Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend, a family vacation, or a quiet escape surrounded by Alaska’s charm, the Cozy Cub Cabin & Soakin’ Salmon Spa promise warmth, comfort, and a stay that feels truly memorable.

* About the Property

Located just one mile from the Northshore entrance to Big Lake, this retreat includes two thoughtfully crafted spaces on one private property:

* The Cozy Cub Cabin

A warm, black-bear-themed getaway designed for comfort and connection. Inside, you’ll find beautiful wood finishes, cozy textures, and thoughtful details that make you feel instantly at home.

Features include:

Heated floors throughout for cozy comfort on chilly days.

Fully equipped kitchen with cookware, dishes, utensils, and appliances.

Walk-in shower and plush towels in a spotless, modern bathroom.

Laundry center for guest use — perfect for extended stays.

Comfortable living area with inviting décor and soft lighting.

Dining space ideal for meals, games, or planning your next adventure.

Every corner of the cabin reflects Alaska’s wild beauty, with small black-bear touches, local artwork, and warm tones that make it feel like a home away from home.

* The Soakin’ Salmon Spa House

A short stroll from the cabin sits your private spa escape — a playful, fishing-inspired retreat built for relaxation. The Soakin’ Salmon Spa House is decorated with hints of Alaskan fishing culture and “dock life” charm, offering guests the perfect place to unwind after a day on the lake or trails.

Features include:

Private hot tub — ideal for soaking after a day of exploring.

Cedar-lined sauna for a true spa experience.

Fishing- and salmon-inspired décor that makes the space uniquely Alaskan.

Plenty of space to relax before or after your soak.

The hot tub and sauna are available daily from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. to ensure peaceful evenings and proper maintenance time.

Please note: The sauna heater is electric — do not pour water on the sauna rocks, as this can damage the unit and pose a safety hazard.

* Location & Neighborhood

You’ll find the property in a peaceful Big Lake neighborhood about one mile from Northshore Road, offering easy access to Big Lake itself — a favorite spot for fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding in the summer, and snowmachining, ice fishing, and northern lights viewing in the winter.

While the property feels quiet and private, you’re still close to essentials:

Local grocery store and gas station (about 2 miles away)

A few restaurants and coffee spots nearby

Wasilla is roughly 20 minutes away for additional shopping and dining

The cabin is visible from the main road, but access is via a small loop through the neighborhood — just follow the simple turn-by-turn directions we provide for easy arrival.

Summer: Long sunny days, perfect for fishing, kayaking, hiking, or exploring Big Lake’s trails.
Fall: Vibrant colors and crisp air — ideal for cozy cabin evenings.
Winter: Snowmachining, ice fishing, and hot tubbing under the northern lights.

No matter the season, Big Lake offers endless opportunities for outdoor fun — and the cabin’s cozy interiors and spa house make it just as enjoyable to stay in as to explore out.

About the host

Hosted by Shelley Brook

Host profile image
We’re a husband-and-wife team who traded Texas heat for Alaskan adventure in 2021 — and we’ve never looked back. From the moment we arrived in Big Lake, we were drawn to the peaceful beauty, friendly community, and the chance to build a slower, more intentional life surrounded by nature.

With the help of our neighbor and friend, Dave, we hand-built the Cozy Cub Cabin and Soakin’ Salmon Spa from the ground up. Every board, nail, and detail was placed with care. What started as a simple dream to create a comfortable space for friends and family grew into something bigger — a place where others could relax, reconnect, and experience the magic of Alaska in their own way.

We love working with our hands, designing spaces that tell a story, and adding creative touches that make a stay feel warm and memorable. From the black-bear details in the Cozy Cub Cabin to the salmon and fishing themes in the Soakin’ Salmon Spa House, every part of our property reflects our personalities and the wild spirit of this place we now call home.

Hosting allows us to share that joy with others — to offer guests not just a place to sleep, but a space to unwind, laugh, and breathe in Alaska’s beauty. We take pride in keeping things spotless, functional, and comfortable, so you can simply settle in and enjoy your time here.

When we’re not hosting, you’ll find us outdoors — walking our dogs, exploring new trails, or soaking in the quiet moments that make Alaskan life so special.

We hope that when you stay here, you’ll feel the same sense of peace and belonging that made us fall in love with Big Lake.

Why they chose this property

When we first visited Big Lake, we knew right away this was where we wanted to build our home — and our dream cabin retreat. The mix of peaceful nature and genuine community made it feel like the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to everything you need, yet far enough to breathe, slow down, and take in the beauty of Alaska.

Our neighborhood sits about a mile from the Northshore entrance to Big Lake, giving guests quick access to the water for boating, kayaking, fishing, and relaxing by the shore. The lake changes with every season — sparkling under the midnight sun in summer, peaceful and snow-covered in winter, and alive with color in the fall. Each season brings its own kind of magic, and we never get tired of watching it transform.

We love that the neighborhood feels quiet and private, but still friendly. Neighbors wave as they drive by, kids play outside in the summer, and in winter you’ll hear the distant hum of snowmachines on the lake. There’s a real sense of community here — one that welcomed us with open arms when we moved from Texas in 2021.

The local grocery store, gas station, and restaurants are only a few miles away, making it easy to grab what you need without giving up the feeling of being tucked away.

Big Lake is the kind of place where life slows down just enough for you to notice the details — the scent of pine, the sound of geese overhead, and the calm that comes from being surrounded by water and mountains. That’s what we love most about this neighborhood, and what we hope our guests experience too: the quiet joy of Alaska, right outside your door.

What makes this property unique

The Cozy Cub Cabin & Soakin’ Salmon Spa is more than just a place to stay — it’s something we built with our own hands and hearts. Every detail, from the first board to the final décor, was chosen with care to create a space that feels warm, personal, and distinctly Alaskan.

What truly sets our property apart is that it was hand-built by us and our neighbor Dave, right here in Big Lake. This isn’t a mass-produced rental or a pre-designed cabin — it’s a custom-built retreat designed to blend comfort, creativity, and craftsmanship. The cabin’s black-bear theme brings a playful sense of Alaska’s wild character indoors, while the nearby Soakin’ Salmon Spa House celebrates the fishing and water life this area is known for.

Guests have their own private hot tub and cedar sauna, located in a separate spa house just a short stroll from the cabin. The spa space is reserved exclusively for each stay — never shared — offering a true sense of relaxation and privacy. Soak under the stars, unwind after a day of exploring, or enjoy the gentle warmth of the sauna on a snowy evening.

Inside the cabin, thoughtful features like heated floors, a walk-in shower, and a laundry center add a layer of modern comfort that perfectly complements the rustic charm. Each corner is styled to tell a story — cozy textures, handcrafted décor, and an inviting layout that makes you feel instantly at home.

But perhaps what makes our property most unique is the feeling it gives. Guests often tell us it feels like staying somewhere built with love — a place where everything has a purpose, and every stay feels a little special. It’s peaceful, private, and designed to help you slow down, breathe deeply, and experience the best of Alaska in comfort.
