About this property
Groovy 1970s Home in central Indiana with basement full of entertainment!
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway—a true step back into the 1970s, just like the home your parents or grandparents may have had. This is not a modern, newly renovated space, but a lovingly preserved authentic vintage home, full of original character, charm, and nostalgia.
Situated on 1-acre in the heart of central Indiana, the home offers plenty to enjoy both indoors and out. A fully finished basement features arcade games, a dance floor, and retro entertainment, making it perfect for relaxing, reminiscing, and having fun with family or friends.
******A True 1970s Experience******
Each room has been meticulously decorated with authentic 1970s décor, much of it original to the home. This includes much of the original flooring, such as shag carpeting and other period materials, which naturally show wear consistent with their age. Guests should expect original finishes, furnishings, and fixtures rather than modern replacements.
Because of the home’s age and original materials, guests may also notice a subtle vintage or “old house” scent, which is part of the home’s authenticity and charm.
This home is best suited for guests who appreciate history, character, and retro design. If you are seeking a brand-new, hotel-style space with pristine, modern finishes, this may not be the best fit.
******Bedrooms & Bathrooms******
Master Bedroom
Includes all original furniture and royal blue curtains, a new Sealy mattress, high thread-count sheets, and an attached master bathroom with beautiful original baby-blue fixtures. Plush bath towels and soaps are provided.
Second Bedroom
Decorated in purple to match the original purple shag carpet and curtains. Includes a queen bed and vintage furniture and décor sourced from Florida.
Third Bedroom
Features a custom painted mushroom mural on the focal wall, original yellow and green shag carpet, and two twin beds that can be pushed together to form a king if desired.
Down the hall, you’ll find a linen closet stocked with toilet paper and extra towels, along with a hall bathroom that includes the original avocado-green fixtures.
******Living Spaces******
The formal dining room includes original floral curtains, all original dining furniture, and vintage dishes.
The formal living room features original furniture, a vintage TV/radio/record player, an organ, original curtains, and sculpted carpeting.
The family room is cozy and retro, with a working console TV connected to satellite service. A sliding patio door opens to the back patio with retro patio furniture and a large, peaceful backyard.
******Kitchen******
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook a meal and features an avocado-green refrigerator, stove, and matching sink. A crockpot, functional vintage microwave, and booster seat are provided. (Please note: the dishwasher is non-functioning.)
******Basement Fun******
The basement showcases original red shag carpet and includes:
-Bar area and cozy sitting space
-Dance floor with gaming table
-Cabinet full of retro games
-Ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, pool table, skee-ball, vintage bowling machine, and an arcade game
There is also a laundry room with a vintage harvest-gold washer and dryer.
******Vintage Items & House Rules******
Many items in the home are original, vintage, or one-of-a-kind. We kindly ask all guests—especially those traveling with children—to respect these items:
-Please do not move vintage décor or take vintage items outdoors
-Please do not use vintage décor as toys or costumes
-Please report any damage immediately so we can address it properly
We do provide select vintage clothing specifically for guests to dress up and enjoy a photo session if they choose. These items are meant for light, indoor use only and should be treated with care and respect. Please do not wear them outdoors or use them for play.
Preserving these items allows us to continue sharing this unique experience with future guests.
******Cleanliness & Occupancy******
The home is professionally cleaned between every stay. We do not charge a separate cleaning fee; cleaning is included in the cost of your reservation.
Our pricing is based on the number of guests, as higher occupancy results in increased cleaning and wear on the home. Please ensure your reservation accurately reflects the total number of guests staying overnight or visiting the property.
Guests have full access to the entire home, including all living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, the fully finished basement with arcade games and dance floor, and the spacious 1-acre yard—perfect for relaxing, playing, or exploring. The only off-limits areas are the garage and one locked owner’s closet in the basement, which are not accessible during your stay. Otherwise, make yourself at home and enjoy the entire space!

About the host
Hosted by Michelle Shaffer
This property has been in our family for over 170 years. We love this area, and the peaceful street where we live. We fly hot air balloons, we garden, and have chickens. We boat, kayak, and tube on the river in the summer. We love sharing this amazing "piece of dirt" with others. Though we live next door to this house, we do not interrupt your privacy during your stay.
Why they chose this property
The home seems removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, but it is still within driving distance of so much. There are connecting neigborhoods with sidewalks and bike paths, there are parks, the river and lakes that we enjoy in the summer.
What makes this property unique
This home has a 1-acre yard in a quiet residential area, but still close to so much. The decor of the home is unique, and will bring back so many memories - whether it's memories of your parents, or your grandparents home. We have tried to pay close attention to all the details and the things that made the 1970s so unique.
