About this property

Historic district, town to left bike path to right, beach straight ahead

Seaside historic Lewes, Delaware charms visitors all year long with quaint shops, restaurants, art galleries, maritime history, gardens and beaches. Walk/ bike to all of these. Bike path at end of street connects to Rehoboth and beaches. Soak up the full Lewes experience by staying close to town in this vintage Victorian house. A block to dinner at the Buttery or coffee at Azafran. Drink that extra glass of wine and save your meter money for you can easily walk home. We just added a ping pong table in the garage!

Come morning prop your feet up on the porch railing and experience this small town wake up. Snow geese honk overhead, boats toot horns and people will wave and say 'good morning.' Or nap hammock style under the pine bough in the secluded backyard garden. Walk and fish, boat or kayak in the Lewes canal. Cross over the canal bridge a half mile to the bay beach with a light house view. Hop the nearby ferry to Cape May to see more Victorian architecture and stores where you can pay sales tax. Then come back to Lewes to buy that expensive diamond necklace for there is no sales tax here in Delaware. Go to the Rehoboth outlets and save more especially off season. But don't forget we are at the beach so go the mile to Cape Henlopen Park. The surf, sun and sand are our main attraction. Here miles of pristine Atlantic beach stretch from the Cape to Rehoboth. You can even bring Fido to some. Swim in season, walk and collect shells or view migratory birds all year long. Cape Henlopen has miles of nature, bike trails and bird watching areas.

Too much fun in Lewes to list. We are the 'civilized beach' so come, slow down drive 25mph or park your car and don't drive. Here you can walk and bike everywhere!

We have a Rental license, displayed in side, from city of Lewes. House has all safety requirements and is routinely inspected by the city. License # R2300146.
New this year is we are providing towels and sheets!

My family and I had a great time in Lewes. The house is very well maintained, very well stocked and clean. We had 4 adults, 2 teens, one baby and 3 dogs. There was plenty of room for all of us and we all loved the backyard. Having 2 different sitting room areas was super helpful. The location of the house is really incredible. Just a short walk to downtown, very easy to get to the Lewes beach or the ocean beach at Henlopen park. We brought bikes and used the bike trail at the end of the street. We all thoroughly enjoyed the week and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent this home again. Thank you Caryl!

We really enjoyed our stay in Lewes. Perfect location for strolling into town and an easy drive to Cape Henlopen. Nice to be able to bring our dog who loved her walks around the block house pond. We would love to stay here again

Comfortable and convenient

This was a mini college reunion for 3 longterm friends and it was a perfect venue. The house was charming, spacious, clean and well-stocked. It was an extra plus to have the beds made and the towels laid out. The house is on a quiet street, walkable to the town center, restaurants, bike shop and the beach. Be aware that all bedrooms are up stairs and being an old house there is not a two-sided rail all the way up both sides of the staircase and the master bath is on the first floor while the two other 2nd floor bedrooms are joined and their bathroom is located in one of the bedrooms. But this is all manageable. We enjoyed using all the outdoor space- porch in front and deck in back. Communication with owner was quick and easy.

Relaxing vacation great location

The house is wonderful, comfortable, and easy to be in. Caryl takes care to make sure you have everything you need. The street is quiet, and both the front porch and back garden are lovely. The convience to town, the bike path, and the beaches make the location hard to beat.

Awesome

My husband and I felt at home in the rental. It was clean and the size and location were excellent. It was within walking distance to town, yet removed enough that we weren’t exposed to noise. We greatly enjoyed hanging out in the beautiful backyard with our dog, Laverne. We would rent it again without hesitation.

Summertime Lewes

Thank you for opening your home to us in Lewes. We had a wonderful time. The outdoor shower was amazing. The only place I showered the entire time. And all the flowers around the property were just beautiful. The house is the perfect spot. Centrally located to pretty much everything via walking and biking. And we did a lot of biking! Looking forward to the next trip already!

Adorable Victorian

Very cozy and comfortable. The owner is very nice, and communicates quickly. She left us a bottle of wine, and there were paper products all throughout the house. The sheets and towels looked brand new. There is AC, fans and night lights throughout.

There were many heavy webs at the front door upon our arrival. The side yard, where the high fence is, is full of dead plants, weeds, rusted furniture. A mess. Charming gardens, front and back, are very overgrown, making it difficult to find safe footing on the flagstones. Be sure to take your bug spray, chiggers and mosquitoes are abundant. My 38 pound dog stepped through a rotten board on the porch cutting her paw, concerning me. The steps are steeper than normal. The bathroom situation is not the most convenient. 1 bed has no bath. 1 bed has a small attached bath, BUT the 3rd bed is a BIG step down from that 2nd bed and you have to pass through the 2nd from the 3rd to get to the bathroom. Other bath is off the kitchen. All beds on 2nd floor Both baths appear to be newly remodeled. The house on either side and one across the street were being worked on, not this owner's fault, but very inconvenient. Add to that, the driveway that has a tall shrub on one side and a dead, ugly, useless shrub on the other, which scratched my bumper. I called the manager and he came, trimmed a little off, but I would not recommend taking any full size SUV or vehicle with towing mirrors. The listing says parking across street, or municipal lot. 75 year old ladies can't be carrying luggage from across the street. The oven was filthy, but the rest was moderately clean. Beach could be walking distance if you don't take chairs, books, snacks, etc. We've stayed at many nicer, affordable places near

Charm Charm Charm

We loved our stay at this charming home. The added amenities you don’t often find in a rental was a huge plus. The owner was very accommodating and her communication was consistently super quick. Spent every minute we were home on the lovely covered porch. Neighbors were all super friendly. The fenced in backyard is perfect for your fury family members. The walk to the many fantastic restaurants and shopping is literally minutes away. We will definitely be back.

As soon as we pulled up, we see a suitcase on the front porch, we were not sure if somebody was still in the property? Not sure if we should enter, when we opened the door we yelled hello! We hear music blaring in the back room, when we walked into the back of the house no one was there, did we interrupt someone there in the property.?? Weird. Secondly, looking around the house it had a strange odor of mildew and we saw thick dust in every vent, ceiling fans were loaded with dust and hair. Upstairs in the master bedroom as I was making the bed, there was a huge noticeable semen stain, absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! We could not sit on the outdoor furniture, it was either broken, rusted or filthy, weeds were everywhere. We were told that the beach was a five minute walk, which was wrong, deception in the description on VRBO. Blinds in bathroom were broken but the owner fixed by taping a cardboard tissue box. Tvs were not user friendly, limited options. The whole street seemed to be under construction, dumpsters lined the street with construction material filled in every one, nails on the street where we parked. That is not the owner’s fault but we should have been informed. One upstairs bathroom for 3 bedrooms to share with the tiniest sink imaginable. The whole house was extremely uncomfortable for us, we were misled by the owners on website, disguste that we paid a premium price for our stay, but did not have premium accommodations. We could not wait to get out of there. YUCK

Another rusted moldy filthy vent

Property was not ready for check-in at 3 p.m. It was still being cleaned by owner's son, who seemed surprised when I arrived but did leave in a hurry. Next, 10 feet from the house was a new house being built. Construction weekdays for up to 9 hours -- banging, hammering, sawing. We were not informed of this when we rented the house. This is not a house currently recommended for rest and relaxation! Also, the back of the house and back deck smelled of raw sewage. The upstairs toilet ran day and night. The oven was filthy and had a rusty sheet pan in it. The house does NOT have cable; it has Phillo streaming and no live sports or news. The kitchen cabinets are old and do not close. The back garden was not well-maintained, including rusty and rotting furniture.

Why they chose this property

Came to Lewes and LOVED it. Bought this house where our family vacationed for years. Now we own another Lewes house where we live but we do miss the close in location of Franklin Avenue house!

What makes this property unique

First the location, everything is walkable! Second our house has a living room and separate TV/Den. This means the TV can be on and the living room can be for quiet reading. Third the private patio backyard!
