This was a beautiful property located on the Shenandoah River in the historic Shenandoah Valley. The house was very clean and comfortable with lots of indoor and outdoor space for our party of five. The house was very well equipped with not only plenty of spices for cooking, but ketchup, mustard and salad dressings in the fridge! We enjoyed kayaking and splashing in the river, and visiting Shenandoah National Park as well as the surrounding towns of Front Royal, Winchester and Strasburg and the little longer commute to Washington DC.
That being said, there were a few drawbacks. Number one for me is that the pictures make the river look close by. It is not as it is a hike down a steep gravel drive to some steep railroad tie and gravel steps to the upper deck (very nice place to rest) and then more steps down to the dock on the water. I have moderate arthritis in both knees and back, and found the trip down to the dock challenging. The second issue we had (and this is a more personal preference) was the skylights in the upstairs bedrooms. Sure they let in a lot of light, but they also woke our 3 year old granddaughter up at the crack of dawn as well as my daughter. Some blinds that could be pulled down to cover the skylights at night would have been appreciated. Also, and many reviewers have mentioned this, there is a long gravel road to get to the property which does have it's share of potholes and bumps.
Overall, our experience was very enjoyable, and I will definitely recommend Overlook Cabin to others!
