About this property

Historic Stone Farm Inn & Venue

Welcome to Stone Farm Inn, an 1856 farmhouse in the countryside of Madison County, just 60 minutes from Des Moines. Built by pioneer John Robert Drake, the home has been thoughtfully restored as a place for women to gather, families to reconnect and friends to slow down together. Designed for meaningful gatherings, intimate celebrations and weekends that feel almost cinematic, Stone Farm Inn is not a typical rental, but a storybook farmhouse made for connection, intention, and slower moments.

Our livestock guardian dog, Luna, lives on the property with the sheep. Her job is to protect the animals, and that occasionally includes barking through the night if coyotes are nearby. We do our best to keep her in with the flock, but if you know Great Pyrenees, you know they take their responsibilities very seriously and sometimes make their own decisions. Most guests find her presence reassuring, but it is part of country life.

We happily welcome well-behaved pets with a small fee. When guests bring their own furbabies, we make arrangements to have Luna safely confined so everyone feels comfortable. Just let us know in advance so we can prepare accordingly.

You may also meet Evelyn, our barn cat. Despite the name, Evelyn is very much a boy. He moves between barn and house as he pleases and considers himself quietly in charge of the property.

Surrounded by nature and dotted with photo-worthy details, Stone Farm Inn is where historic elegance meets contemporary style—perfect for creating memorable experiences. Our spacious farmhouse offers a unique blend of vintage character and cozy design. Each room is thoughtfully styled to balance comfort and beauty, ensuring you feel relaxed and inspired throughout your stay.

Stone Farm Inn features 4 bedrooms, each with its own personality. Enjoy luxurious pillows, comfortable beds, and decor that blends antique accents with a modern, relaxed vibe.

Outdoor Spaces:

Guests have exclusive access to the entire farmhouse and private yard area, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the serene countryside views. Feel free to unwind in the courtyard, gather around one of 2 fire pits, or enjoy a quiet morning coffee while watching the animals in the nearby pasture.

Please note that the surrounding barns and fields are part of a working farm and are not included in your stay. However, if you're looking to host a special event—such as a wedding, reunion, dinner party or retreat—our barn and additional outdoor spaces are available to rent. Just let us know, and we’ll be happy to help customize your event to create a truly unforgettable experience. Send us a message to inquire!

We want your stay at Stone Farm Inn to feel like a home away from home! While we respect your privacy, we're just a message away if you need anything during your stay.

If you're interested in learning more about the farm, meeting the animals, or would like recommendations for local activities, we’re always happy to share our favorite spots and experiences.

Highly recommend a stay at the old stone farm! The owner was super responsive and helpful leading up to and during our trip. The place is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed lazy mornings on the farm and ending out day around the fire pit at night. It was clean and cozy and the perfect background for curling up with a book and taking fun pictures outside. Our daughter loved getting to know all the animals and spent hours at the fence watching them do their thing and feeding them. The house is well appointed with everything you need to make fun dinners for the family or host as small gathering like we did. The house itself is a destination but it’s also an easy trip to Wintwrset or even Des Moines. Highly recommend you check it out. I’m sure it is beautiful in the spring and fall. Thanks for everything, Jessica. We’ll be back!

I came for a girls’ trip and this was the perfect place to stay. There were plenty of bedrooms and great vibes. My friends and I really enjoyed interacting with the animals. Also, the kitchen is very well stocked for cooking. I definitely recommend the accommodations and would stay here again! Jess was great as well!
