The spacious house (550 m2) can accommodate up to 15 people and is exquisitely furnished throughout with Asian antique furniture and arts & crafts which presents a fascinating mixture of rustic country side atmosphere and sophisticated luxury . It consists of:
A welcoming entrance with Ming and Qing dynasty furniture that gives you a hint why the house is called “Le Manoir Oriental”. It really feels like you just stepped into the home of a high ranking servant of the Chinese Empire. If you turn right, you will enter:
A large salon/living room (100 m2) with wooden beamed ceiling and two grand open stone fire places – one at each end of the room. The room has three comfortable sitting groups and one piano which is at the musical guests’ disposal.
A teak staircase will take you to the upper floor where you will find three bedrooms, all with beamed ceilings:
1. Arabian nights: a bedroom in yellow and gold that features a double bed (180 cm), a sitting group and stairs leading up to the spacious bathroom with an antique toilet-table and its own Jacuzzi.
2. The Pink Pasha’s Retreat: a cozy French country style room in pastel colours with a 140 cm double bed, its own wc and shower cabin.
3. Mao’s little red: a stylish bedroom decorated with Chinese antique furniture and arts & crafts with a double bed (180 cm) and a spacious bathroom with wc, bathtub, and two basins and lovely views over the grounds
If you instead take the teak staircase down from the living room you end up in the billiards room which features an art gallery with Vietnamese oil-paintings, a full-size pool table and a darts board. Here you will also find bedroom 4
4. The Bedouin’s Bungalow: a spacious, cosy bedroom with two twin beds (100 cm each) and a large Chinese antique sofa that can be made into a third canopy-style bed. The room has its own wc and bathtub and its own entrance from the garden.
If you instead turn left as you enter the house’s entrée, you will come into the dining room which has a beamed ceiling, an large open stone fire place and a rustic wooden dining table that can seat 12 people.
The dining room has windows and doors on each side, one leading out to a large barbecue terrace where you can catch the late afternoon and evening sun.
The dining room has doors leading to the large country style kitchen with all modern equipment: gas stove that also has an electric heating plate, electric oven, microwave oven, two dish washers, fridge and freezer with ice-making machine and plenty of “workspace” to prepare and cook the delicacies of the region.
From the dining room, a staircase leads you to two more bedrooms:
5. The Jade Palace: in gentle green colours, beamed ceiling, a 160cm double canopy bed and a spacious bathroom in what is the “tower” of the manor. The bathroom has hand painted wash basins and wc, shower cabin and features its own Jacuzzi.
6. Ming Dynasty: a bedroom with beamed ceiling in light blue tones with 2 single beds (120cm and 100cm) decorated with blue and white China, antique paintings and a bathroom with its own bathtub and hand-painted wash basin and wc.
If you go through the dining room and past the kitchen you will enter the private suite called
7. The Sultan’s Suite: The Sultan’s Suite consists of a private library style salon with a sit-group and open fire-place. The bedroom has a 160 cm Spanish four poster double bed, country style Laura Ashley wall paper and a spacious bathroom with a large bathtub, separate wc and shower cabin.
Behind the Sultan’s suite there is a laundry room with washing machine and dryer.

About the host
Hosted by Christina Petzall
We are a Swedish family who lived in Shanghai for 20 years. This beautiful French Manoir was our escape to Europe during these years where we could enjoy a green and beautiful environment with historical villages, great food & wine and stunning castles and gardens around the corner. We have now moved back two Sweden with our two daughters so luckily we can visit the Manoir a bit more often, but we still like to share it with other people to enjoy when we are not there ourselves.
Why they chose this property
The first time we visited Sarlat was during our Honeymoon. We happened to come to Sarlat on a Saturday when the weekly, colourful market takes place and we were charmed by the beauty of the village. When we started to look for a property in France, the choice was easy. Since the first time we visited Sarlat, we have always wanted to come back and spend more time in this stunning area with so much to see and do. Just as we fell in love with Sarlat the first time we saw it, we also fell in love with the property the first time we saw it. It is exquisite in all aspects. It embraces so much history as it is built in the 17th century using the same building techniques as some of the castles in the area. The stone floors in the entrance and living room are identical to the Beynac Castle to which the property used to belong. The house is furnished with Asian antique furniture and decorated with beautiful arts and crafts from China, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. It all blends in surprisingly well with the rustic French Manor house. The house is surrounded by its own 10 hectares of land which makes it a green oasis with plenty of outdoor space to sit and relax, either by the pool or in the evening at the large BBQ terrace overlooking the green surroundings. Yet, it's only located 4 km from Sarlat with all its shops and restaurants.
What makes this property unique
A stunning house in a stunning location. Each of the 7 bedrooms have their own individual design and each has a private bathroom. 2 of the bedrooms feature their own jacuzzi and all of the bedrooms have wooden floors, beamed ceilings and are beautifully decorated with Asian arts and crafts. The house has two huge fireplaces, one in the dining room and one in the living room where it's cosy to sit and talk about the day's events and bright moments. The swimming which measures 6 x 12 meters is heated and surrounded by comfortable sun loungers and garden lounge furniture to enjoy the sun or the shade under one of the umbrellas. There is always a terrace with sun and always a comfortable shaded area depending on each guests preference. The BBQ terrace has shade in the morning and sun in the evening. It is an ideal place for larger groups of people as there are 15 beds total, so it is the perfect place for family gatherings or celebrating with friends.
