About this property
Stone Gatehouse in Mt. Robson Park Near Jasper Nat. Park, Ab
*Please be aware that we cannot supply accommodation to sledders at this time.
The Goat's Head Gatehouse is a quaint, stone chalet designed in the image of National Park Gatehouses and is surrounded by the wilderness of Mt. Robson Park. The unique two story structure offers a sun room with floor to ceiling windows and a massive natural stone wood burning fireplace.
French doors open to a flagstone patio from which to enjoy a morning coffee or, for an evening barbecue to grill that perfect fresh caught trout. The patio overlooks a lovely flower garden with hummingbirds and butterflies and in the background, the glacial peaks of Mt. Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.
The post and beam structure of the Gatehouse was made from pine-beetle killed trees that were cut on the property. Stones for the exterior and interior were gathered locally from quarries and cliff sides but one stone from each of the mountain national parks of western North America were also embedded within the walls.
The wood furnishings and woodwork in the gatehouse were made locally by artisans using reclaimed and recycled wood.
The kitchen contains all the amenities needed to make complete meals and make your stay comfortable. It will be equipped with many staples and pantry items so you need not purchase bulky products to carry around e.g. coffee, tea, condiments, spices, oils, vinegars, etc.
There are two baths, one with a free standing large tub in a cedar plank spa-like bathroom---a perfect way to relax and refresh after a day of sight-seeing or hiking. A walk-in shower with stone walls for that ‘au natural’ feeling is on the main level.
The two bedrooms in the loft each contain a queen, custom-made platform bed---both bedrooms overlook the sun room from a balcony. Each bedroom opens to the upstairs bathroom.
Take a gentle hike right from the front door into pristine meadows (a short trail has been mapped out for you) or walk around the twelve acre private property to find the best view of Mt. Robson and Swift Current Creek. A natural waterfall on Swift Current Creek is 300 meters from your door. Sometimes the view is so stunning it's difficult to know which direction to point your camera!
There are many walks and hikes within 5 km of the Gatehouse. Rearguard Falls is the furthest point of travel for Pacific Salmon and they can be seen in late summer by driving a few km and taking a short walk to the waterfall. Overlander Falls and Hargreaves Canyon are scenic short hikes that are also staging areas for raft tours and high level kayaking. The Trail head for the Swift Current Creek trail starts within walking distance of the Gatehouse and leads up the Revelation Valley (Swift Current Creek) to the head wall of the 91st highest waterfall in the world (currently inaccessible except for real adventurers). The world famous Berg Lake Trail and the start of the 110 km long north boundary trail are also within 5 km.
There are restaurants and shops in the nearby towns of Valemount and Jasper---a 55 minute drive---that offer additional amenities, recreational activities and, world renowned mountain vistas.

We had a wonderful stay here. It was perfect for our family of four. Very clean and beautiful home. It had everything we needed. We loved how the family area was all glass windows so you could feel the nature all around you. We couldn’t have been happier.
What a beautiful home! Comfortable, modern, well equipped and gorgeous design. Quality throughout, and the loving attention to detail really comes through. Thank you for sharing it with us. The location for exploring Mt Robson is second to none!
just what we wanted, a great place in nature. appreciated the ease of the checkin / out process and knowing owners were available if we needed anything.
This is a high quality vacation home tucked away in the woods. The home was very clean and allowed for some solitude during the busy tourist season in the national parks. The host was very responsive when asked for local recommendations. I would definitely stay here again!
This beautifully decorated and landscaped retreat in the woods was perfect for our visit to Mt Robson Provincial Park. The hosts were Outstanding with communication and you could feel and see the love and care that they give to their lovely retreat and their guests. Many Thanks for a Wonderful stay in the majestic area and for sharing your perfect getaway home.
Perfect place if you want an intimate getway outside of town. The home is beautiful, and relaxing. Your 30 minutes from town and hour to Jasper, but very easy drives. I would definitely stay again.
Quiet, clean, beautiful property. This is a unique property with beautiful stone and wood features. The owner is an excellent communicator and provides helpful ideas about the area.
The Gatehouse was a very charming cottage with all the amenities! Great location & loved hiking on the grounds…especially to the beautiful waterfall. The host, Carmen, responded quickly to all my inquiries & was very helpful in providing information on the area. I highly recommend The Gatehouse!
Great place to stay. Very slow internet and no cell service. Helpful to completely disconnect from the grid for a short while in these tough times. Lots of great walking trails nearby.

You can get cell service using wifi calling---easy to use our wifi to make or receive any calls from anywhere---sorry if you did not read the information in the package.
Absoulutely marveloius stay, felt like we were in a log cabin right in the heart of nature. A very well equiped home. This is a remote spot 60 minutes drive to the main town of Jasper, so it was important to stock up on food before arrival at the property. We were fortuante to be staying with family as the open bedroom arrangement was a liitle awkward as not very private.

I’m sorry to hear you weren’t completely satisfied with the accommodation. All of your issues are addressed on the listing as well as in the House’s literature:
1) we do not hide the fact that we are in a rural/isolated area— that is one of our attributes that most guests love
2) there is a full service town 20 minutes away- while we supply more than most kitchen amenities, it is incumbent that the guests supply ( and arrive with ) their own fresh ingredients
3) the loft situation is described and detailed on the listing including photos of the arrangement— the only sharing is the ‘jack and Jill’ full bath and, there is another bathroom with a walk-in shower on the main level
Beautifully Architected Gatehouse near Breathtaking Mount Robson
The gatehouse is a unique, charming, and architecturally impressive accommodation that is surrounded by trees yet from which Mount Robson can be glimpsed. The cottage is clean, beautifully appointed, and comfortable. As a single traveler, I felt completely at ease. Carmen was an exceptional and thoughtful host. I feel very fortunate to have discovered this lovely accommodation.
We had a wonderful stay here halfway through our roadtrip. We stayed for 4 nights and it was great to have a large space to ourselves instead of being crammed into hotel rooms. We received very detailed directions and on arrival there was a welcome card, flowers and a bottle of wine. The lodge had everything we needed with a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer facilities, high quality equipment and plenty of towels and toiletries in the bathrooms. Helpful directions for local walks and bear spray. The lodge is beautifully fitted out and we loved all the wood, the bespoke staircase and huge windows looking out onto the lovely garden. If we were lucky enough to make it back to Canada we would defiinitely stay here again. Thank you, Carmen and Glen
Perfect all around! On the outside it’s a cute English cottage with nice flower boxes accenting the stone. Inside is a warm mountain cabin. Love all the windows and wood.
This home is spotless, clean, well kept. The owners are nearby, respond quickly to all questions. Wonderful stay, would highly recommend!
The Stone Gatehouse was exactly as depicted and did not disappoint! Plenty of room for two couples. Carmen & Glenn were extremely friendly and helpful. And although we never saw any signs of any wildlife on our hikes around Mt. Robson & Jasper, it was nice to have the Gatehouse's bear spray at our disposal.
We loved our stay at the Stone Gatehouse. It is well-appointed and comfortable. We had everything we needed for a wonderful 4-night stay. The location is perfect being near Mt. Robson and Valemount. We were able to hike, enjoy great meals and simply relax in our cozy cottage. The architecture is truly beautiful and the owners take great care in the upkeep both inside and out. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It is a gem!

About the host
Hosted by Carmen Ottaway
We are anxious to offer our gatehouse to guests to enjoy the spectacular mountain vistas and diversity and abundance of wildlife in Mt. Robson Park. The Park sets an example of how wildlife works best i.e., left alone---allowing nature to take its course---little doubt that wildlife thrive in the Park. Ask to see our vast array of wildlife photos caught on our trail cameras: grizzly and black bears, cougars, lynx, wolves, coyotes, deer, elk, moose and the illusive wolverine along with a myriad of small mammals. Also of interest are the many birds and wildflowers that abound in this microclimate, one of the few inland rainforest areas in North America.
Why they chose this property
The owners are long time residents of the area. The property borders Swift Current Creek and offers a spectacular view of Mt. Robson---people say our view is unique in Canada.
What makes this property unique
Perhaps the most exciting part of living here is the wildlife---almost daily a black bear or a deer munching on new shrub growth can be seen in front of the sun room windows. The view is spectacular. The sound of Swift Current Creek is relaxing. The spring water (Norlander Springs) is the freshest and cleanest anywhere---makes for a great cup of coffee and, the air is always filled with the freshness of vegetation.
