grill, garden dining table and chairs.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed. The upstairs loft can sleep up to three children or two adults. The living room futon transforms into a bed for extra sleeping space.

The living room and downstairs bedroom each have a flatscreen TV and DVD player. Currently, satellite TV is NOT available (however, please stay tuned... we are still working on improvements based on customer requests, and will post updates as they are made).

Nice cabin for my needs. Well stocked, had wifi. I was there for 3 days, mid-August. Hot outside, window ac was a bit loud, but kept me cool in 100F heat. Was there to hike Sequoia and watch stars. I was not disappointed.

The location of the cabin was perfect and located inside the park entrance. It is rustic and feels more like a mobile home rather than a cabin. It could use a good deep cleaning but the worst part was the smell coming from the window units. We didn’t use it for anything other than sleeping and eating a quick breakfast so it worked out. Overall it was fine, I just wish it had been cleaner.

This cabin is appropriately named. It is a great place for adults to stay to enjoy the national park that love the outdoors. The cabin is older and the furniture is no frills. It does have all that you need. a kitchen to cook with a decent amount of pots pans etc. The freezer has an ice maker which is always nice for filling a cooler. It is not near the Kawaeh River. You can hear it in the distance but cannot get to it from the cabin. It does have a great view of the mountains and was fun to drink coffee and watch the sunrise in the morning. The host was responsive and very easy to work with.

Vintage cabin, great location and views, could be nice. The property is in need of some basic upkeep, deep cleaning and repairs, stove and microwave not working, There is small microwave and convection oven on counter. Unpleasant smell in bedroom, as noted in other reviews. Wifi, but tv is basic, dvds available. Made the best it, still had fun. Go to the Gateway for drinks and dinner!

Not as clean as I would have liked. Cobwebs in the windows. Gas stove didn't work, but 2 burner hot plate and toaster over was provided. Evidence of mice, but overall a decent place for the circumstances. Drive from main road was tricky as there were several large potholes in the road. Very Steep drive!

Sequoia & Kings Canyon Visit

We found that the cabin had a wonderful view and lots of bird life around it too. Every day we saw a family of quail. The access road to the cabin is very steep though, the toilet was very wobbly, and the cabin had an odor. We really appreciated the high-speed internet access as we had no cell service of any kind at the cabin. We also appreciated the kitchen and basic collection of cooking and serving utensils for making meals. The best part of the cabin really is that it is accessed from within Sequoia National Park saving the hassle and time of re-entering the park every day. This was a very convenient location for exploring Sequoia National Park though it was a distance from Kings Canyon.

Not really as listed

The cabin is quaint, older and obviously needs some repairs. If you are expecting the Hilton or upscale airbnb this isn’t it. But it was very quiet and peaceful, you can hear the nearby river. There definitely is a weird odor, especially in the bedroom (animal urine?). Biggest gripe was that it clearly lists that it has both a charcoal and propane BBQ on site. We brought food specifically for BBQing. Neither where there, stove does not work and there is just a hot plate, tiny microwave and a toaster over. Had to go to town and buy a BBQ so we could make dinner. Really felt misleading.

Location

You stay here to skip the line, stay inside the park, and just sleep. Stars ARE incredible, but we were distracted by the “ick” inside. Ideal for a small group who just needs a tiny place to crash with a (wobbly) toilet, hot water, and a fridge. And WiFi. But yeah, not relaxing or “nice”. Backpackers, yes. Your mother in law, no.This property is struggling to keep up with big maintenance like roof & rodents, and has significant cleaning issues. Previous posts aren’t wrong or exaggerating. Views are incredible. Drive in is steep with deep potholes, but we did it in sedan. We got the hell out of there at first light.

BASICALLY A TINY HOUSE THAT HAS MICE AND BAD SMELL DUE TO MICEDecided to book bc our trip was to Sequoia and Kings Canyon, came in and there was a bad smell in the bedroom. Just to list out the property detail issues- toilet is wobbly- no stove/oven- no grill- road to house is STEEP- trash is on top on the hill, since you’re at the bottom you need to drive or walk all the way up- lost electricity due to storm and no generator - house is very small, second floor “room” is a crawl space basically We realized there were mice when we found our bread chewed up and it kept happening. Had to throw out groceries due to loss of power and mice. The host was responsive on the WiFi issues and just said to be patient about the loss of power, but once I mentioned the mice to the owner and property manager, NO ANSWER. We left the last night and had to change our plans bc the mice issue was really bad with droppings all over the kitchen and the smell unbearable in the bedroom (dead mice and urine)

beautiful place poorly maintained

Was once a great cabin. But not kept up. All the electric circuits on one side of cabin on the same 15 amp breaker. Couldn't run both a/c units at same time. Had to keep resetting breaker. No gas in tank - so no stove. There was a hot plate and pizza oven, but took a long time to make meals. TV provided to watch nice collection of DVDs, but t.v. didn't work. Handles came off both sinks. When I called maintenance, she kept saying, "Sorry" but never fixed.Did enjoy the view and the friendly wild turkey that visited us every morning.

Filthy. Mice. Host doesn’t care.

This place is infested with mice. Host has made no attempt to block multiple easily visible entry points. Clearly they are aware of the issue as they told us where the traps were (only one of which was working) but told us since they were “wild” mice (as opposed to pets invited in?!?) they couldn’t do anything. House is filthy with rodent droppings and general grime. Smell of dead mice very strong in back half of house, with attempt to mask (in vain) with air fresheners. Clearly hasn’t been cleaned properly as there were dirty socks and bandaids when we arrived and when I wiped down surfaces, the towel came up dark gray. Stove doesn’t work and the promised grill (propane or charcoal) is nonexistent.

Quaint and quiet

This property is off the beaten trail in a very quiet neighborhood. It has a porch to enjoy the sunset and stars at night. The kitchen is adequately stocked. We cooked all our meals in the cabin. The bed is amazingly comfortable and the shower was clean. It could use a good cleaning removing dust bunnies from the corners and some old wood and a broken chair from the front of the cabin. I would stay there again.
