Excellent

This property is full of charming historical character. The beds were very comfortable, but the personal touches truly make this place shine. The home owners are very gracious and left specific kid-friendly snacks for my young children. One room is set up with a doll house, a toy box, books, games, and a tepee. The kids (5yo, 3yo, 10mo) loved it and want to know when we can return. Very close to major Pittsburgh attractions.

Great house, great location, great owner

First the house: the big rooms (main bedroom enormous), high plastered ceilings, and gorgeous furniture makes you feel like you are in Europe. The kitchen is well appointed, with surprisingly high quality dishes and glassware...not what one usually encounters in a rental. The complimentary tea, coffee, and cookies were much appreciated. Board games and toys galore (although we were four adults we did set up a pretty wicked Thomas the Train layout!) Location: a quiet, friendly residential area. Close by is a great restaurant strip where we enjoyed breakfasts at Lila's and an exceptional Thai meal. 10 minutes away is a subway stop which will take you FOR FREE(!) across the river to the downtown area. We also had a wonderful urban walk one day across one bridge, up the famous funicular, and back across another bridge to the downtown area. The owner Elena: she answered my initial email immediately, and continued to be extremely helpful throughout our trip. Elena provided a binder with a map and all the menus of the local restaurants, so you can have a clear idea about where you might want to eat. She was also available by text the whole time we were there. Although we never met in person, we all felt like we knew her by the end of our stay. A really top-notch experience for us all.

Great Haunted Style experience with an odd setup

The apartment is absolutely gorgeous. The only tv is in the smaller bedroom which is odd. On top of that the tub can be a little diffixult to navigate. That being said it was an utterly wonderful experience and was a fantastic stay!

One week in house.

The house is mainly nice, but things such as one towel per person for a week and the front door lock not being terribly secure, (no deadbolt) were things that made my review less then a five. The TV is in one of the bedrooms, as the living area is taken up by a large dinning table. The owners were very responsive when there was a leak in the roof from very heavy rains and they came quickly to fix it . The neighborhood has a mixed feel to it, some homes are beautiful, others needing much repair. The front of house is somewhat deceiving, it looks as though the home needs some care, but from the back side it improves and has a cared for appearance. It is over all a nice house, but the set up is odd and there are things that could be benefit from more care and thought.

Nice

This was a strange rental because driving up to the house it looks haunted with unkempt landscaping and neglected house repair. The entrance is in the back from an alley where you find a beautiful garden leading to the entrance into the kitchen. The kitchen is sparse in functioning appliances. No toaster! Silverware for 4 people! The bedrooms were adequate and the teepee in the second bedroom was a nice touch. The bathroom toilet got plugged up after two days of use by 3 adults and 1 child. The neighborhood is primarily segregated but it seems safe for walking in daylight. The neighborhoods around the house were amazing with historic charm. I don't think I would stay here again but would look for another home near by.

Good location

This property is in a cool historic area. It's close to the stadium which is a plus, and is easy to access. Ideal property if one plans to be out and about and not spend all day at the property watching TV. No living room, but a huge dining table takes up what might have been a living room at some point in the home's 140 year history. You must ask for washcloths and privacy curtains for the master bedroom, and I believe the owner is addressing lack of locking window in the other bedrooms. Prior reviewer indicated it would be perfect for a large Thanksgiving dinner, and I agree. I recommend emailing the owner with questions before booking. She was very helpful in resolving our issues - good customer service.

Classic Victorian Row House

Location is fantastic if your stay is focused on downtown there is no need to rent a car Uber is everywhere in 5 minutes and Pitts public transportation is easy and fast. Home was very neat and clean and comfortable. Owners are very friendly and we didn't hear a neighbor during our stay. We will definitely stay again. One suggestion I would make is to put a TV in the bedroom off the hallway.

Walking distance to Steelers and Pirates games

This was our fist time in Pittsburgh and we loved it. We came to town to see a Steelers game and couldn't have stayed in a more convenient location. Elena the owner was very easy to communicate with via email and text. She keeps the place very clean and has some menus on hand from local restaurants...we had two of the best burgers ever at Benjamins, which is less than a mile away. The only reason we're not going with 5 stars is the lack of a screen to watch sports on. There is an awesome parlor/dining room with really nice furniture that would be great for a Thanksgiving dinner, but not very useful for a vacation rental. We ended up watching the afternoon and prime time football games at the nearby casino...if there was a couch and TV in that room, we could have saved a fortune! With that said, great location + great owner = I'd stay there again.

Over booking

We have used VRBO and HomeAway for years with our traveling and whenever possible. The worst problem we've ever encountered until today was a property's WiFi not working! Never have we arrived at a destination before to find they had given our quarters away to the SECOND party they had made reservations for AND did not give us any notice prior to arrival when they discovered their error yesterday AND did not make any effort to help find other lodging in the city. I truly believe that the fault is not s so much with the owner but is really that of the property manager who does not seem to be at all competent. I am a licensed Realtor and Real Estate professionals know better than to think they can just punch a few characters on their keyboard and have reliable data! I'll be they have a hard copy contract with this owner! This ridiculous set of events was blamed on our having booked too far in advance? Really? And, within the past week we had confirmed the reservation with the owner? AND we have to WAIT for HomeAway to refund our money THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE USE OF FOR MONTHS? Beware of having confidence on this one!

Cozy, comfortable, quiet

House was very cozy and comfortable. No problems with neighbors, lots of privacy. A well preserved antique (140 years old) with real wood floors. Photos were accurate. We were blessed with cool weather so AC wasn't required. Owner will provide an AC if you require one. Stayed 6 nights with no issues. Thanks
