Great Location, Comfort, Value
Wonderful neighborhood with cafes, bakeries, convenience stores, shopping, etc., within walking distance of the three museums we wanted to visit – Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Cluny – as well as other iconic Paris sites. Loved the location!! When you step into the secured courtyard from the street, it is its own little quiet oasis. The apartment itself has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Appreciated very much the prepared booklet that explained everything about the apartment and the area. The property manager, Christine, could not have been more helpful in welcoming us personally and orienting us to the amenities both in and around the apartment. Given the location, the charm and comfort of the apartment, we feel that it was a very good value and made for a very pleasant sojourn in Paris."

This sophisticated flat is located in the historic city center of Paris, off the Rue Saint Honoré, a block from the Louvre and Palais Royal, and a stone's throw from the Pont des Arts footbridge which spans the Seine. The central location means you can walk in every direction without needing transportation, making the most of your time in the City of Light. Whether you aim to be first in line at the Louvre, Ladurée, or at Louboutin across the street, you are in the heart of the city.

The apartment is located on the courtyard of a building dating from 1713. Imagine riding under the porte-cochere on horseback before dismounting in the charming cobbled court. The property is quiet (and guests should be mature and respectful of neighbors) and a wonderful respite from the activity on the one-way street full of commerces and cafés. Walls are thick and keep the apartment cool in the summer. Windows glazed with antique rippled glass face the charming courtyard graced by our resident black cat.

For close-by exploration you have a choice of "quartiers": the colorful cobblestones of Montorgueil, the local Village Louvre-Rivoli, the sophisticated shops of the Palais-Royal and Petits-Champs area. A quick stroll across the river is lively Saint Germain des Prés.

This spacious one-bedroom is 58m2/ 625sq ft, almost 5x the size of a typical hotel room in this dense city.

The living space is comprised of a lounging area and typical oval bistro table. The fully equipped kitchen is open to the dining and living areas, convivial to enjoying fresh croissants from the many bakeries nearby or a home-cooked meal with fresh ingredients from the colorful marchés.

The living room sofa converts in a single movement to a high quality queen bed (140cm). Or, for additional single guests, the ottoman converts to a twin bed and can be rolled to the desired location.

In the spacious bedroom, a pillow top king bed (160cm) awaits in a sleeping alcove off the bedroom, ensuring luxuriant sleep nestled in 100% cotton sateen or linen sheets and 100% anti-allergen goose down duvets and pillows (for all beds). *Note that the historic structural beam of the bed nook may be low for guests taller than 5'-9" as it measures 1m72-1m74 and tall guests should be mindful of hitting their forehead.

The bedroom features a comfortable sitting area with two down-filled velours armchairs to relax in while enjoying the entertainment options. Added amenities are USB plug outlets throughout the apartment, making charging adapter-free for all your devices. Free calling to local landlines and 100+ countries from the cordless phones let you stay in the know or keep in touch with friends and family.

The bathroom features a double sink, full-size soaking tub and separate spacious shower, and a warming heater for the oversize bath towels. The toilet and clothes washer are separated by a door. Other amenities include a laundry line, steam iron, hairdryer and digital scale.

The flat is one floor up comfortably wide, flat stairs, more manageable than tiny one-person elevators. A "gardienne" lives on site, and there are two secured building entry doors before the apartment's 5-point entry lock, ensuring peace of mind.

Innumerable cafes, bistros, wine bars, shopping, museums, churches in every direction, all within a five minute walk.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a native Californian and currently split my time between Los Angeles and Paris. A first career in international luxury goods distribution was complemented by a family life which straddled three continents (USA, Europe, Asia). I have 20+ years experience as an interior architecture and landscape design professional. In Paris I help HNWI foreigners with all aspects of investing in the property market, as well as redesigning and renovating their perfect Paris pied-à-terre.
Of all the places in the world, Paris is the city that always captures my heart, and which I consider the best city in the world in terms of scale, civic amenities, architectural integrity, historical preservation, urban development, parks and open space, international-mindedness, not to mention the incomparable arts and culture. I have been spending time in France, and Paris in particular, since 1983, and it still takes my breath away.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood of the Louvre-Palais Royal is one of the oldest in Paris, the area where royalty and the court lived. If you're going to spend time in Paris, live like the kings and queens in the right "quartier"!
I chose this apartment for the historical neighborhood and amazing central location. Although you can walk everywhere worth going in minutes, or bike there even faster, it is also a transportation hub for buses and trains. When I walk through the porte cochere into the courtyard, I imagine arriving in a coach, horses hooves clip-clopping on the pavers. The Oratoire du Louvre around the corner was the Royal Chapel of Louis XIII who held court next door at the Louvre, and Saint Eustache where the kings were baptised is up the street. I love getting off at my bus stops at the Pont des Arts or at the Louvre and walking through the grandeur and symmetry of the Cour Carré, still home to fashion royalty, and catching a few bars of the flutists or cellists or opera singers who perform under the archways.

What makes this property unique

There is really no such thing as the "typical" Parisian apartment, as the buildings in each "quartier" or neighborhood were erected within the context of a specific historical period. For example, the Latin Quarter is a medieval warren of narrow staircases and tiny rooms, but palatial apartments with rooftop terraces on the Champs de Mars and in the 16th arrondisement cater to the high society and large families of the Haussmannian era. Working class apartments line the Seine north of the Rue Cler area, built for dock workers unloading materials for the western development, while stone-cut mansions pepper the Marais where the kings and corrupt ministers set up their mistresses.

What I love about my current home is the charming courtyard view which is a quiet retreat from the activity of the lively street outside and calm place to regather energy before going out into the bustling city again.

The ceilings are low and cozy, a reminder from the 1700's that the floor above the shops at street level were often workshops or lodgings for shopkeepers.

I always get a good night's sleep nestled in the alcove which has no windows, and allows me to wake with soft side-light coming in from the bedroom sitting area window in the morning.
