About this property
Renovated farmhouse in idyllic rural setting with pool and magnificent views
Lovely 4 bedroom renovated stone farmhouse in an idyllic rural setting in the hills of northern Portugal. Within easy reach of Porto airport, 90 kms away. A place to get away from it all and completely unwind. Be as lazy or as active as you like. Ideal for those who love the countryside, authentic areas and the great outdoors. Hills and forests on your doorstep. 20 minutes to the scenic river Minho on the border with Spain. 25 minutes to beautiful blue-flag, white-sand beaches. Large secluded garden on terraces with pool, barbecue area and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding hills. Sleeps 9, ideal for families and groups. Spacious and fully-equipped open-plan kitchen/living room. 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Central-heating in all rooms, plus two log fireplaces. Table football and games in the adega (old winery) where there is also a bar and extra dishwasher. This games room leads out onto the barbecue area with a large outside dining table under the olive tree, with views across the valley to the mountains. Large selection of books in English. The salt water pool is fenced in with lockable gates, and this also has panoramic views. There are lots of nice walks in the area, straight out of the house. And there's much to explore in the area, from beaches, rivers and mountains, to old villages, farmer markets and restaurants. As day trips, Porto, Peneda-Gerês National Park and Galicia in Spain are all good ideas. We're officially registered for tourism as an Alojamento Local. We've been doing holiday rentals here since 2008 and we've had lots of happy guests. Summer is the most popular time to visit, but it's a lovely place to visit year-round.

About the host
Hosted by Adria Corrie(owner)

I live 5 mins walk down the lane. I'm English and have now been in Portugal since 1993, when my husband came to work for the Taylor's port wine group. Previously we lived in Brasil and USA. I love this scenic area of Portugal. It's very laid back, with little traffic and very few tourists. There are lots of places to explore in Portugal and Spain, including beautiful beaches, rugged mountains and market towns.
Why they chose this property
Officially registered for tourism as an Alojamento Local, we have been renting Casa das Oliveiras since 2008. We've had many guests, and we're happy that they've loved their stays. The house is very spacious, with plenty of room both inside and outside in the terraced garden. The view from the house over the green Covas Valley towards the Arga Mountain is spectacular. The kitchen is very well equipped, and guests love spending time in the garden with its pool, barbecue area and views.
What makes this property unique
Originally this was two small farmhouses which we made into one. It was a ruin covered in ivy when we bought it and restored it in order to rent out for families to come on holiday. There are many unique benefits, including the fact that the house is big enough for two families to share. It's very private, with its own garden and the pool overlooking the valley. I live just down the lane, nearby to give any help or advice if needed.
