House was well appointed and comfortable. It sits lakeside with a dock, gorgeous mountain views. We were there for the Skagit Speedway race which was located nearby. Great for a quiet getaway as there are houses located nearby. Owners were easy to work with.

Great to have this group at our place. They kept the place neat and tidy. They are so polite. We are so glad we have such a large yard for parking, as they have a huge 3-car trailer for the racing. They never touched our beautiful Japanese maples. What an accomplishment. Definitely experienced driver. We would not hesitate to have them back any time. So respectful people.
We've stayed here a few times already and we absolutely love this place. The lake is perfect for swimming and paddleboarding. Don and Maribel are great hosts and very quick to respond. We will definitely be back again next year.
Stayed three nights with friends. House was clean and everything we needed was provided. There is a private dock and lots of lake toys. We would definitely stay again.

It was wonderful to have Nichole stay at our place. She and her company left the house in an immaculate condition.
We hope to have her back when the summer has really started, as we have lots of water toys to play with, from kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, rowing boat, you name it.
Beautiful place, relaxing, and great accomadations!!

It was a joy to be able to interact with Cecilia. Definitely there was no misunderstanding as we kept good communication. We wanted her and her family to get the most out of our place as her first short-term rental experience. We are pleased to have succeeded.
We hope to have her again in the future.
Wonderful stay. Bad luck with weather but still had great time with family indoors for extended weekend with family of 5. Comfortable mattresses, spacious, and great kitchen.

Debbie treated our house as if it was her own. She left it in an immaculate condition. We didn't have to do much. We wished that everybody was like that.
We would have her again any time.
It is always such a pleasure staying at this home. The grandkids and great grandkids always enjoy visiting me here, fishing and enjoying all the water equipment provided. The little boat is perfect for young children as it cannot tip. Perfect for families or adults who love to enjoy the water.

Kathleen is such a lovely person. We always love to accommodate her and her grandchildren to stay at our place. She allowed us to post a picture of them on the boat. You could see the fun they are having. A momento I would have wanted of our kids.
Please come back again with the grand kids!
We are so very thankful to have been able to utilize this property. We absolutely loved hanging out on the dock and the back porch. The kayaks, row boat, paddle boards were the best time ever (really great feature). The neighborhood was amazing we loved the area/property. Views were great. We really hope to return in the future.
Nice spot on this beautiful small lake! The dock looks to be ready for replacement but it held up for us. The dock is sunny all day as you will lose sun on the beach earlier as the mountains are close by. It’s nice and quiet even when the weekenders come. The house is well equipped and the kids enjoyed having the den to watch tv.

Nice lakeside house
Our stay here was very good. Seven adults, adequate room inside, outside and on the dock. Lake was refreshing, not cold. Kitchen was great. Everything you need. Don was very attentive to any emails. Overall, very good!
This was our third visit. It never fails to leave us wanting to come back. We have already booked for next year. The house is wonderful and has everything you need and more. We practically live on the dock and in the water, which is great for swimming. Don and Maribel are the best hosts and bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your stay. Highly recommend!
My husband, son, and 3 grandsons recently spent a few days at this wonderful rental on Cain Lake, and everyone is already wanting to go back! It's location, on this beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, is an easy drive from many WA locations. What a wonderful house, tastefully decorated, and stocked with everything you need to feel like you are home! Our group spent the entire time either on the dock fishing, or kayaking and swimming out in the lake. We couldn't have asked for more, and would go back in a heartbeat!!
The house was a nice place to stay for my employees who were out of state on a construction job. Unfortunately for us, there was a scratch across the glass cook top, which was replaced by insurance. Note to all renters out there... Always get the insurance coverage. The owners were responsive to questions in a timely manner.

MaryLou is very professional as we discussed how to deal with the scratch. Yes, there was an accident but that is an accident, and the mandatory insurance is exactly for that reason (a deposit will be a substitute for paying insurance). She is right, better get the insurance rather than the deposit. As I explained to her, the insurance company is very good to deal with.
It was good dealing with MaryLou. We would not hesitate having her company's personnel at our place again.
Beautiful location right on the lake which was enjoyed by my family and all of the neighboring properties. I have stayed at wayer front locations many tines before but have never seen so many people taking advantage of it. Loved the frepit! The covered porch outback was an awesome place for my family to hang out. The house itself had everyting we needed and the interior decorating was so bright and cheery and modern. Only 1 big screen tv located in the cozy tv room but honestly it was better that way because it encouraged more family time together. Would absolutely stay here again!!

Thank you for your beautiful review, Stacy. Yes, the TV should not compete with family time at the lake and that is why we moved it from the living room to the TV Room (Utility Room as it also houses the laundry?). We were told that in the evenings it is cozy get-together room on the comfy couch.
We welcome you to stay at our place in the future.
If your looking for a quiet getaway this is the place. Our family had a such wonderful time relaxing by the Lake. The house is clean and well stocked. Don and Maribel are great hosts and the house set up very nicely for guests. The house has beautiful lake and forrest views. We enjoyed the wildlife including Eagles plucking fish out of the lake right in front of us. It’s a smaller lake with no motorized boats perfect for paddle boarding or kayaking. There is a little bit road noise at times but hardly noticeable once you settle in. It was nice to stay outside of Bellingham it’s a short drive to town and restaurants, lots of beautiful hikes, plenty to do and explore. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic. Loved every minute of it. Location is amazing - property directly on lakeside with jetty. Accommodation was excellent. Very clean and facilities plentiful. We had everything and more than expected provided. Appreciated all the water toys available to use from paddle boards, kayaks, lilos and rowing boat. There was also floating aids etc for children. Wish we had been able to stay longer. It was an idyllic spot. House was great - lots of provisions and amenities provided plus hosts on point at all times to help. If we lived closer we would be back in a flash. One of the best places we’ve stayed at in USA!

Sally and her company is fabulous. I don't think all British people leave the place they stay in such a clean shape. Well, this company is unique maybe. The group consists in 5 persons. Surely our place has been used, but there is not trace of it. It definitely cut the cleaning time by 75%.
We were so pleased to receive within one minute of her arrival that she felt arriving in heaven. Yes, the mountains are beautiful, the lake is pretty and we like to keep our house in top shape and very clean. We just never received such compliment before.
Thank you, Sally. We were honoured to have you at our place. We want you back in the future. Stay at least one week as this is as fine as the Pacific Northwest can be.
See you again,
Don and Maribel
We were a group of 6 seniors and spent 4 summer nights at this property. We do a trip like this every year, swimming/boating during the day and playing board games at night after dinner. Cain Lake is a great swimming lake.
The kitchen is really well set up for cooking, with every kind of pot and pan I would ever use. Each couple cooked a dinner and we were all impressed with the kitchen. There are LOTS of plates, bowls, silverware, etc, really quite complete. The dining table is Italian and great for games. It has a cool built-in extension to make it larger, big enough to seat 8 people.
Don and Maribel were easy to reach and quick to reply. Check-in was automated and very smooth. Neighbors on both sides were very friendly. Overall, a great experience.
Everything was great over. I would like to point out that the beds and couches are soft. While there was a lot of redundant info via, notes and a manual some things were still unclear like do you compost? where does recycling go? where does trash go? We were unclear if we were able to use the fireplace as there were plastic nick-knacks on it. I have nothing negative to say all positive. Sleeping in the master with the windows open and a fall rain storm outside with the lake and hills faintly illuminated by the moon is pure magic. Highly recommend.

Thank you for the great comments. Lots of info by email that we typically send - almost a duplicate is in a binder on the dining table, but who reads manuals? Exactly. So, to minimize discomfort, we also send the most important ones by email. Thanks for pointing out that info on garbage could be simplified. We will do that. It is meant for the high season where most of the garbage consists in large boxes very little real garbage, and garbage pickup is once a week.
The fireplace was not meant for general use, but a text message would have clarified the issue.
On beds and couches, we go through a replacement of heavily used items every 5 year or so. We replaced the master bed this year. Next year will be the queen-size bed. The TV couch is meant to nicely sink in, as you noted.
We are pleased that your stay was a pleasant one. We welcome you to return and stay at our place again.

Great cottage!
Just back from a 10-day stay. It was completely relaxing. The well cared-for house is more than fully equipped, the pictures are a true reflections of what is there and what is available. The house is made for socializing: great couches for chatting, and excellent TV room, and made for larger families (which we are) with ample and clean sleeping spaces. It's more like a luxury house than a cottage. Once outside the dock is spacious, the water is great, and it was nice to have kayaks and a paddle board available to us. We saw eagles fish, deer on the front lawn, and even caught a few fish from the dock (threw them back in) - what more can you ask for!
The only negative aspect to consider is that the cottage is in direct ear-shot of the fairly busy Alger/Cain Road so there are constant car/truck noises. It's not a quiet retreat but aside from that, everything was excellent and the owner super responsive. We would go back again.

Thanks for the great review.
Sound propagates across water easily. We have made a point of advising guests not to talk too loudly as neighbours across the lake will know what the topic of discussion is, hopefully not politics. And yes, there is short road that connects to Lake Whatcom that is primarily used during the morning and evening rush hour and the traffic noise is definitely better than Lake Samish next to the 24x7 always busy I-5, and Lake Whatcom which is exposed throughout its entire west side. Fortunately the morning rush hour is over by 8 AM and the evening rush lasts from 4:30 PM to 6 PM.
Yes, all the lakes around Bellingham face the same challenge - some fortunately for a short time on weekdays only.
We are pleased you have enjoyed your stay at our place.

Spectacular lakefront house!
We spent three nights at this home in July. Even though the outside weather was in the high 80’s the house was never uncomfortably warm. There are three bedrooms that were more than adequate for six adults. The bathrooms were well stocked with towels and shower supplies. Everything worked well and was easy to operate. The kitchen was stocked with anything and everything you could possibly need with full instructions on how to operate everything. The refrigerator was very large with a pull out drawer for drinks and a huge freezer drawer. It also had an ice maker and a water dispenser on the door, we never ran out of ice.
The outside deck was large and covered with plenty of seating. There was also extra chairs to take down to the fantastic dock. The lake was absolutely beautiful! I fished both mornings and caught a limit of rainbow trout in under two hours both days. The garage was full of floatation devices to enjoy the afternoons on the lake. The water was clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed the fire pit. Although there was a burn ban it does not apply to lake front fire pits so we could have a fire both nights. We purchased wood from the home owner for a reasonable price.
I would certainly recommend this place for a large family or a group of friends. We will certainly be back.

Perfect get-away!!
Our family of seven was looking for a quiet get-a-way for the last weekend we would be together before one of our daughters and son-in-law moved to Peru. From the moment we walked in the front door and saw the lake, kayaks and stand up paddle board, we knew we had found the perfect place in Don and Maribel’s home on the lake!
We split our time between the lake and the kitchen. We all love to cook and the gourmet kitchen had everything we needed and all very well organized. It was a joy to prepare meals together.
The lake was amazing - warm and calm with no motorized boats. Many people were fishing. We were happy swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.
The neighbors are very friendly! Our son-in-law was kayaking one afternoon and was invited to the neighbor’s home that evening for an evening of live Blue Grass music. Unfortunately we had other plans. My husband enjoyed a nice chat with another neighbor and learned about the lake and it’s history.
Communication with Maribel and Don was seamless. They responded quickly to our questions. They also provide very detailed information about their home and it’s systems. A bonus was meeting them as we were leaving on Monday morning and hearing about their home and it’s beautiful renovation.
We would definitely enjoy another trip to Cain Lake and highly recommend this home to others!

Thank you for sharing your great experience.
The open kitchen is our pride and we have put in a lot of effort to make it modern, effective and beautiful space.
The lake is a natural beauty that has attracted avid swimmers who could swim across with fear of being "run over" by a speed boats as you could only putter along with your fishing boats.
We appreciate Deborah and her company at our place. They kept the place nice and tidy. We are pleased we came just in time before they depart to have a little talk with them. It was a wonderful experience talking to her daughter and husband, the newlyweds, before the start of their life in Peru, most likely coming back to the beautiful Northwest as they stated. We enjoyed our conversation - we wished they could stay longer.
We look forward to having them come again.
Our family of five had a relaxing time at the lake house. The location was great. We enjoyed using the boat and paddle boards while taking in the wonderful fall views.
The place is as described on the web. Nice waterfront home with view to the lake. We enjoyed the kayaking and paddle boards. Even my 7 yrs old can managed paddle boards there. Kitchen is well equipped. We had a wonderful vacation there.

About the host
Hosted by Maribel and Don
We love the outdoors, having lived in big cities most of our lives. Cain Lake is the closest thing to nature one could get within driving distance from the large cities.
Why they chose this property
This property offers ample green space, large trees, birds and a magnificent lake with rainbow trout fish, and safe warm swimming water in the summer. The neighbours are all friendly.
What makes this property unique
Since we love doing renovation and this house is structurally sound, it offers creative thinking in how to enhance it, exploring the beautiful mountain views, especially since it is just a few steps away from to the lake. From the outside the house therefore looks, well, average, but from the inside it is super modern. It is an ongoing renovation project. Update: newly planted row of Japanese Maple trees added.
