A magical place to escape

A few hiccups in the beginning but Renee took care of everything! The photos do not do this place justice. It’s absolutely amazing and perfect for families with older children and groups getting together for special occasions. Epic kitchen and close to a winery and brewery! Small towns to visit near by to explore.

This place was amazing. Renee and the property management were very responsive. Location was perfect for us. We hit the breweries, distilleries and wineries nearby. Loved the pool table and small den, and kitchen and large dining room were just perfect for our family and our dog. Got over to the Appalachian Trail for a hike and headed out to Harper’s Ferry, Middleburg and Berryville for some sightseeing, shopping and dining. It’s a historic old house, so there are things here and there they didn’t quite work. But that’s to be expected. If you want a brand new place, don’t stay here. It in no way diminished the fabulous time we had.

2/10 Terrible

Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy

This was a terrible experience!

Everything about this listing was a lie! There was no outside lighting or any lights on the property as I entered after dark.Trash bags on the side of the house were open with what appeared to be bloody rags. The weeds were overgrown, debris on the steps that I had to walk down to get to the lockbox. It resembled something from a horror movie.Almost like it was staged. A shovel in the ground near the door, men’s shoes sticking out from a tree and zero communication with the host upon trying to find the key to enter the property. I was basically left with nowhere to stay!I would not recommend staying at this unit or anywhere that this host has to offer!

Response from VrboOwner on 30 June 2025
I wanted to take a moment to respectfully address the concerns you shared in your recent review, as the information provided does not accurately reflect what occurred. There was consistent communication with you in the days leading up to your arrival, primarily via text message. I even advised you in advance that if you encountered any issues upon arrival, you were welcome to call or text me directly, as the VRBO messaging app sometimes delays notifications. This was to ensure you had immediate support if needed. On the evening of your arrival, you sent a message through the app around 8:00 PM, stating that you did not see the lockbox and there were no lights. I responded approximately an hour later, as soon as the message came through. However, you never followed up by phone or text, nor did you attempt to reach me through the faster contact methods I had provided. Instead, you chose to leave the property and file a complaint with VRBO. When VRBO asked for photos of your location, none were provided from your end. Unfortunately, had you sent even one image or called me directly, it would have become immediately clear that you were not at the correct property. There are active lights surrounding the home, the grounds are maintained, and there were no trash bags or overgrowth. What you described matched a neighbor's property further down the road — not the one you booked. I later provided VRBO with photos clearly showing the lockbox positioned directly on the front door, easily visible and accessible. Again, had you been at the correct location, it would have been apparent. I’m truly sorry that your experience turned out the way it did. However, clear and timely communication is key, and I made every effort to remain accessible to ensure a smooth check-in. I genuinely wish you had reached out when you arrived — we could have quickly resolved the confusion.
