Loved having our bachelorette trip weekend here! The VRBO is positioned in such a nice location and close to several restaurants, a food truck park, and coffee shops. It’s also the perfect place for a movie night. This was such a beautiful place, and we loved staying here!
Th bedrooms and showers are upstairs, a few of us were downstairs watching tv when water started coming through the ceiling. Turns out someone was showering upstairs. He changed bathrooms and tried to shower in a different room, but within minutes the water came through the ceiling in a different location. I immediately alerted the Vrbo assist and the host. The host responded that we weren’t closing the shower door properly and that it was user error. He was very condescending. A party of 7 had to use one shower for the weekend which was not what we had paid for. Saturday morning I tried making coffee only to find mold and a used coffee filter in the coffee maker. The mirrors were dirty. We found rodent droppings on the rug in the master suite. The outdoor kitchen described is not an outdoor kitchen. It’s a grill with no utensils. The inside kitchen had minimal essentials. I had to use the same pot to make multiple sides. They ask you to clean but there’s only one sponge. The front sink doesn’t have a stopper. We were looking forward to this stay, only to be stressed out and ready to get out of there.
This was an amazing place. Exactly as pictured and easy to get to. Had a minor issue with downstairs bathroom but it was easy to solve. Thank you for your recommendations for local places. I would definitely stay here again.
The charming property has a beautiful foyer, a spacious living room with a large projector screen, a pretty backyard, and comfortable rooms upstairs, each with their own bathroom. Being located in an old "historic" downtown sets it apart from the large majority of other options.

Zach, thanks for staying with us. We would be happy to host you again!
The McKinley Inn is a great place to stay in Elgin. The downtown location is perfect with restaurants and shopping that are all within easy walking distance. It's also very close to 290 with other restaurant options and grocery stores. The building itself is perfect for several people. It has plenty of room and each bedroom has it's own bathroom, which is definitely a plus. The outside area is also great with a patio and green area. The owner was very accommodating and responded quickly to our emails. It's a beautiful home with lots of perks!
